Conflict of interest edit

Mr. Fetzer, it isn't appropriate for you to be editing the information about yourself at 9/11 Truth Movement, because you have a conflict of interest. Moreover, some of your edits seem to violate Wikipedia's neutral point of view policy. Please, if there are factual errors in the article, explain them on the article's talk page so that other editors can verify the information in reliable sources and make the necessary corrections. Thank you. -FisherQueen (Talk) 15:47, 17 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Please do not add commentary or your own personal analysis to Wikipedia articles, as you did to 9/11 Truth Movement. Doing so violates Wikipedia's neutral point of view policy and breaches the formal tone expected in an encyclopedia. If you would like to experiment, use the sandbox. Thank you. -FisherQueen (Talk) 16:14, 17 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

This is a bizarre attitude. You allow false and distroted claims to stand about me and Scholars and I can't correct them because I founded the society? I think you are being quite ridiculous, not to mention grossly unfair. As a professional scholar with 28 books and 150 articles and reviews who has extensive experience as an editor of books and journals, I find your intervention here to be completely unacceptable. Tell me how to appeal this action, because you are perpetrating falsehoods and misrepresentations about the 9/11 truth movement. Having lived through these events, I am confident that I am better positioned to correct a mistaken record than you are to preserve it. Please restore my corrections. Articles like this one only reinforce the impression that WIKIPEDIA is dedicated to propaganda and disinformation. Compare what I wrote with what I have corrected and you will see the difference between truth and fiction. Thanks very much. JimFetzer

Jim, the conflict of interest policy is not a bizarre attitude. It's essential to keep people with their own agendas from whitewashing or spinning Wikipedia. Please don't edit any article about yourself or your organization in a way that violates site policy. To avoid any risk of being blocked from editing, I encourage you to use the article talk pages instead of editing the articles directly. - Jehochman Talk 17:00, 17 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hi Jim, here's a link to our neutral point of view policy. More relevant, here's a link to our conflict of interest policy. These two links should help you out significantly. The short of it, though, is that while we care about accuracy, we go about it by relying on reliable and verifiable sources. In short, information should be published by reputable sources. This allows readers to better evaluate not just the information but its source. Your best approach would be to point out any errors or omissions in the relevant article's talk page. Even better, provide links to reliable sources backing up your recommendations. Other, neutral, editors can review this information and take the appropriate action. What you really don't want to do is just change information willy nilly. As you may know from reading the news, lots of important people and agencies have recently been humiliated by the press who have been very active in highlighting self-serving edits. Following our policies will help you avoid such a fate. Rklawton 18:54, 22 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Welcome! edit

Hello, and Welcome to the Wikipedia, JimFetzer! Thanks for the contributions over on the 9/11 Truth Movement article. Here are a few perfunctory tips to hasten your acculturation into the Wikipedia experience:

And some odds and ends: Cite your sources, Civility, Conflict resolution, How to edit a page, How to write a great article, Pages needing attention, Peer review, Policy Library, Verifiability, Village pump, and Wikiquette; also, you can sign your name on any page by typing four tildes: ~~~~. Best of luck, JimFetzer, and most importantly, have fun! Ombudsman 03:39, 26 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Per our policies regarding conflicts of interest, I would like to suggest that you propose changes to this article on its talk page. Other editors will follow along and review your recommendations. Editing the article directly yourself simply isn't appropriate. Rklawton 16:23, 5 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

I've explained to you our policies and suggested a suitable course of action. If you continue to edit your article, I will block you from editing this encyclopedia. Rklawton 03:05, 7 October 2007 (UTC)Reply
