External links on Cornwall edit

Hello. Wikipedia isn't a directory of links to sites about Cornwall, that's what Google's for. The link you re-added wasn't an official tourist site. Please read WP:SPAM and WP:EL for information on Wikipedia's policies regarding external links. Regards, --Joowwww (talk) 15:13, 16 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Curious, then, that there are two links to independent sites already on the page. I smell a vested interest here. I posted two links, one to an independent tourist guide for more unbiased (and not necessarily all pro-Cornwall) information, and one to the official website of the tourist board, Visit Cornwall. Both valid links - equally if not more so than the pre-existing links. The tenacious refusal to allow two extremely relevant links is not in line with Wikipedia's policy at all. Perhaps all the links should be removed?

Please do not add inappropriate external links to Wikipedia. Wikipedia is not a collection of links, nor should it be used for advertising or promotion. Inappropriate links include (but are not limited to) links to personal web sites, links to web sites with which you are affiliated, and links that attract visitors to a web site or promote a product. See the external links guideline and spam guideline for further explanations. Since Wikipedia uses nofollow tags, external links do not alter search engine rankings. If you feel the link should be added to the article, please discuss it on the article's talk page rather than re-adding it. Thank you.--Herby talk thyme 15:23, 16 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Thanks, but I'm not actually a new user, I have been contributing to Wikipedia for years, I just never felt the need to create an account! I'm not some spamming moron, have never been treated as one before, and to be treated as such now, in such a high-handed manner, is pretty insulting - and ironically in breach of the very guideline cited above.

Confusion has arisen by my posting of two links, one official, one independent. When I described the two links as "official + independent" clearly this was taken (bizarrely) to mean that the terms weren't mutually exclusive. The links are still no less useful than the two that are left. Let's have no external links on Wikipedia at all, shall we? Pff!

Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, we would like to remind you not to attack other editors, as you did on Talk:Cornwall. Please comment on the contributions and not the contributors. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you. --Joowwww (talk) 17:42, 20 August 2008 (UTC)Reply
