College expenses: Incoming Students

edit

Jelizalde1, Basilalaubali, Asamra3, I'm sorry, but this article isn't appropriate for Wikipedia as it's written like a student essay rather than an encyclopedia article. I've moved it to Jelizalde1's userspace at User:Jelizalde1/College expenses: Incoming Students in the hopes that some of it may be reworked and used elsewhere, however I do note that it's been marked for speedy deletion. I wanted to give an explanation as to why this happened.

The main thing is that this is written in a persuasive style that uses your own personal research to further a point, namely that college is expensive. While I can personally testify that it is (boy is it!), an encyclopedia article should not be written in a way that leads the reader to view things in a particular way. Original research must be avoided as well, as Wikipedia can only have claims that have been explicitly made by an authority in a reliable source. You should also avoid writing to people directly via statements like "you should" or "you can" and you should also be careful about not taking a global perspective on matters - things that may be the norm in a European or North American setting may not be the norm elsewhere.

It's possible that there could be an article on the expenses of higher education or at least a subsection somewhere, however this content would have to be completely re-worked and re-written to be suitable for Wikipedia. As a student essay it's not bad, it just doesn't fit Wikipedia's guidelines. Shalor (Wiki Ed) (talk) 17:54, 7 August 2017 (UTC)Reply
