Roger Starr draft
editHi JcwDenno. Following our conversation at the Teahouse, I'd like to know whether you intend to develop the draft on Starr? It seems to me that there are actually plenty of sources to get it over the main hurdle, which is to demonstrate notability. Looking at your Userpage, I don't know why you chose Starr as a topic to write about but your judgement is sound that he could be article-worthy. I ask about your intentions because if you have been disheartened by the first decline notice, you shouldn't be: and if you want to stop all work on that draft I may then take it on myself. (Please answer here in this thread). Regards. Mike Turnbull (talk) 13:40, 25 May 2023 (UTC)
- Hi mike!
- Thanks for your message. I do plan to develop the page during my holiday next week. I am definitely determined to get it done. I chose this subject as i read about Starr and thought damn I should add it. JcwDenno (talk) 15:13, 25 May 2023 (UTC)
- I see you uploaded a picture to Commons for the article and that you know it is copyrighted. That's not allowed: Commons only accepts free images (technically, CC BY or public domain). It will be deleted. Once the draft is accepted, and only then, a non-free image can be uploaded here on the English Wikipedia to illustrate the article under the rules at WP:NONFREE. That's because Starr is dead - nonfree images of living people are not allowed. The presence or otherwise of an image won't alter the review of the article since it doesn't assist showing Starr is notable. I'm going to remove it from the draft in a moment. Mike Turnbull (talk) 09:29, 31 May 2023 (UTC)
- Ok cheers, i looked at the rules and did all the steps in the commons such as releasing the rights etc. I thought it was all ok but im still new to this so bear with. Thank you for all your help (: JcwDenno (talk) 09:32, 31 May 2023 (UTC)
- Yes, the point is that you don't own the rights, so can't release them! Don't worry, lots of people assume that if an image is freely available from a weblink they can do anything they like with it, although that's actually untrue.... and Commons is one of the few places where rights are taken very seriously. As you'll see from the filepage on Commons, the image will be deleted automatically in a week and you don't need to do anything more there. Mike Turnbull (talk) 09:45, 31 May 2023 (UTC)
- ok awesome, how close do you think the draft is to it being acceptable? JcwDenno (talk) 09:48, 31 May 2023 (UTC)
- It's not far off. I'm going on holiday tomorrow but I should have time to do a bit of copy-editing and tidying this evening. I suggest you add today anything else you can think of from the sources and perhaps try to create an {{infobox author}} or {{infobox person}} for him as an exercise in your Wiki-skills. I'll tweak things this evening and you can re-submit tomorrow. The reviewer will then mention anything else they think is sub-par. Mike Turnbull (talk) 10:04, 31 May 2023 (UTC)
- I will try and put more in later, there is still a source I haven't opened yet so more to come. I could do my stuff and you can tweak when you get back? No rush. Have a good holiday Mikey JcwDenno (talk) 10:06, 31 May 2023 (UTC)
- Good answer. See WP:THEREISNODEADLINE. I'll be back on 14 June, so let's make the end of that week our target. Mike Turnbull (talk) 10:12, 31 May 2023 (UTC)
- Thats when my exams are done so should be all ok, have a good time! JcwDenno (talk) 10:14, 31 May 2023 (UTC)
- I've made some more changes and copyedits. I think that the draft will now pass review, so you should resubmit it after any further changes you had in mind. An infobox isn't a must-have but will be the place to insert the image after the article is live. Mike Turnbull (talk) 15:10, 20 June 2023 (UTC)
- I've resubmitted the draft today because there is currently a long queue, so it may take a while to be reviewed. You can continue to edit it while it is waiting, if you like. IMO it should pass muster now but if not it will be interesting to hear what an experienced reviewer thinks is still wrong. Mike Turnbull (talk) 17:36, 5 July 2023 (UTC)
- Hi again JcwDenno. There was a long wait for approval owing to the backlog, which is currently subject to a drive to clear things. As a result, Roger Starr has just been accepted and as such is eligible for a "did you know" on the MainPage, which are always fun to do. If you wish, take a look at that link and decide whether you want to submit a suitable "hook" within the next 7 days. I can help with the technicalities if you run into problems. You can also now proceed to upload and incorporate the nonfree image. Mike Turnbull (talk) 12:07, 2 November 2023 (UTC)

Grassroots moved back
editHey! I think a move of an article like this, when there's previous debate on the talk page, should probably go through the requested moves process. The title it was at was also unsuitable; the article uses -ize spellings, so "Grassroots Organisations" would be the wrong variety of English, and "organi[s/z]ations" in that context should be uncapitalized (there's a number of guidelines on this, but just read the first paragraph of WP:NCCAPS).
If you're still interested in making the move, request one at WP:RM to what you think the best new title would be. Feel free to ask me if you have any further questions. Skarmory (talk • contribs) 04:18, 1 June 2023 (UTC)
