Heh, Jim... Let me be the first to welcome you!! --jbmurray (talk|contribs) 23:41, 1 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

You are so awesome Jon, Thanks for this. The students will be thrilled they have the ringleader of Murder, Mayhem, and Madness in their article showing them the way. Jgroom (talk) 00:35, 2 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Heh. Meanwhile, I guess you've already noticed that them there wikipedians can be ferocious! --jbmurray (talk|contribs) 01:34, 2 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
Yeah, we tried to set the page up originally at Long poem (not a capital P on poem), but this was being re-directed to Poem, so we had to capitalize both words. I said in passing to the class, but this may be fixed sometime in the future. Looks like the future is now at Wikipedia! I can see how this can quickly become addicting, and congrats on your 6,000th edit a while back, what are you up to now 10,000, or even 20,000? Jgroom (talk) 09:38, 2 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
Indeed, my edit count is going rapidly up... Though it'll come down again once this semester is over. Everything's a little frantic right now. I'm sorry for you guys that the FA-Team are similarly frantic as they're coming together to try to help us realize our over-ambitious goals. But I think they're very pleased with the experience, and I've suggested that afterwards we have some kind of post-mortem in which we all come up with ways we might have done things better. It's been one of those seat-of-your-pants experiments. But I know that one thing I would have done would have been a "Did You Know" feature, as I suggested on your article's talk page: you have to get moving swiftly (given the five-day deadline) but I can imagine it'd be a big boost to see your article on the Wikipedia main page already!
There's plenty to learn. You can in fact edit redirect pages, for instance. And NB look here and you'll see you already have links to your article. You might work on making more. You could also construct a category, as I did for Dictator novel, and "tag" (it's not the word they use, but you'll understand it) appropriate articles.
Meanwhile, the (in)famous Larry Sanger is suggesting I try eduzendium. I replied that I thought I'd rather not. I wonder how he'll respond... Heh. Hope all's well.
Oh and PS, don't forget those edit summaries! --jbmurray (talk|contribs) 10:39, 2 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Worth examining

edit

As you work on Long Poem, it is worth examining similar articles that have made it to Featured article status. Examine in the sense of gleaning the stylistic conventions of Wikipedia. For example,

Jim, right now it looks like it may be just me and you... but let's get going! Others are more likely to pile on if we make a start. What about it? --jbmurray (talkcontribs) 06:03, 27 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Jon, I agree. I'm going to have a good chunk of time to devout to this all week. So I plan on going after the deschooling article with some fervor. Jgroom (talk) 20:49, 1 June 2008 (UTC)Reply
Also Jon, thanks for weighing in on the Edupunk article, I really don't care if it stays or goes away, but seeing your support was cool (for the possibilities of such an idea, not the article). And I didn't actually think it would (or really should) last this long, for that matter I'm tripped out it was even created. Jgroom (talk) 07:33, 2 June 2008 (UTC)Reply
Heh. The mutual friend was of course User:BrLamb. So you were being discussed with fond appreciation out West. --jbmurray (talkcontribs) 07:35, 2 June 2008 (UTC)Reply
Hahah, wish I was there! Casa lamb has some good food, people, and wine --to hack a quote from the The Wild Bunch "I would go willingly, drunk with wine and love!" Jgroom (talk) 07:38, 2 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

list of edupunk technologies

edit

The list of edupunk technologies was removed because of a lack of a source [1], can you or someone else make a post making an analysis of the items on the list and explain for each one why it's edupunk or it's not?

Once you are done with that, it would be nice to make a listing of stuff that is *not* edupunk, see the removal of the sentence "There is also an element of resistance to large and influential education businesses like Blackboard" [2]. Altough the editor does not explain the removal, I assume that it's also for lack of sources. --Enric Naval (talk) 13:35, 6 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Also (and sorry if I'm pushing you too much), you should explain how edupunk relates to the definition that is written on the lead of the Punk_ideologies article. And, of course, looking at the "punk ethics" section and comparing it to the edupunk ethics. --Enric Naval (talk) 13:44, 6 June 2008 (UTC)Reply
Enric, you rule! I have been very interested in exploring Wikipedia in this regard, and you have been an awesome teacher. I want to thank you. I will start dealing with your list now. And like I said, not sure if EDPUNK will keep its article, or if it even deserves one, but it's great to see how the amazing organism that is Wikipedia works. Thanks again! Jgroom (talk) 16:01, 6 June 2008 (UTC)Reply
Even if the article gets finally taken down, some people like Stephen Downes have already mirrored the article on their websites :) And, yeah, it's very interesting how the people manages to collaborate with each other to build better articles, and build upon each other's improvements. --Enric Naval (talk) 00:44, 7 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Glass Bees article

edit

Hi Jgroom. I'm a college instructor and sometimes Wikipedia editor, and as a current assignment for a writing course my students are expanding the Glass Bees article that you started. I'd like to invite you to comment on the article. As someone who knows the novel well, who has used technologies like Wikipedia pedagogically, and as the person who put Glass Bees on wp in the first place, your feedback would be really helpful for those currently working on the article. Would you be willing to give the article a look and give suggestions on where it could use improvement? The first draft should be up later today; we're doing a couple review processes between now, the second draft (due Sunday night), and the final draft (due next Tuesday night). The (somewhat ambitious) goal is for the final draft to be good enough to nominate for GA status. Sindinero (talk) 13:47, 21 April 2011 (UTC)Reply
