James Farley Post Office

Hi JFARLE2 -- I notice you added James Farley Post Office to the List of National Historic Landmarks in New York, consistent with the content of the James Farley Post Office article. However I believe that content was wrong. While it is certainly a "landmark", I don't believe that it is on the list of National Historic Landmarks. I can't find it searching at http://tps.cr.nps.gov/nhl/default.cfm , nor on the official list linked from bottom of List of NHLs in NY article, not under "James Farley" nor under "General Post Office" nor under "United States Post Office". So, I just edited NHL claims out of the James Farley PO article and will remove it from List of NHLs in NY. Thanks for noting the inconsistency--you were right to bring it over into the NY list--and hence for instigating these corrections. Knock on wood, i hope I have this correct now. Cheers. P.S. James A. Farley Building

I've noticed your edits to this page. While I appreciate your enthusiasm, there are a few things I noticed.

1. This edit, containing the edit summary "landmark is officially...James A. Farley Building...rail facility has zero bearing on landmarks OFFICIAL name. Only congress can name a post office. Watch this page for trolls", goes against the documentation of {{Infobox NRHP/doc}}. The landmark's "official name" at the time of the NRHP designation was the U.S. General Post Office, and the infobox reflects this. This does not change even if the building itself is renamed. Per WP:CIVIL, I would also advise against labeling other people's contributions as "trolls", as that can be construed as uncivil.
2. Per WP:LEAD, the lead should summarize all major points of the article. This edit, with the edit summary "Information about the sale of the landmark has been redirected to the body", removed the fact that the NY government bought the building. This is important as it gives context to Moynihan Train Hall's use (the sale allowed the train hall to be opened).
3. This following edit went a little too far in the other direction. You added biographical information about Farley himself (and even a quote), but he has his own article. At best, this belongs in the body, not the lead, per WP:DUE. The article is about the building, not about Farley's life; we should concisely state what he is known for in the lead. The citations can also go into the body; under WP:CITELEAD they don't necessarily need to be in the lead.

Regarding the "station building" however, you are correct. Farley isn't the main building for Penn Station, so you were right to revert that. – Epicgenius (talk) 03:44, 16 August 2021 (UTC)
