Speedy deletion nomination of Cherokee Casino (Roland) edit

A tag has been placed on Cherokee Casino (Roland) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about an organization or company, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for organizations and companies. You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles - see the Article Wizard.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag - if no such tag exists then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hangon tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. How does X work? edit

{{helpme}} I work for the Oklahoma Tourism Department and I'm trying to ensure that Oklahoma's cities and attractions are appropriately represented on Wikipedia. I came across a list of Oklahoma Casinos already showing up on Wikipedia. But only a handful of the casinos on the list had articles associated with them. They were red links in the list. I clicked on the Cherokee Casino (Roland) which was first on the list. There was a note at the top of the page saying I could help Wikipedia out by creating an article for it. So I tried to oblige. I figured out how to use the Article Wizard (at least I think I came close) and added the information that I had available. Now I'm told that the casino is not notable and the article is tagged for speedy deletion. If there is a list already on Wikipedia but the links don't go to articles, why is it not notable enough to be on Wikipedia? Jkalkman (talk) 01:15, 5 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

All articles on Wikipedia must cite reliable sources to establish its notability and to allow the reader to verify the facts presented. Basically, you have to include lots of secondary sources (like news articles, books, magazines, etc.) to show how the casino is notable and to back up the facts in the article. Also see this page. fetch·comms 01:21, 5 June 2010 (UTC)Reply
You may also find Wikipedia:Starting_an_article to be helpful. I've been working on improving articles on Oklahoma cities and tourism, particularly the List of Oklahoma state parks and some of the National Register of Historic Places articles, as well as adding external links from the Oklahoma Encyclopedia of History and Culture and evaluating what articles related to the Oklahoma WikiProject may need to be created from this list. I'd be happy to help you if you have any questions. You can leave messages and contact me at my talk page Narthring (talkcontribs) 14:49, 5 June 2010 (UTC)Reply
Please note, that as an employee of the Oklahoma Tourism Department, you should be particularly aware of conflict of interest guidelines. While it is appropriate for you to verify that the information about Oklahoma topics is correct, it is not appropriate for you to use Wikipedia to promote Oklahoma tourism. Welcome to Wikipedia edit

Thank you for helping to expand the encyclopedia's coverage. You can request that deleted articles be moved to your userspace for improvements and eventual recreation. From your comments it sounds like these are notable subjects, so they shouldn't have been deleted in the first place, but these things sometimes happen. There are numerous editors willing to help if asked, and you might try posting the articles you want to work on at the Wikipedia:WikiProject Oklahoma discussion page. Once citations to reliable independent sources are added that's usually enough to insure survival. Good luck! Freakshownerd (talk) 02:38, 5 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

Just like Freakshownerd said, there's a really high possibility that these casinos are notable; you simply need to show that they are, since people not very familiar with Oklahoma (such as me; I'm an Ohioan who's only once been to Oklahoma) aren't likely to know that they are. As it is, the article you wrote didn't show that the casino was important (for all I know, Oklahoma has tons of casinos, so simply being a casino isn't enough of a claim of importance), so it qualified for speedy deletion. Since you say that it passes the notability criteria, I'll give you the article back: besides deleting pages, I can also restore them. You can now find what you wrote at User:Jkalkman/Cherokee Casino (Roland), where you can work on it in peace. When you've improved the article and shown how the casino passes the notability criteria, please move it back to the old title of Cherokee Casino (Roland). If you have any more questions, please ask me a question in the same way you just did, and I'll do my best to help you. Nyttend (talk) 02:55, 5 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

Cherokee Casino Roland edit

Hi, I took the liberty of recreating this article for you. You might want to check out Wikipedia:WikiProject Oklahoma and Wikipedia:WikiProject Indigenous peoples of North America for ideas, suggestions, and support with future articles. Happy editing! Cheers, -Uyvsdi (talk) 01:08, 9 June 2010 (UTC)UyvsdiReply

I always use 500nations.com as a source for info about casinos. A range of different secondary sources proves notability, especially newspaper articles. And the entries can't be too glowing :) - since you can't advertise or promote - just document. Photos help - I have a couple of casino signs, but that's it. Oklahoma Casinos edit

No, it should not be changed from what was provided. This is included in List of casinos in the United States which is linked in the infobox at the bottom of the table. This format and the headings all used in all 50 states. If you feel that additional information is needed, add it in the comments column. Vegaswikian (talk) 18:23, 21 June 2010 (UTC)Reply
