Should this be split into two templates? edit

I think that is has become big enough that two templates can be made. One for editing talk pages the other as a brief policy introduction. This allows for more flexible deployment. JBH (talk) 17:55, 26 January 2015 (UTC)Reply

Policy introduction wording edit

This section is meant to head off some of the problems caused by good faith editors who are unaware of our content policies. It should touch on the areas where 70-80% of misunderstandings come up and take less than two minutes for an English-3 reader to read. JBH (talk) 17:55, 26 January 2015 (UTC)Reply

Final edit

Draft is completed. Original split into two essays and moved out of sandbox. JBH (talk) 15:42, 21 February 2015 (UTC)Reply

Belated comment edit

Hi - I just stumbled across this page. It might be worth me pointing out there's a typo (minuted instead of minutes), and it might be worth you clarifying that a user only receives a notification if the ping/u/re templates are saved at the same time as the post is first published and signed with four tildes. I fell foul of assuming that, if I missed out the person I was notifying, I could notify them by adding them in and saving again. One can't. (I now add it in and resign my post and publish - assuming that works, anyway!) Out of interest - where is this advice going? Regards, Nick Moyes (talk) 10:17, 9 March 2018 (UTC)Reply

@Nick Moyes: Thank you - fixed. I use this page mainly for editors I encounter when doing NPR, or happen to see pop up somewhere I have watchlisted, who are struggling to communicate ie not indenting/signing. Probably 50% of the time I link it in threads on my own talk page when someone comes to ask questions about new articles. I have found, anecdotally, that new users who take the time to learn the basics of threading etc have better outcomes — that and I got tired of having to reformat threads on my talk page  .
On pings the software needs to see it as a 'new edit'. I have never really figured out how it determines what that is. I know that if you ping and forget to sign it will not work if you just add a signature and I am pretty sure that just stripping the sig and signing again will not work either. I usually just add a parenthetical saying I messed up the ping and add a new signed ping to that. Jbh Talk 15:04, 9 March 2018 (UTC)Reply
