Trying again (re: Space Beer redirect)

edit

Hi Silk Tork. I thought I'd try again to get the Space Beer redirect to Sapporro undone. I'm not sure why the page I put up was removed, but am happy to correct whatever deficiencies there were. Thanks in advance for (hopefully) helping out this new Wikipedia user. My talk page is here: User_talk:Jheld6557 Jheld6557 (talk) 13:36, 29 January 2012 (UTC)Jheld6557Reply

Hi. The Space beer article was pulling together different ideas to create a concept of a "space beer". We don't accept original research - see WP:Original research. The article seemed mainly designed to promote a beer brand by a little known Australian brewpub, 4 Pines. We don't accept promotion - see WP:NOTPROMOTION. I suspect from your username that you are one of the people involved in the beer. This is not in itself disallowed, though users do get into trouble when their main purpose is to create an account to promote themselves or a product or company they are related to - see WP:COI. The two sources are press releases. We don't accept self-promotion as an indicator of notability - see WP:ORG. If the beer brand (or the brewpub) develops some notability from reliable sources, an article can be created - though it would more likely be under the beer's brand name. RateBeer has 26 reviews for the brand, which is not significant at the moment, though the "space beer" association may draw more attention over time. Okay, thanks for the response. While I'm not a member of the 4-Pines, I am involved in the space beer project (via science side). The page was written as an attempt to differentiate between beer projects which are related to space (i.e., Coors and Sapporo experiments, and recently Natural Light), but do not meet any scientific requirements of being a space beer. For notability, the Vostok beer has received over 380 articles in over 40-countries world-wide. This include Reuters, Forbes, Space.com, Bloomberg Businessweek, Discover to name a few. It was the #1 sci/tech story twice in Australia (October 2010 and April 2011) and has been featured on several prime time news stations [1][2][3]. I would argue that main stream media impact better meets the criteria for notability than the RateBeer review. In my view, the Space Beer redirect to Sapporo acted as direct promotion for Sapporo.... and that can be a bit misleading. Sapporo proved barley can be grown in space, but you can't drink it in space. Coors proved that you can brew beer in space, but you still can't drink it. Natural Light sent a can of beer into the upper atmosphere (about 1/3rd of the way to space), but you can't drink it in space either. Can you see how disambiguation may be needed here? (talk)
