July 2008 edit

Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, one or more of the external links you added do not comply with our guidelines for external links and have been removed. Wikipedia is not a collection of links; nor should it be used for advertising or promotion. Since Wikipedia uses nofollow tags, external links do not alter search engine rankings. If you feel the link should be added to the article, please discuss it on the article's talk page before reinserting it. Please take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you. Dlohcierekim 15:54, 17 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

external links edit

Thanks for your note. You seem to be inserting external links to promote a product. However great the product, Wikipedia is an encyclopedia. It is not an advertising venue. Please see WP:EL for more info. Cheers, Dlohcierekim 16:20, 17 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

thanks for your note. Sorry, i don't follow. You seem to be trying to convince me somehow that the links you added deserve to be in Wikipedia. They do not. Wikipedia is not here to help promote products, revolutionary or otherwise. I left you no instructions. You need to read our policies to understand that your external link adds do not comply. I would prefer to discuss matters here, openly, rather than sub rosa via email. Cheers, Dlohcierekim 16:39, 17 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

If there are other commercial links then someone should go through and remove them too. Please feel free to discuss the matter with other editors of the page. Seek a consensus. Perhaps we should seek a third opinion. Cheers, Dlohcierekim 16:51, 17 July 2008 (UTC)`Reply

If it's as revolutionary as the light bulb, it should have it's own article. You need to able to provide verifiable, reliable sources showing how it meets notability requirements if that is the case. I have requested a third opinion from User:Gwen Gale. Cheers. Dlohcierekim 17:08, 17 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Following Wikipedia:EL#Advertising_and_conflicts_of_interest and given you have disclosed it's your business, along with the wording of the link, this link does not belong in the article. Gwen Gale (talk) 17:11, 17 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

No. That would still be advertising, and an example should be a household name so that readers make the connection. Frankly, you see more into getting this product name out than in building the encyclopedia. I think you should get you own personal webpage, which would not have the constraints we have here. Sorry. Your recent edits edit

Hi there. In case you didn't know, when you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion, you should sign your posts by typing four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment. If you can't type the tilde character, you should click on the signature button   located above the edit window. This will automatically insert a signature with your name and the time you posted the comment. This information is useful because other editors will be able to tell who said what, and when. Thank you! --SineBot (talk) 17:02, 17 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

external links revisted edit

I reviewed the external links as you suggested.

  • Cloud computing-- removed dead link. the remaining two are third party articles not promoting a company
  • Visual programming language-- link to open directory project. does not promote any comapny or product
  • Platform as a service-- removed suspicious (press release looking) links. The remaining are neutral, providing comparisons and an article in the Guardian. Thanks for your help. Cheers. Dlohcierekim 17:17, 17 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

an article edit

I meant you need to have it notable enough for a Wikipedia article and then link to the Wikipedia article. You need to read the notability guidelines and the guidelines for verifiability and reliable sources. If the thing meets these guidelines, and is adequately sourced, then you should create an article about it and then you could put a link to the Wikipedia article in the PAAS article. Non-free files in your user space edit

Hey there Javaeu, thank you for your contributions. I am a bot, alerting you that non-free files are not allowed in user or talk space. I removed some files I found on User:Javaeu/IXP online Service. In the future, please refrain from adding fair-use files to your user-space drafts or your talk page.

  • See a log of files removed today here.

Thank you, -- DASHBot (talk) 05:00, 6 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

Orphaned non-free media (File:IXP-logo.png) edit

Thanks for uploading File:IXP-logo.png. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Melesse (talk) 06:10, 6 October 2010 (UTC)Reply
