Galleries edit

Hi JM, recently I've noticed that you've uploaded many of your excellent bird shots into 'Galleries' on numerous bird-articles, Currently there seems to be a movement to 'eradicate' these 'Galleries' from WP articles....something that I'm not really in favour of. See [1], basically most admins would like them all moved but I'm arguing that they can be useful if they display variations in plumages of races, sexes or maturity of bird-species. I think it might prove useful if you limited the amount that you upload to 2 or 3 per Gallery to show this (....rather than 10 to 20!) , otherwise we risk losing the concept completely. Are you aware of the 'Handbook of Birds of the World' site? [[2]] If you want to display more of your images I'm sure they would be very grateful if you uploaded them on their site, and they display much larger (....just a thought). Aviceda talk 07:29, 11 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Thanks, Aviceda. Don't have any more time to upload at [[3]]. If anybody can on my behalf, he is most welcome.

Hi JM, please note that the 'Gallery' issue is still on-going, be sure to only add relevant material or there is a good-chance of widespread 'deletions'. Aviceda talk 08:19, 25 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Linking to wiki commons category under External links edit

Hello, Was just wondering if it is OK to link to Wiki commons categories under External links section. It is probably better to put these images in a gallery, as this section is supposed to be for external www links. See WP:LINKS. Just a thought when I saw the links you put in the Narsapur article. prashanthns (talk) 07:59, 6 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hi,Prasanth ji, I think this is very much relevant & needs to be there so that everybody knows about the Flora & Fauna of the Narsapur forest mentioned in the body of Wikipedia Article. Images are already in the different Galleries related to the Sc. names of the Birds/ Butterflies/ Plants etc. Jmgarg1 (talk) 08:19, 6 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Image arrangement edit

Gargji, just a quick doubt ? Do you use IE as the browser ? Asking since the picture arrangements seem to make the pages look quite scuttled on FireFox. Firefox seems to do best if images are thumbed within sufficiently large text paragraphs and it seems like the first paragraph and the reference section are best avoided for image placement. Shyamal (talk) 09:12, 7 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

Yeah, Shyamal ji. Can you give me one such link which I can try in both the browsers?Jmgarg1 (talk) 12:11, 7 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

Try http://browsershots.org/ select Firefox, Safari and IE on windows and unix enter http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pale-billed_Flowerpecker and hopefully after a wait it should show the problematic overlap. Shyamal (talk) 09:38, 8 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

Thanks, Shyamal ji. I checked it in Firefox & saw the over-lapping. I will try to keep these things in mind in future. However, even after removing the picture from there, I found the "[Edit] [Edit] [Edit] [Edit]" overlapping with the refrences on the provided link in Firefox. I think this is a technical problem, which should be sorted out by Wikipedia. Jmgarg1 (talk) 10:22, 8 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

I further experimented with the changes on the provided link. I think putting pictures or templates in 1st paragraph is a problem area. I will try to avoid it in future. However, being a technical problem, this should be sorted out by Wikipedia.Jmgarg1 (talk) 10:47, 8 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

Yes, there are incompatibilities, hopefully someone will fix it sometime. Anyway, the best solution at the moment seems to be to find more textual content. The image problems apart, the commons template and wikispecies template seems to be best left at the end of the page. Shyamal (talk) 11:07, 8 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

Mongoose problem edit

It seems like your photos on Small Asian Mongoose need to be moved to Indian Gray Mongoose. The key difference apart from size is the dark feet in edwardsi while javanicus/auropunctatus has light feet - see http://www.flickr.com/photos/7880802@N07/2412170363 Is it possible to get some confirmation from local experts ? Shyamal (talk) 14:54, 12 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

Thanks, Shyamal ji. I have posted these on INP & InvertebrateIndia. Let us see if I get some response. Will let you know & make corrections, if any after confirmation.Jmgarg1 (talk) 05:15, 13 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

Thanks, Shyamal ji. I got more confirmation & made necessary changes in the description of the images & on the related pages. Jmgarg1 (talk) 03:29, 16 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of Indira Park, Hyderabad edit

A tag has been placed on Indira Park, Hyderabad requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be a blatant copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words.

If the external website belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. placement of sister project links edit

Hi, I see that you and I have been doing a bit of edit warring over the placement of links to wikispecies and commons in plant articles. I maintain, citing WP:SISTER, that they should normally go in the External links section (perhaps occasionally some directly related section; but rarely if ever See also or References). Justicia is an example (edits of 6 to 11 November) but something similar has been happening on many pages. Kingdon (talk) 02:28, 14 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

Thanks. Jmgarg1 (talk) 12:17, 16 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

This is mainly for proper utilization of space. Jmgarg1 (talk) 12:19, 16 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

Ah, OK. Much of the time, there is enough text that the floating boxes work fine (or one can add a {{clear}}). And of course {{commonscat-inline}} and friends variants bypass that set of problems. I'll try to keep an eye on where the boxes end up laying out (in a couple of different page widths), although I do still maintain that External links is the most logical place in terms of not sowing confusion about External links vs. References in terms of policies like WP:V. Reviewer granted edit

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, is currently undergoing a two-month trial scheduled to end 15 August 2010.

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under pending changes. Pending changes is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial. The list of articles with pending changes awaiting review is located at Special:OldReviewedPages.

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.

If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. Courcelles (talk) 05:46, 20 June 2010 (UTC)Reply
