Argument on your deletion about Puti Meditation College edit

Justin,

I'm new to Wiki editing. But I'm a general kin reader about this site. I'm working in a high tech company and looking for technical advices from this site a lot. I think people like you do make this site clean and free out of vandalism. But in the case of Puti Meditation College, I think the case is not vandalism. The College is an official Non-profit organization in Canada for more than 2 years. People from different countries come to the college to learn Zen meditation methodology and there are tons of people who benifit from it. Myself is one. The Master is certified in China and also has written several books in Chinese. He founded a style of Dharma teaching that is grounded in modern reality and advocates the precepts of compassionate benevolence and natural harmony in Buddhist philosophy. He places greatest emphasis on respecting all life, protecting the environment, establishing mutualistic human coexistence.

If you feel you need to check more, please visit www.puti.ca If you'd like to know more about the college, you can call the college staff at ***-***-****, they will more than happy to provide you any documents or certificates that you may like to check.

Comment on your deletions edit

Hey Justin - I saw your message; thanks for your input. I am in the process of writing an article [or section to be added to the HIV & AIDS articles] on older adults living with HIV. And to the point about external links. I do not own or maintain the website at ACRIA.

Andrew

Justin,

I posted some links in the HIV article that you removed yesterday. The reason the links were added, and re-added today, is that ACRIA is one of the few resources for HIV/AIDS research on older adults. It's a little-known fact that nearly 1 in 4 people living with HIV are over age 50, and little is being done to address this growing and aging population. ACRIA is a 501(c)3 agency that is dedicated to conducting bias-free research, health literacy education and advocacy for people living with HIV. I agree there shouldn't be laundry lists of links, but you should also consider that accessing information that is lacking in wikipedia is the whole purpose of the project.

Andrew

regarding psych drugs being over-prescribed, that is not just your POV. It should be easy to find that the US is by far #1 in this category, particularly the prescription of ritalin to the youth. Of course, drug advertising is way out of control here. (pov) homebuilding

Thanks for the suggestion! I made the rib eye pic a thumb, so now its much smaller.

Hey Justin edit

Did you create JoeBot? That's pretty cool.

Yep!

I think the high standard of living we enjoy is thanks to intellectual property rights. Without those rights, there would have been little incentive for Edison to invent the electric light, or for Intel to develop faster CPUs, or for Merck to develop better drugs.

I think Edison would have invented the electric light wether or not he could have made money from it. I'm not sure I could say the same for the better CPU or drugs, but I bet both were first created out of curiousity and altruism. _Intrinsic_ motivation is what drives the worlds best and brightest I'd say. {{beefbox}} edit

Joe, beefbox looks great -- I'll add it when I come across articles that don't have it yet. Very cool. I'm afraid I don't know a lot about template programming... how could it be extended to work with non-steak cuts like standing rib roast? Is that possible or do we just use {{Cuts of beef}} for those? Also, in a template like that one with a set of alternative links describing a class of objects, how do you designate the one that applies to the present article (and is thus not a clickable link)? Cheers, --MCB 04:53, 30 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

You know, i didn't know a stitch about templates or infoboxes either. If your interested in it, just tinker around in a sandbox with it or any other one, pretty much how i made these two. {{Cuts of beef}} was actually {{LedZeppelin}} just messed around with. We could possibly use beefbox changed a bit, with i dunno, a n/a in the steak cuts field. I originally made {{Cuts of beef}}, then was like, oh shit, what about all the steaks? Can't list a billion of em in the template...so i made the beefbox infobox. We could use both but i think it'd be too cluttered. start seeing what looks good, be bold. i think beefbox could look better in terms of style and color and such, i just wanted to put it out there as a start. plus i always thought that image of the cow was insanely useful to see.
to make the link 'not clickable', if i've got your idea right, you just make a wikilink around it and it has to be the present article. For instance, User:JoeSmack won't be bolded out cause its not the current page, but User_talk:JoeSmack will. Alternatively, if you don't want to deal with that, you can always just bold a nonwiki linked word with ''' these ''' ---> these. JoeSmack Talk 19:52, 31 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Tree for WP:1.0 edit

Yes, I think there are probably only a couple of people who know all the obscure pages on this project! I'll try to come up with something over this weekend. The problem is that any tree will probably be obsolete by the time it's finished...! Cheers, Walkerma 18:34, 8 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hello again. I've tried to come up with something, but I've found that it is really quite hard to do. If I could sit down for a whole day by myself I could probably come up with something good, but unfortunately I just can't do that right now, as I am very busy at work. We also only have 2-3 weeks left of article reviews for Wikipedia 0.5 before we start compiling for the publisher, so I'm pretty busy with that too. Probably the best I can offer for now is to explain one part of the project in more detail. So - what part interests you?
  1. Core topics: Trying to improve the main articles in Wikipedia.
  2. Work via WikiProjects: Networking with the WikiProjects to find the best/most important articles in each subject area, also promoting use of the bot worklists.
  3. Torrent project:Distributing releases via the BitTorrent network
  4. Specific releases of (parts of) Wikipedia, such as the SOS CD or Version 0.5.

Sorry I can't come up with something clearer! Walkerma 03:02, 18 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

1a edit

Thanks for your kind words, Justin. I wonder whether it's already dauntingly long, and should be split, perhaps by moving the descriptive introit in the main article on, say, "Redundancy", to the introduction of the daughter article "Exercises in redundancy". Concerning your Toolbox edit

I see that you have a number of tags in your toolbox. Thats cool, but may I suggest editing them in a way so the categories are not applied to the userpage. An example is by adding the {{wikify}} tag, your page clogs up category pages, like Category:Articles that need to be wikified. A suggestion is making a wikilink to the template, like so: {{wikify}}. If you could correct this, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. -- Reaper X 18:51, 10 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

-ize and -ise edit

Justin, Sorry, I hadn't noticed until now your change of "optimise" to "optimize" in my 1a article. 'Fraid it had to go back to s; that's AusEng, and the norm for most English speakers outside North America nowadays.

Unlike some American spelling innovations, which were sensible, the s is much easier: there are only a few exceptions, whereas you have to learn lots. Tony 14:54, 13 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Descent (computer game) edit

Hello, JoeSmack. Thanks for removing that clutter of websites from the abovementioned article. However, I would like to point out one small error on your part — you removed DescentBB.com as well. You may want to view the Official Descent³ Website to see what the D3 Team have to say about the two DescentBBs. In my opinion, however, DescentBB.com is not a fansite.

I have made a minor edit to your edit of the article on 15 September 2006 Friday at 0131hrs SGT by re-adding DescentBB.com back into the External Links. Should you think that DescentBB.com is a fansite even after viewing Descent3.com, feel free to revert my change. I hope you'll do the right thing. -- A. Exeunt 08:00, 15 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

mycomorph box edit

Hello, You left a comment at Template talk:Mycomorphbox that it doesn't render right in your browser. Nor does it in mine, and I was the main creator. My question is, does it render right in an article in which it is transcluded, such as amanita muscaria? That is my main concern. If you know how to make it prettier in the template page, but preserve its functionality, that would be great! Debivort 22:16, 28 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

All That edit

You removed the comments about how viewers don't like the later seasons (i.e. Season 7 onward) when compared to those previously. This is not a very narrow point-of-view that maybe myself or a couple of others hold. If you've ever been a loyal fan of the show, you can see on various sites (e.g. Jump the Shark, TV.com, IMDb, petitions, ToonZone, etc.) that they all feel this way. I seriously doubt that you're a real expert on All That. TMC1982 2 October 2006 (UTC)

Thats the beauty of wikipedia, the encyclopedia anyone can edit: you don't have to be a 'loyal fan' or an 'expert' in the field. All in all it sounds pretty POV to me, and you might say that BECAUSE im not a loyal fan i can make a NPOV assessment on the issue. JoeSmack Talk(p-review!) 16:59, 2 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

My point is to go look (and closely examine) in the external links section to see what everybody else has said while reviewing the show before concluding your opinion. TMC1982 2 October 2006 (UTC)

Since you said I could ask questions to you, there they go:

  • How do I erase a page created by accident (the page Gausss Cordeiro is a typo)? (I suppose only a admin or something can do that, where can I ask one)
  • Do you where I can find guidelines and templates on biographies?

Thanks in advance. See ya!

Actually, the Adoption-project guidelines describe that you should change the notice on the adoptees page. Space saving edits edit

Hey Joe, I was wondering if you could tell me what your recent edits were supposed to do - I'm guessing that they were to create two-columned references, which is a fine idea. Unfortunately, I'm not seeing any substantive difference in the page display after the edit. I don't know if that's because your code is incorrect or because my browser (Safari 2.0.4) is rendering it incorrectly, but I thought I'd let you know so that the situation can be remedied or at least identified. Thanks! Girolamo Savonarola 19:38, 10 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

New edits related to HIV edit

Justin, I am the person who is making the edits related to genetic diversity in the article on HIV. I thought that the discussion for potential reasons why HIV undergoes such diversification was not really presented, so now it is in there (and I might add completely accurate).

But there are many mysteries about how AIDS develops in its human and simian models. The ability of the natural hosts of SIV (AGMs and SMs) to completely accommodate this virus without pathogenesis is absolutely incredible. In addition, even today there is NOT a very good explanation for how HIV defeats the immune system. Every model seems to crash and burn following close examination. But, believe it or not, there is a model for AIDS pathogenesis that can explain all of these observations that is known as eu-FEDS. This model was first proposed in 1997 [1]. A potential explanation for the ability of SIV to evoke tolerance in its natural hosts was reported later that year [2].

Getting evidence for this model has been very tough, however. In 1997, virtually all NIH funding was being directed to the development of vaccines for HIV. In addition, the eu-FEDS model involves a specific type of post-translational modification known as glycosylation, not protein or DNA data. Sequencing oligosaccharides has only recently become routine using ultrasensitive mass spectrometric approaches [3]. Then there is the problem of challenging existing paradigms for AIDS pathogenesis. So the eu-FEDS model languished for years due to problems involving funding, technology, and competition between competing models. Today, funding is more balanced between vaccine development and pathogenesis studies, and most of the models for the development of AIDS that were viable in 1997 have been laid to waste.

But things are finally changing for the eu-FEDS model. Though it may be hard to believe, there is now evidence for a molecular linkage between AIDS and ovarian cancer [4] [5] Though today this idea seems far fetched, the concept that AIDS and cancer could be linked pathological states was initially proposed in a grand rounds presentation given at the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in 1983. Sadly, people suffering from AIDS often clash with cancer victims and their families over the allocation of National Institutes of Health (NIH) funding for these disease states. However, once it is unambiguously established that these pathological conditions are in fact linked, perhaps this friction will dissipate in the future. BTW, I am currently NIH funded to go after this linkage between AIDS and ovarian cancer.

In summary, thanks for letting the edits stay in, and be ready for more significant news about the eu-FEDS model for AIDS pathogenesis. The more is known about cause, the better the chance that someone will figure out how to address these terrible diseases. clarkgf
