Oh, and one more comment (and I hate to cite rules and regulations, but they are necessary for a coherent content, and if noone told you, how could you possibly learn about it): according to the naming conventions, titles should not be included in the page name of a biography. So Shaykh Abdalqadir as-Sufi should really be listed under Abdalqadir as-Sufi al-Murabit. As I cannot restore this on my own, I'll have to ask someone with more authority to set things straight, and that may take a while. Please continue your work in the mean time. Errabee 14:31, 6 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

I have already moved it to Abdalqadir as-Sufi, which is indeed the correct name. Errabee 06:49, 10 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
Those redirects will stay in place as long as nobody changes them (and it isn't policy to change them), so anyone searching for Shaykh Abdalqadir as-Sufi will still get to the article. Uniformity across wikis is not the most important subject, uniformity within one wiki is. So while on the English wikipedia it is policy to not include titles, on other wikis it may be policy to include them; that really depends on the community from that wiki.
The main course to improve a rating is to expand the article conform some simple steps: See Wikipedia:WikiProject Biography#WikiProject Biography 11 easy steps to producing at least a B article. After that, you can apply for Good Article Status if you feel your article has been expanded enough to satisfy the Good Article criteria. A peer review might get you some additional comments on how to improve to A-status, and finally a Featured Article review process might get your article elevated to FA status. And I speak just enough Afrikaans to understand what you said without the translation :) Errabee 09:02, 10 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
That is correct. Errabee 12:42, 10 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
But as an afterthought, we do provide links to articles in another wiki. I have searched the Italian wiki, and linked the English article to it. Look for it in the left column. This is the closest wiki can come to cross-language conformity. Errabee 13:00, 10 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Abdalqadir as-Sufi edit

Sorry about the Sidi/Shaykh, when I looked at Muhammad ibn al-Habib I saw that Sidi was the first title and assumed it correct.

Now I have a question about the proper link. In the first line of Abdalqadir as-Sufi it says "...is a Shaykh of Tarbiyah (Instruction), ..." and the link is to Shaykh of Sufism. Later on it says "...as a student of Shaykh Muhammad ibn al-Habib [2],..." where the link "Shaykh" is a redirect to Sheikh. Now based on what I read in "Shaykh of Sufism" and "Sheikh" it would seem to me that whenever the title "Shaykh" is used in the "Abdalqadir as-Sufi" article it means "of Sufism".

As to improvement. First off, I reeally don't edit biographies much and know nothing about Abdalqadir as-Sufi and was just tracking vandalism when I came across the article. It appears to me to have improved quite a lot since it was tagged as "start class". This is how it looked then and this is a comparison of then and now. I would take a look at Wikipedia:WikiProject Biography/Assessment#Quality scale as that will give you some ideas and then you could re-list it at Wikipedia:WikiProject Biography/Assessment#Requesting an assessment. You might want to look at Wikipedia:WikiProject Biography/Members and see if one of the members could give you some tips.

Having said that here are some other ideas. The article is not bad in that it does not over praise him but it does need a criticism section. If you look at Talk:Abdalqadir as-Sufi there are some issues that were raised and they need to be addressed. One thing that is common to all articles, biographies or not, is that they tend to be written by people who know something about it. This is fine, except that we tend to forget others don't have our level of knowledge and may not understand what seems obvious. An example of this is in articles about airports, where I edit a lot, which can be filled with jargon and acronyms, NDB, VOR, DME, etc. Another example is here. It took me some digging to find out that "Masjid" is explained in Mosque but that needs to be balanced against making the intro too long. I changed it a bit so that it's now masjid but at the same time I also changed Tasawwuf to Sufism (Tasawwuf). With the mosque article it's clear what masjid means in the first line but with the Tasawwuf link it isn't clear at all. Finally, if you can try and look at the article in different browsers. In Firefox it looks fine but in IE the addition of the template causes a lot of whitespace at the top so I moved it down. Hope this helps. Looks like you've done a lot of good work on the article already. Oh, yes, why is he a Dr.? It's in the first line but there is no mention of it in the article. Cheers. Unspecified source for Image:Al-Alawi.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Al-Alawi.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the GFDL-self tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as article name or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Duplicate images uploaded edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Shaykh with dinar.jpg. A machine-controlled robot account noticed that you also uploaded the same image under the name Image:Shaykh wih dinar.jpg. The copy called Image:Shaykh wih dinar.jpg has been marked for speedy deletion since it is redundant. If this sounds okay to you, there is no need for you to take any action.

This is an automated message- you have not upset or annoyed anyone, and you do not need to respond. In the future, you may save yourself some confusion if you supply a meaningful file name and refer to 'my contributions' to remind yourself exactly which name you chose (file names are case sensitive, including the extension) so that you won't lose track of your uploads. For tips on good file naming, see Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions about this notice, or feel that the deletion is inappropriate, please contact User:Staecker, who operates the robot account. File permission problem with File:DarqawiIsnad.gif edit

Thanks for uploading File:DarqawiIsnad.gif. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

 • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
 • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add OTRS pending to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as non-free fair use or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.
