Erik Karlsson and Huggle

I noticed your revert on the Erik Karlsson. You had reverted an anon's edits as unsourced while they were trying to get the edit right. You obviously did not put much—if any—thought into the revert: you had performed another revert on Yangon Airways 13 seconds later. A simple Google search would have verified that Karlsson's Achilles was cut. Your efforts would be better placed actually helping a new editor by adding a reference, rather than just wiping out their addition. Please use better judgement next time you use Huggle. There seem to be two schools of thought on this. One is help all new editors out and fix their edits. The second, is that it is the editor's responsibility to put the cite in with the edit. I see admins on both sides. I don't mind helping new editors out, and I do sometimes. The editor of Erik Karlsson did seem to figure it out and restored the content with a citation. So, he was helped. I notice that most requests to editors to go back and add a source go unheeded. Many don't seem to get it even after warning templates, personal suggestions, and welcome sections. I don't have an easy way to go back and check that a citation was added as my watchlist is bloated. Removing their edit and letting them know seems to be the most practical and effective way to get them to cite their edits. Perhaps you can suggest improvements to the warning templates? Also, ways to improve "policy compliance" with new editors would be helpful.

There are way more edits then can be even quickly viewed by the people performing vandalism patrol. I am often "preempted" by other patrollers reverting before I do. It seems to be happening less and less. I suspect that vandalism patrollers are quitting. Lately, I am finding more blatant vandalism in my watchlist that would have easily been seen. Wikipedia is turning into a pool of vandalized, unsourced crap. Unfortunately, I am getting burned out on this and likely won't be around much longer. The problem with Huggle is that for a new user, it is indistinguishable from a bot. If Wikipedia automatically reverts your edits, why would someone bother to edit? For this reason, it is important to be careful to not revert in the middle of a series of edits. In terms of helping out all newbies versus making referencing their responsibility, you have to look at each situation separately. If an unreferenced statement is added, I think it should up the patroller to do a quick Google search and if you can quickly verify that statement, then you should fix it. In the Karlsson example, the original edit gave you the date of the incident, the edits were more than an hour after the game ended and close to two hours after the incident, so there was plenty of news reports already from which it was possible to verify. It's much more easier to delete rather than to add.

I'm sorry to hear you're burnt out; maybe try to add content instead of reverting crap? Patrolling recent changes for a year causes burn out. A few years ago, I was actively enforcing fair-use criteria on the scale of tens of thousands of images (deleting mostly). Although I'm relatively new to wiki, one thing I've learned so far is that it's important to assume good faith on all edits, including reverts. I've noticed that in addition to reverting the unsourced content, Jim1138 left a friendly and informative message on the user's talkpage, letting them know that the revert had taken place and encouraging them to redo the info with a source. While doing the citation for newbies might help them, isn't it more helpful in the long run to teach them to cite their own sources, so that less of their content will need to be reverted in the future? I can understand your frustration with the revert, but it seems to me that what Jim1138 did was polite and helpful, in good faith, and not deserving of such a harsh critique. The Huggle warning templates have changed recently and should be quite distinguishable from bot warnings such as ClueBot. I would agree that it would be best to follow your advice. However, I don't think there are anywhere near enough editors willing to do this. One might add to Huggle/Stiki/Twinkle/etc a watch option that would allow one vandal patroller to "claim" an article for awhile so that others don't waste their time watching. I don't seem to have the memory capacity to watch multiple articles and research questionable changes at the same time. I do a considerable amount of research BTW. In my opinion the current scheme of editing is quite broken. Good editors do an excellent job on an article only to see it quickly hacked apart. My Temporary Ban?

Hi Jim1138,

I notice that I have been apparently temporary banned from editing Wikipedia, however I only got my MacBook Pro - which I was alerted on - five weeks ago, and as the message clearly states, my accused edits were made back in late 2012. I did ask my family if anyone had been editing Wikipedia, and my cousin admitted to making the changes, however not on my computer, but the family PC. I am clueless as to why my computer has been banned - not particularly that it bothers me, but it is a humiliation and embarrassment. I have no clue as to why my computer and I have been accused, blamed and charged.

Kings University College

A few months ago you undid an edit to the kings university college edmonton page which took down information about the history of discriminatory LGBT employment practices at the university. This information was once again taken down, and justified on the grounds of wikipedias neutrality policy. The person who made the edit told me to "get off my soapbox." Then, when I undid the edit, claiming that it did not conflict with the neutrality policy (writing this on his talk page), he gave me a warning and threatened to block my access to wikipedia editing. Following this, others tried to return the information to the page, but with little luck. I am worried to make changes because I am afraid the user (Drmies) will block me. I believe you have more clout, status, and experience on wikipedia, and thus I am appealing to you to check into this. FGM

Not entirely clear what you mean here. If you say 'equivalent procedure' then the same parts would be removed on both. If we are comparing a procedure where more is removed on a woman to one where less is removed from a man, they would not be equivalent. There are similarities between removing both glans, true. My objection is with the terminology. The "circum" part means "around", which would accurately describe a hoodectomy but not a clitorectomy. Wikipedia should draw attention to how people try to minimize more extreme forms of FGM by calling it circumcision, not embracing that misnomer. In regard to what I posted in the talk, the Muhammad-promoted procedure I believe is being described is hoodectomy, not labia removal (labiaectomy? not sure if there's an article about this). I concur that the labia do help prevent dirt entering orifices, but I am no clear if the prepuce also serves that function. Unlike men there is no urethral opening in the glans. What is the purpose of Wikipedia?

The Methacton High School page is clearly biased, none of the content comes from a neutral source so I figured I'd help them out a bit. I'm not even sure why they have a wiki page as the school is of no historical or modern significance.

I am only trying to encourage parents to send their students to a private institution so they can all end up successful individuals such as myself.

Honestly, putting a child through the mediocrity of the American public school system should be a crime. I graduated Summa Cum Laude from an Ivy institution with a 4 year M.S in mathematics and the idiot teacher I had freshman year at Methacton didn't think I was capable of handling AB calculus despite my perfect test average in his class - his cited reason "failure to turn in homework which will result in 'struggles' in high level classes". As I cannot possibly comprehend how the low IQ mind functions, he simply cannot comprehend how mine does.

This is Mark Turner again. OK, the links to the university press sites for the books are gone. I am sorry to have caught myself in a whirlpool of confusion. Last night, I made some changes that kept disappearing, and so I remade them as I went, but that seems to have precipitated a cascade I don't follow. Although I was a UNIX sysadmin in early life, I do not know anything about Wikipedia. Someone made a page for me long ago, and from time to time I have edited it to remove factual ambiguity or add links to things like university press sites for the books in the bibliography.The editors seem now to be asking for more external sources. There are a ton of these on my own webpage, but thought it inappropriate to put them on Wikipedia. I just added, using an IP address login, an external source: David Brooks reviewed my work in an article in The Atlantic Monthly, and uses it in his TED talk. I placed both of these on my Wikipedia page, under external links. Is this the right thing to do, or the wrong thing to do? There are people in countries all over the world eager to make such edits. Pretty much anyone who does not have a conflict of interest may edit an article. Essentially, you would place a {{request edit}} above your request. Given that Limoges Box has been around for awhile, you have two choices: wp:proposed deletion - this is easy, but anyone can end the proposal simply by removing the proposal from the page. So, proposed deletions are only good if nobody cares about the article, which seems unlikely in this case. The other is wp:article for deletion - this takes a bit more work. I probably should have said something else. My apology. What I should have said: it does not seem that your information should go under "depictions". I would think information on images should go there. Would there be a better section to put that in? Second: If you put a space at the beginning of the line, it changes the formatting considerably. • The first non-stub version of the article contains one instance of the word "tyre". which links to the article entitled "tire" This is a bunch of silly nonsense I no longer wish to be a part of. For some reason people who live in the UK currently seem to have overestimated themselves and do not realize it's a small country of 60 million people who are not actually the global authorities on the language that is named for them. OF course the uk website uses tyre, it's a website aimed at the uk. Score a victory for the little guys, they have managed to insert a uk spelling into an article about a french company against the rest of the wiki, based on a stub from 2002, and ~2,500 characters of hidden comments in the article to defend it by making it nearly impossible to edit. Believe Tour gross

Hi, the official boxscore figures have been included, which are all correct. After this, on every other tour wiki page, these scores are added up and put in the total box. These scores did not add to the total that was previously there, so I amended it. The change made was accurate, as it was the total of the billboard scores. There is no references needed for the total gross in this case, similarly to almost all other tour wikis. False information on wikipedia.org on ' hyena'.

I noticed that false information is written for the word 'hyena'. Not only its falsely written it should be flagged as 'offensive' and 'unsubstantiated'. no refrence is provided to the claims. if you are a member of wikipedia.org then please take appropiate action for the removal of below: If you are unable or unwilling to remove, let me know your complain platform. Below statements in quotes have no factual base and merely someone's opinion. Wikipedia.org must provide reference for keeping this on the page.

The argument will be that you signed (clicked) away your rights. Perhaps you can convince them that it was in error, uploaded by someone other than you, or you did not understand the licence, or something.
