Marine Corps War College edit

The Marine Corps War College (also referred to as MCWAR), is the senior school of the Marine Corps University, providing Joint Professional Military Education (JPME) to selected United States military officer, civilian government officials, and international military officers.[1] The college is located within the Marine Corps University aboard Marine Corps Base Quantico, Virginia.[2]

History edit

On 1 August, 1990, the 29th Commandant of the Marine Corps, General Alfred M. Gray, Jr., instituted the Art of War Studies program under the Marine Corps Command and Staff College.[3] Staffed by six lieutenant colonels, the ten-month course of study matured into the College and was patterned after other United States Military senior-level service colleges. By 1999, the course evolved to an accredited JPME Phase-I institution, enrolling 16 students from all five branches of the Armed Forces and various government agencies. In 2002, the college received full accreditation from both the United States Department of Education and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to confer Masters Degrees in Strategic Studies. In 2006, the college received JPME Phase-II accreditation. In 2009, the college expanded its student population to include international military officers. Current enrollment is less than 30 students.

Hi, I saw your note on Looper's talk page, and since he's not very active, thought I would weigh in. I'm not sure what you have for references aside from what is on your talk page (I'm guessing this is some kind of draft), but it seems really thin, and as it stands, we would want more third-party sources before creating a standalone article. However, I think you have enough to make a subsection on the Marine Corps University page, since it is a subordinate entity of that command anyway. If you can find more references, I would be happy to help you write it up.

By the way, you probably don't want to keed your current draft on your user talk page. It's better to set up a personal sandbox, since this page is used for communication with others. I'd suggest moving the draft to User:JillClay/Sandbox. Welcome to Wikipedia! bahamut0013wordsdeeds 14:41, 22 December 2010 (UTC)Reply
