Fair use rationale for File:Tetheringiphone.PNG edit

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Tetheringiphone.PNG. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the file description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. — raekyt 13:11, 1 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

Pittsburgh event for Wikipedia's tenth anniversary edit

Hi! Since you're listed as a Wikipedian in Pittsburgh, I wanted to invite you to the Wikipedia Tenth Anniversary celebrations we're having in Pittsburgh on Saturday, January 15. During the daytime, we're going to be having a photo contribution drive where anyone can bring in their digital photos or prints and Wikipedians will teach people how to upload them and add them to articles, and maybe introduction to Wikipedia workshops as well. Then in the evening, we'll have fun at the Carson City Saloon. There will be free Wikipedia t-shirts and other goodies, as well. See the Pittsburgh meetup page for more details. I hope to see you there!--ragesoss (talk) 15:13, 1 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

Cool. It's looking like the current plan is to move the start of the Wikipedia celebration to before the game starts, and then we can stake out an area of the bar and watch the game together.--ragesoss (talk) 03:55, 12 January 2011 (UTC)Reply
Hey! This is just a friendly reminder about the Wikipedia 10th anniversary celebration in Pittsburgh tomorrow. The meeting time has been moved up to 4:00 so that we can gather before the game starts and stake out places, and it may be a good idea to get there even sooner, if you can. Pittsburgh bars are likely to be a little crazy and very crowded. See you there!--ragesoss (talk) 02:15, 15 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

Pittsburgh meetup: Sunday, 13 February edit

File:I-376 (PA) map.png edit

Original SVG map created by 25or6to4 (talk · contribs) on January 1, 2009 and updated on November 18, 2009
File:I-376 (PA) map.png
New PNG uploaded on March 22, 2011

You need to correct this map's information. It is clearly based upon the older map. The SVG map is licensed under either a Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike 3.0 Unported license or GNU Free Documentation License. The CC license, by including the "Share Alike" restriction, requires derivative works to be licensed under the exact same license. The GFDL "is similar to the GNU General Public License, giving readers the rights to copy, redistribute, and modify a work and requires all copies and derivatives to be available under the same license." You have released your derivative under the Creative Commons CC0 1.0 Universal Public Domain Dedication, which is incompatible with the terms of the original file's licenses. The proper course of action should have been to:

  1. Contact 25or6to4 about updating his map
  2. Requesting an updated map at WP:USRD/MTF, the Maps Taskforce of the US Roads Wikiproject.
  3. Nothing. The change you made to the map was to the routing of I-99, which is not the subject of the map. Such detail doesn't impact the key purpose of the map, which is to show the location of I-376 in PA.

Please act on these issues soon. If the licensing issue is not resolved properly, the file will be nominated for deletion as a copyright/licensing violation. Imzadi 1979  03:15, 23 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

Hey I contacted 25or6to4 on updating their original map to show that I-99 goes all the way to I-80. It was a good faith edit. I had to create a PNG version of the map since it wouldn't save as an SVG map. I apologize for any problems. Jgera5 (talk) 03:30, 23 March 2011 (UTC)Reply
It might be a good-faith edit, but you still need to observe the original file's license. Honestly though, the map didn't need to be updated. If this were a map of I-99 for the I-99 article, or a map of all of the Interstates in PA for an article on Interstates in PA, then yes, it needed to be updated. For I-376, the presence or absence of the I-99 extension does not impact the purpose of the map in the I-376 article. Imzadi 1979  03:35, 23 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

GA Interstate 376 edit

I have placed the article on hold so that you can address certain concerns. Thanks, Racepacket (talk) 07:14, 23 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

Please take the comments left by three US Road activists with a big grain of salt. Let's finish the review. Thanks, Racepacket (talk) 22:58, 23 March 2011 (UTC)Reply
How are you? I regret that the review has grown contentious, and would like to work with you to wrap it up. Thanks, Racepacket (talk) 14:50, 4 April 2011 (UTC)Reply
It would help me if I knew your general availablity and time frame for working on the GA review. I know we are all volunteers, but if you could please tell me in general terms whether you foresee having time to work on the changes that I suggested, I could plan my schedule to be available for you. Thanks, Racepacket (talk) 11:41, 7 April 2011 (UTC)Reply
I see that you are editing other articles and taking a breather from I-376, which is understandable. However, I need to know if you want me to continue to hold the GA review open for you. I will do whatever you wish. Thanks, Racepacket (talk) 03:27, 8 April 2011 (UTC)Reply
I see that you are editing other articles and taking a breather from I-376, and I can see how you might need a break. However, if you don't leave a message on the review page within 24 hours, I will assume that you are no longer interested in completing the review. I am going to take a break from road articles and want this review resolved one way or the other. I don't want to leave you hanging unfairly, but I need to wrap this up. Thanks, Racepacket (talk) 09:20, 12 April 2011 (UTC)Reply
I am leaving the highway review business for a while. So you only have three choices, either finish the review tonight, end it as a "not listed", or have me find a substitute reviewer. Your pick. Thanks, Racepacket (talk) 01:49, 13 April 2011 (UTC)Reply

File permission problem with File:I-376 (PA) map.png edit

Thanks for uploading File:I-376 (PA) map.png. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Imzadi 1979  17:15, 30 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

Carnegie Library edit

Dear jgera5! Is it possible to provide me with an article from the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh? So I want to ask you for this article:

  • Sprackland, R. G. 1999. New species of monitor (Squamata: Varanidae) from Indonesia. in: Reptile Hobbyist, 4(6): 20-27.

For any help I will very thank you. It will help for the refinement of Wikipedia articles. Please reply here on this site. Thank you very much indeed, Doc Taxon (talk) 05:08, 20 May 2011 (UTC)Reply

IRC edit

I've noticed you are interested in editing road articles in Pennsylvania. We could use your help in improving stub-class Pennsylvania road articles by adding route descriptions, history, and junction lists. The USRD project and HWY have an Internet Relay Chat channel where you can talk to other editors about roads and get feedback for how to improve articles. You can connect to IRC through here by using your Wikipedia name as your nickname and typing wikipedia-en-roads for the channel. Dough4872 02:05, 16 June 2011 (UTC)Reply

Non-free rationale for File:MaddeniPhone.png edit

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:MaddeniPhone.png. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under non-free content criteria, but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia is acceptable. Please go to the file description page, and edit it to include a non-free rationale.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified the non-free rationale on those pages too. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 19:36, 12 August 2011 (UTC)Reply

Unused highway in New Castle edit

I was trying to find evidence of your submission in the Penn section of Unused highways for New Castle. It looks like it closed a year ago yet there's still no source or evidence that I can find. I hid it for now but let me know if you find something to verfiy it.Bodo920 (talk) 19:25, 17 August 2011 (UTC)Reply

National Archives ExtravaSCANza edit

You are invited to the National Archives ExtravaSCANza, taking place every day next week from January 4–7, Wednesday to Saturday, in College Park, Maryland (Washington, DC metro area). Come help me cap off my stint as Wikipedian in Residence at the National Archives with one last success!

This will be a casual working event in which Wikipedians are getting together to scan interesting documents at the National Archives related to a different theme each day—currently: spaceflight, women's suffrage, Chile, and battleships—for use on Wikipedia/Wikimedia Commons. The event is being held on multiple days, and in the evenings and weekend, so that as many locals and out-of-towners from nearby regions1 as possible can come. Please join us! Dominic·t 01:05, 30 December 2011 (UTC) 1 Wikipedians from DC, Baltimore, Philadelphia, Newark, New York City, and Pittsburgh have been invited.Reply
