Hi, I noticed you've been adding several new articles. You probably should take a look at Wikipedia:Manual of style to familiarize yourself with a few things that are standard across articles. Island name

I notice that recently you edited the Fernão do Pó article, and chose to put back some material that I had removed. I guess this was inappropriate on my part; I was thinking that, in such a small article about this person, detailed information about the name of an island he discovered should be put elsewhere.

Putting that aside, however, I can't find the name Flôr Formosa as the original name of the island (Bioko) in any of the references I have consulted; the original name they give is simply Formosa. Could you share the name of the reference work that gives Flôr Formosa? Thanks, S. Neuman 03:55, 29 August 2005 (UTC)

I believe you're right about the name. Formosa (Beautiful) seems to be the first name of the island and not Flôr Formosa (Beautiful Flower). It was not me who added that info in the first place. I just put the names back because I think Fernão do Pó is strictly connected with the names. Formosa was the name chosen by him and then the island was named Fernão do Pó after him. The only reference I can find is the Wikipedia article Equatorial Guinea but in a google search in Portuguese one can only find Formosa. I'm going to change both Fernão do Pó and Equatorial Guinea. Vasco da Gama

Thanks for head's-up about this article. But if I manage get any time to work on the da Gama's it will be creating an article about one of his more famous sons -- Christopher da Gama, who led the Portuguese Expeditionary force that freed Ethiopia from Ahmad Gragn (circa 1541-1543). Princesses of Brazil

Please explain how two princesses born in the Brazilian Imperial Family and who did not marry into the Portuguese royals are part of the Portuguese royalty. Don't let the family names deceive you. The Brazilian and the Portuguese Royal/Imperial families are not one and the same, having been separated since the abdication of Peter I — even though he reigned briefly as Peter IV of Portugal, this has no effect on the Brazilian Imperial family. No members of the Brazilian Imperial Family are considered to be "also" members of the Portuguese royals, unless they married into it (notable exception to Maria II da Glória, but that is a completely odd case), being that the House of Bragança was "split in two" by his abdication and the creation of the Brazilian Imperial Family, separate from the Portuguese House of Bragança reigning in Portugal (and Peter I's children, with the exception of Maria II da Glória, are part of the Brazilian royals, not the Portuguese, AFAIK). If you do not provide a valid reason, I will re-revert the articles again.
Incidentally, please try to use edit summaries and talk pages to justify your reasons. It makes everybody else's lives much easier, and it prevents your edits from being mistaken for vandalism on occasion. Thanks, Redux 23:31, 25 November 2005 (UTC)

I think I can explain this situation with an example. For instance, Januária, Princess Imperial of Brazil was born into the Portuguese Royal family on March 11, 1822, so she belonged to the Portuguese family until September 7 of the same year, when her father Portuguese prince Peter declared the independence of Brazil. When he did so a new branch of the Braganza family was created, the Imperial Family of Brazil. When Peter I of Brazil inherited the throne of Portugal in 1926, his children became automatically members of the Portuguese Royal Family until his abdication. That's the reason for my edits. That's what I was thinking about yesterday. Although Francisca, having been born in 1824, would not fit in this example. I believe the key situation is the fact that Peter I only abdicated formally to the Throne of Portugal following his father's death, in 1826 (thus when both had already been born). If we are to take into account the establishment of the Brazilian Imperial Family in 1822, however, then Francisca, born in 1824 (two years later), would never have been a member of the Portuguese Royal Family. If Peter's abdication is to be taken into account, then we might say that both were once part of the Portuguese royals. I still wonder if it would be correct to use boards and specific stubs for the Portuguese Royal Family in their articles, being that their "main" affiliation was, undoubtedly, to the Brazilian Imperial Family (at least until they married into the French and Italian royals). I think we could stick to the Portuguese and Brazilian Royal Families together. After all although they were undoubtly members of the Brazilian Royal Family they were Princesses of Portugal also. List of Prime Ministers of Portugal

Well, i'm not an expert in that, but i noticed some facts to say that "it may not be accurate".

• In the portuguese wikipedia an anonymous has changed the info of the period "1750 - 1785" with this edit.
• As you can see here (in portuguese) Aires de Sá e Melo and Luís da Cunha Manuel had the occupation of "Secretário de Estado dos Negócios da Guerra" (Secretary of State of the subject of the war, similar to the actual U.S. Secretary of defence) in the periods said as they were Prime Ministers (Secretário de Estado, Secretary of State, in that time, as said in the PT:WP). They could be in both charges, but can it be?

Said so what is true? This has to be investigated. (You can talk to me in portuguese, in the PT:WP, seeing the interwikis of my user page, but i used english here, 'cause we're in the EN:WP). --Bigs slb 17:43, 14 January 2006 (UTC)
