Mosque of Amr

Thanks for the great picture! Do you have any others of Old Cairo? I'm currently working on several articles about that area and am very interested in other images, whether they're of buildings, or of a view, or just of empty streets. I'd still love to see your photos, if you have them on a webpage somewhere? If nothing else, they help give me an idea of what's on the "tourist trail" in Old Cairo.  :) I do understand what you mean about pics already being up though. For example, when I went to Vietnam & Cambodia, I took some fantastic pics,[1] but most of the pages that I checked on Wikipedia already had better quality pics than what I'd taken!  :) Also, that's interesting about the Giza blocks. If you do find any sources on anything like that, feel free to add them to the appropriate articles, or point me at them and I'll see what I can do.  :) --Elonka 09:45, 26 August 2007 (UTC)

Beautiful pics, thanks for posting them! My #1 request is that other Mosque of Amr photo.[2] The Hatsheput pic is beautiful too. Do you have an account at the Commons? If not, I highly recommend creating one, and uploading these photos (feel free to post all of them). It's always good to have alternate images that show a slightly different angle of something. You could add your Cairo photos to this category: http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Cairo and the Hatshepsut pic could go here: http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Hatshepsut . Then they'd be available to all the different language WikiProjects. For a license, I recommend Creative Commons, Shared Attribution, though public domain works too. Or if this is too confusing, don't worry, just go ahead and upload here to the English Wikipedia, and I can get things moved over to Commons later. Are you in IMs? Thanks, I would like to join but I don't know how. I am a grad student in medicinal chemistry at University of Illinois at Chicago, and I spent a few years working as a pharmacy technician before coming here. I mostly do analytical work (in mass spectrometry) but I consider myself first and foremost a chemist. Dimethylfuran

Thanks for creating the figure for 2,5-dimethylfuran! Unfortunately there is a small error in the first intermediate, which should have just one double bond, rather than two. As it is now it has two pentavalent carbon atoms! Cheers, Itub 15:46, 4 September 2007 (UTC)

Pharmacology Collaboration of the Week

Aspirin has been selected as this week's Pharmacology Collaboration of the Week! Please help us bring this article up to featured standards during the week. The goal is to nominate this at WP:FAC on September 10, 2007.

Also, please visitWP:RxCOTW to support other articles for the next COTW. Articles that have been nominated thus far include Doxorubicin, Paracetamol (in the lead with 4 support votes so far), Muscle relaxant, Ethanol, and Bufotenin.

In other news:

• Bupropion has been promoted to featured status on August 31, 2007.

• The Wikipedia:WikiProject Pharmacology main page has been updated and overhauled, to make it easier to find things, as well as to highlight other goals and announcements for the project.

• Garrondo is asking for individuals to help review Therapies for multiple sclerosis, as he is considering nominating this article for GA status.

• Fvasconcellos notes that discussion is ongoing regarding the current wording of MEDMOS on including dosage information in drug articles. All input is welcome.

WikiProject Pharmacology Update

Here's a brief update in some of the recent developments of WikiProject Pharmacology!

• Aspirin has just completed its two week run as the first Collaboration of the Week! Many thanks to those editors that contributed; the article got a lot of good work accomplished, and in particular, much work was done in fixing up the history section. It's still not quite "done" yet (is a wikipedia article really ever done?), but after two weeks I think it's more important to push onwards with the development of the new collaboration of the week program. I will be fixing up Aspirin in the next few days and possibly nominating it for either GA or FA status.

• Muscle relaxant has been selected as the new Collaboration of the week until October 2, 2007! This article is currently rated as a "stub", so it's got quite a bit of work cut out for collaborators! Admittedly, featured status could be a long way off,... but still attainable! At the least, maybe we could at least get it up to meeting the Good article criteria? Please stop by the article and help improve it.

• Resveratrol, having recently achieved GA status on August 16, 2007, is now making a run for featured status. This is quite a fascinating compound. If you can, please stop by its discussion page and leave comments in support of it.

• Please remember that Wikipedia is not a forum for discussing or dispensing medical advice amongst users. Specifically, talk pages of articles should only be used to discuss improving the actual article in question. To help alleviate this situation, the template {{talkheader}} may be added to the top of talk pages, reminding users of the purpose of such pages. Additionally, unsigned comments and comments by anonymous users that are inappropriate may be removed from talk pages without being considered vandalism.

• There was an interesting article on ZDNet last week about Hewlett Packard licensing its patented microneedle technology used in common inkjet printers to be used in transdermal patches to deliver a time-controlled release of drugs to patients. This information could be added to articles such as route of administration or drug delivery.

I really don't think it's likely to pass for Feature Article status -- having gone through a couple of those already I can spot a couple things on a cursory glance that are not likely to hold up to that level of scrutiny. I'll do a detailed critique of it, but right off the bat I can see occasional instances of "weasel" (i.e. imprecise) wording, lists where there should be prose, I think that much of the "open problem" section is of a dubious nature, and you will definitely not get to FA status with all of those uncited citations. Long way to go for FA (IMHO), but GA is doable.

Give me a day or two, then check back to the article for a list of things that need to be changed/altered/cut/improved on the article's discussion page. Cheers! Captmondo 19:30, 26 September 2007 (UTC)

Okay, I've done a quick pass and did a high-level critique of the more obvious faults in the Ancient Egypt article. I also note that apparently this article was once a GA candidate that failed. Unfortunately I can't find the proper link to the critique it must have gone through at that time, but more info could be found there.

Hokusai image

The one you swopped to is a facsimile of 100 years later than the original, and should not be used in articles on art, nor any article without making this very clear. Johnbod 00:50, 10 October 2007 (UTC)

Because they are not the same thing at all. These are NOT reprints using the same blocks, but are copies created from scratch (using the same methods) by people with an original in front of them. The description on the file makes that perfectly clear. We would not dream of (knowingly) putting up a Rembrandt that was a copy of a hundred years later. I went through all this on two debates on the Great Wave from this series at Commons (I don't know what happened in the end). On that one several people pointed out there were actually easy to spot differences in the composition - probably here too. Actually in this case, unlike most of the series, there is very little difference in quality of scan between the two. The copy Great Wave is a much better scan, no doubt of a much brighter original. FL Main page mockup

I am not sure if you have seen WP:FC. It contains a section where a few hundred of the WP:FLs have been excerpted. As I imagine it, the new section would use the work already done there to create the excerpts. OK! I've already dealt with a lot of the issus that were raised and it's greatly improved. I don't reaaly think it needs too much more doing to it. The really hard part was trying to cite info that other people had written, and which I didn't want to remove. Everybody likes to have their contribution there somewhwere. one of the ways I got around the problem was to create 3 new pages and put all the Science and invention on one, all the Dan Brownish stuff on another, and all the speculation about pederast relationships on another.... something for everyone.... Would you believe that when I started work on the Leonardo page, there was a list of his paintings, but no information about his career as an artist.

Anyway, currently I'm doing a little bit of work on one of my particular loves, the Australian architect Edmund Blacket. There are a few glaring holes that have been filled in wiith speculation, when actually the facts are known from his diaries and letters. So this is easy... Amandajm 00:09, 15 October 2007 (UTC)

pictures from the Book of the Dead

The author of the book contends that these pictures are reproductions of reconstructions of the original text. I'd quite believe him - these pictures were high quality, certainly not verbatim copies of 2000+ year old papyrus, there is clearly some work involved in reconstructing them. As for sending messages, we have hundreds and hundreds of emails in m:OTRS to process, no time to discuss every one of the issue. David.Monniaux 15:02, 17 October 2007 (UTC)

On the prose of Rob-B-Hood

As I said in the reply, there are more changes pending. I'm a bit busy IRL, so it would take me time to improve the article. However, the film's been peer reviewed before: Wikipedia:WikiProject Films/Peer review/Rob-B-Hood. Could you give some examples of problematic prose? Which sections need the most fixes?

As for the homosexual security van drivers part, it's based on this dialog in the film.

Guard 1: What? Another robber in a motorcycle?

Guard 2: He's... handsome.

And after the car chase.

Guard 2: Backup surely was fast! And it's all thanks to you.

Guard 1: Where are you from?

Guard 2: I'm from Broke Broke Mountain.

OK, here's a follow up. Gram123 and I have done some copyediting of the prose of the article, and attempted to improve the flow of the plot. I've removed some redundant sentences and merged several short paragraphs, and ordered them in a more logical order. I'd be glad if you take another look at it, and inform me of any problematic areas that still exist. Let's hope the League of Copyeditors don't have to get involved. (They are slow.)
