Boxnation on Virgin Media

"it will be on Virgin - just wait for official date to be confirmed - hopefully soon!" http://twitter.com/#!/boxnationtv --81.98.187.243 (talk) 20:49, 18 October 2011 (UTC)

The channel is already listed. Your quote doesn't appear to be there though, the closest thing is this. - Jasmeet_181 (talk) 06:28, 19 October 2011 (UTC)

PBS UK

Was that edit summary directed towards me? If so, then... The edit summary was correct, you added information without a source, and because you didn't provide an edit summary, I had no idea that it was true. Jayy008 (talk) 21:01, 19 October 2011 (UTC)

You didn't revert one edit (like on your earlier attempt), you just changed/partially reverted the channel number, therefore the edit summary was inaccurate. There is no requirement to add an edit summary, it's just good practise and certainly not a valid reason to revert changes. Requesting a citation or trying to find and cite supporting sources yourself is also considered good practise. You have recently edited List of channels on Sky which contained all of the information as does a simple search. In practice not everything needs to be attributed, the source used now was already cited in the article twice and was added at the same time as the original change. How many channel articles cite a source for the channel number in the infobox? There was also an IP editor who added that the channel would be in widescreen without adding a source or edit summary but you left that alone. - Jasmeet_181 (talk) 16:20, 20 October 2011 (UTC)
It doesn't become my job to sort the article out if users don't bother to add sources or change the rest of the article. It's simply easy and helpful to add an edit summary. I have edited "List of channels on Sky", but that doesn't mean I watch-list the page and frequently check it. Reverting an edit based on lack of edit summary is fine if the edit was adding unsourced information without explanation or changing the conflicting information. It's not hard to say "changing channel number, already sourced in article". My first two edits I reverted myself as I realized you'd overhauled the article. The section regarding position was still listed as replacing ROSA, and the infobox was listed differently, so there was conflicting information which is the only reason I reverted. If you made your edit clear by providing an edit summary, then I wouldn't have reverted. Regarding the widescreen thing, I didn't notice, I simply assumed it would be in widescreen and it wasn't conflicting anything written in the prose of the article. Jayy008 (talk) 18:38, 20 October 2011 (UTC)
No one said it was your job but that doesn't mean you can't actually attempt to improve the article yourself. Since it isn't contentious material in the biography of a living person, vandalism or abuse, you are expected to carefully consider edits before reverting them. Since it only took seconds to find a number of websites with the updated channel number, one of which was already sourced, and at first you didn't check what you were reverting, I'm not sure you did carefully consider it. If you're trying to make a point of making other users follow best practises, then it's hypocritical to claim that you don't shouldn't need to. I accept that it's helpful to have edit summaries but I don't find them easy to write, for instance the example you gave doesn't cover a lot of the other changes made in that edit. Rosa will close when when PBS launches (using the same stream, broadcast license etc.) so its not really contradictory, channel numbers or EPG slots were not mentioned in the rest of the article so there wasn't necessarily anything to update. Again channel numbers aren't sourced in the infobox, at least that I've seen. The Sky list was more of an example that you're likely to be aware of other parts of Wikipedia that may contain such information if you can't be bothered to search for yourself. Anyway back to the original issue, the edit summary, I disagree that it was accurate but I'm not going to lose any sleep over it. - Jasmeet_181 (talk) 11:11, 21 October 2011 (UTC)
I agree the first one was rushed, as I believe I said above. Which is why I reverted back and then re-done the edit—only removing the unsourced. Again, you said about infoboxes, I never said you need to source the infobox. The article said PBS UK will replace Rosa on channel 231 but the infobox said it will be on 166. There's no good having a source for it somewhere in the article if you don't update with "however, they were able to acquire a better slot" linking to that source—which you did afterwards, and that's all that was needed to begin with. Jayy008 (talk) 14:56, 21 October 2011 (UTC)
Also, just because the information is on the "List of..." page has nothing at all to do with PBS UK, it's a separate article. And it's not that I can't be bothered, it's that I shouldn't have to Google information because something is changed in the infobox without updating the article itself. Likely an edit summary "Updating infobox, sourced in the article." would do. Jayy008 (talk) 15:26, 21 October 2011 (UTC)

Again, channel numbers/slots weren't mentioned anywhere else in the article until after all this.[1] While the burden of evidence lies with the person adding material, its also the case that editors should try to find and cite supporting sources themselves instead of just arbitrarily removing things, see WP:BURDEN and WP:FIXTHEPROBLEM. The whole not my job to check argument is essentially featured in Wikipedia:Ownership of articles#On revert example 4. Regardless of the fact that you undid your first revert, its incredibly poor that you didn't even check what you're reverting beforehand. I've already explained that your example of an edit summary only covers a small part of the changes in the edit and doesn't sufficiently explain the rest, which can be perceived as uncivil. What's done is done though and the article is better off, which is what matters. - Jasmeet_181 (talk) 20:12, 21 October 2011 (UTC)

Just to be clear I wasn't attempting to accuse you of ownership of the article. - Jasmeet_181 (talk) 20:48, 21 October 2011 (UTC)
I wouldn't have thought that anyway as I've hardly edited the article. I didn't remove anything, all I did was change the number in the infobox in the end. If I make a sloppy revert, I will always fix it very quickly as it's unintentional and rushed. The article is much better off now, since you've added the extra information, I agree. Eden moving to M+ Package?

Was looking on Virgin Medias list of channels for M+ here http://shop.virginmedia.com/digital-tv/tv-size-m-plus.html and it states Eden is included in the package, however I'm unsure if it has been officially added or if its like what they did before(You know how they added Sky Arts 1 and 2 to the M+ package on the website but waited a few days to a week before adding to peoples boxes). Either way something to look out for, unsure if I should add to the Wikipedia page until people on the package report it being on their box 82.15.8.146 (talk) 13:47, 21 October 2011 (UTC)

I haven't read anything that indicates that it has moved and other parts of the website list it in higher packages. I'd wait before adding it to the tables but it may be worth adding it the Future channels & Events section though in case it is like the Sky Arts channels. There was a customer news update on Sky Arts so there should be one when/if Eden moves. - Jasmeet_181 (talk) 20:12, 21 October 2011 (UTC)

Sourcing

Hi Jasmeet, where is the source for the rest of the marketing information? If it's in the article, I'm going to put a ref name. Jayy008 (talk) 14:36, 25 October 2011 (UTC)

It's all in the cited Campaign article titled "PBS UK appoints Dunning Penney Jones for on-air branding". - Jasmeet_181 (talk) 22:28, 25 October 2011 (UTC)
Ah, okay, Thanks. BTW, your use of edit summaries on the page has been extremely helpful and highly appreciated. Jayy008 (talk) 15:20, 27 October 2011 (UTC)

CH4 hd

im not disputing what you are saying that it has already launched, but they plan to relaunch it fro astra 1n although most people wont notice, by leaving the freq to scan peopel can find it before it goes off air, as when they switch people who dnt usea sky box will lose the channel, maybe best putting it on list of free to air or channel 4 own article?--Andrewcrawford (talk - contrib) 19:04, 28 October 2011 (UTC)

I've got no problems with it being on the other two articles you've said but it didn't make sense on the Sky article as the channel itself is already on the EPG rather than testing off the EPG before launch. Channels moving between transponders/satellites happen quite often. - Jasmeet_181 (talk) 07:19, 1 November 2011 (UTC)

OBE TV

its gone from the EPG yet again(Ruth-2013 (talk) 22:00, 28 October 2011 (UTC)) (post signed after posting it)

not sure who you are but i can assure you teh channel is still there but it might nto be on teh sky box epg--Andrewcrawford (talk - contrib) 19:46, 28 October 2011 (UTC)
And notice I said the WORDS EPG in my sentence. Also comment was not directed at yourself. I said nothing whats so ever about it broadcasting off the EPG now did I. I basically said its gone off the sky EPG again if you read the sentence correctly(Ruth-2013 (talk) 19:51, 28 October 2011 (UTC))
you never signed yoru post, i know yoru post wasnt to me and you said it off the epg, but that could men the channel has shut down i am only pointing out it is still broadcasting and it might have decided not to have sky epg slot or sold it--Andrewcrawford (talk - contrib) 20:26, 28 October 2011 (UTC)
That to me don't mean it shut down all I said was off epg. And I highly doubt the channel has sold there slot. This channel is well known for vanishing from the EPG then returning sometime weeks or months later. Its done this a lot.(Ruth-2013 (talk) 21:59, 28 October 2011 (UTC))
Can't see any reason why it wasn't removed from the Sky article. - Jasmeet_181 (talk) 07:19, 1 November 2011 (UTC)

17 HD channels to launch on Smallworld Cable by this Christmas

In response to a question on the Digital Spy forums, Durnford said: "We are expecting to launch Sky Sports HD (1&2) plus all the Sky Movies in HD for this Christmas, but are still working with BSkyB on the technical side.

Basically they are coming up to double check our technical implementation from a security point of view. I don't expect any issues but we cannot formally launch until that is finalised and the contract signed.

"The equipment has all been ordered and the technical work is underway. We will also be launching a number of SD channels at the same time, plus Sky1 HD, Sky Living HD, and Sky Arts 1&2 HD. I should be able to confirm in the next two weeks or so."' http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/tech/news/a348786/sky-sports-sky-movies-to-launch-in-hd-on-smallworld-cable.html --81.98.187.243 (talk) 14:51, 2 November 2011 (UTC)#

TVCatchup and Quest

Please stop changing that time as they ONLY broadcast on freeview from 11am until 1am and I know this because 1. I work in IPTV although not for TVCatchup and 2. I know the guys behind TVCatchup very well in fact one of the founders is a personal friend of mine.

Their TVguide is a general TVGuide taken from a third party source and is not designed specifically for freeview which have and always have had different viewing times as opposed to Sky for example, the same of which can be seen in the Yesterday channel which on freeview is not 24 hours, yet on Sky it is.

I hope that finally clears things up and now you understand. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Stevewake1962 (talkcontribs) 09:23, 8 December 2011 (UTC)

Smallworld Cable

Jasmeet, I got your message on Smallworld Cable edits. I refute that they are derogatory - they are in fact true. As one of many disgruntled customers I have a right to make such comments on what is an advert page for a commercial, profit making organisation. For these comments not to be included is censorship, something I know Jimmy Wales detests. Please understand that such comments should not be deleted as it is against the mission statement of Wikipedia as a whole. Thanks. Cephas — Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.255.199.167 (talk) 18:50, 20 December 2011 (UTC)

I never mentioned anything about it being derogatory, although quite frankly it was. Your edits (including those added yesterday) are not supported by sources or written from a neutral point of view. Article about former TV channels in the United Kingdon

Hello. I am a new user and happened to come across the article about former TV channels in the United Kingdon.

I noticed that some info was missing from the page - from 1998 and 1999 which I knew about and wanted to put it on the page.

I have done that twice now, and twice it has been removed.

I shall try to be polite, but I see little point in contributing if all that happens is my contribution gets deleted because you may not be aware of the existence of the information I rpovided.

If that was to happen to every article, there would be little point it having Wikipedia at all so please can you advise what I should do so the info is not removed in future.

Thank you very much and I look forward to hearing from you.

Regards James Jimbo2012a (talk) 13:47, 8 March 2012 (UTC)

Hello Jimbo, your question has been answered at the Help Desk now. Ruler of Coasters  Talk  13:57, 8 March 2012 (UTC)

Hi, the channels that I've removed are considered to have been rebranded/renamed etc., rather than having closed. For example, the article Dave (TV channel) lists 'UK Gold Classics' as a former name of the channel. Category:Defunct British television channels also only lists British television channels which have closed completely (and have Wikipedia articles). Please remember that the information you're adding needs to be verifiable, although I appreciate how hard it can be to find reliable sources for small or older channels. - Jasmeet_181 (talk) 15:55, 8 March 2012 (UTC)

No proof!

I've seen this paragraph being added to Vintage TV's entry:

"In March 2012, during a series of UK press interviews, a number of former staff members, including some of its presenters announced that they had retained a high profile firm of media lawyers and were joining forces to issue a number of both high court and county court proceedings against the owner of Vintage TV."

What does it mean? what presenters? this is a great channel and i love it. I've checked with some friends in the press and they don't know anything about it. why don't you identify yourself if this is true? SO verify it! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Cleveld (talkcontribs) 13:02, 12 April 2012 (UTC)

I have no idea why you're accusing me or Feudonym of adding that, the history page clearly indicates that Tvgd and later 109.154.235.88 and 86.166.112.151 added that text. I'd agree with you, something like that really does need a source but please calm down. - Jasmeet_181 (talk) 13:25, 12 April 2012 (UTC)

The Africa Channel

This channel must have went free to air recently. If you look at there twitter here: http://twitter.com/#!/africachanneluk at the top of the page it says: Free-to-air on Sky Channel 268. www.theafricachannel.tv also if you have a dish you could check its frequency on 11261 H 27500 2/3 Do you think its safe enough to change over on the sky lists?(Ruth-2013 (talk) 01:01, 25 April 2012 (UTC))

I've checked and it is FTA, according to the KingOfSat change log it happened on 20 April.[2] I can't see any problems with making the relevant changes, it's listed as FTA on the Sky website too.[3] - Jasmeet_181 (talk) 08:20, 25 April 2012 (UTC)

Ginx TV

Hello, Jasmeet. I recently tried to add the important re-launch date of April 2011 to the Ginx entry, which I see you have removed in an edit. This reflects that Ginx took over playout services from Dori Media on that date, having commissioned RRsat to build a state of the art HD playout facility for the channel. At the time Ginx also moved its scheduling function from Tel-Aviv to London and re-branded the service to the 'green' incarnation that is now on air. The on-air look was commissioned from Red Bee in London. Would you have any better suggestions as to how to capture that? Also the BT Vision deal has ended. many thanks for keeping the entry up to date thus far. I'd love to know more about what link to the channel you have. 213.63.136.125 (talk) 16:52, 12 September 2012 (UTC)

Hi, thanks for the kind words. Assuming that you're Michiel.bakker, my primary reason for removing some of the information you added was that it was unsourced and I couldn't find any supporting sources, required to meet Wikipedia's core verifiability and no original research policies. This is also true of some of the information above. If you can provide sources and would still like to change that article, then as someone with a conflict of interest you are encouraged to propose changes on the article's talk page. For information on how to contribute to Wikipedia when you have a conflict of interest, please see our frequently asked questions for organizations. The channel's availability, including Serbia Broadband (SBB), is noted in the infobox on the right of the article. List of Net channels AFD

Hiya, Jasmeet. I am contacting you because you recently left a comment at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/3rd bundle of channel lineups. I have just created another AfD, nominating List of Net channels for deletion. If you are interested, you can leave a comment at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of Net channels. Thanks. -- Wikipedical (talk) 03:19, 4 November 2012 (UTC)

Channel lineups AFD

jasmeet i suggest not updating the other pages until these afd are done as it looks likely there all getting deleted because some editors quote one policy and say it trumps others including verafabilty and reliable sources no point wasting your time on somethin getting deletedAndrewcrawford (talk - contrib) 17:09, 25 October 2012 (UTC)

I'll probably userfy the UK services to check that the UK list is complete and up to date (although Bbb2007 has done an excellent job of that) before making them redirect there and possibly transferring to other Wikis such as Wikia (List of channels on Sky Digital) or TV Live Wiki. Although as I edit neither it's probably unfair to just dump them in and leave them. To be honest this is pretty similar to the argument over keeping the Sky HD channel list which we were both against and with most of the regulars from a few years ago having left and the higher workload in copying information across many articles it may be blessing in disguise. Although it seems strange that nations/regions/affiliates etc. with the same or very similar information and presentation aren't considered directories and that some of the users of had voted delete, are now voting keep on Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of digital terrestrial television channels (UK) and Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of television stations in New York. Of course there's always the small possibility that some could be kept, for example on Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of channels on Sky I've argued that the entries are famous because they are associated with or significantly contribute to the list topic and that as the Sky EPG is open to third parties without inclusion into the Sky subscription service it isn't dependant on one commercial entity. As the decision lies with an uninvolved admin based on reasonable, logical, policy-based arguments rather than a tally of votes there's a chance but I doubt it. - Jasmeet_181 (talk) 05:27, 26 October 2012 (UTC)
maybe what we should do is create a page similar to the hd channe list and list all different providers as that what got said in the afd it be fine for one like that, as for the package information that we had previously we could create a template for it well ic ould if you dnt know how, let me know if ou want to go down that line as a template would be best and we can work from there, i think the information will still be on google cache for awhile i will see if i can get it saved for nowAndrewcrawford (talk - contrib) 13:50, 26 October 2012 (UTC)
http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:aEj3Rg6p51kJ:en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_channels_on_Sky+&cd=1&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=uk wont get the code but get the information i will try get the other lists before there deleted toAndrewcrawford (talk - contrib) 13:52, 26 October 2012 (UTC)
List of television stations in the United Kingdom already exits. I'd strongly recommend against adding package information as it will just be argued that it's a sales directory, at most basic information such as FTA, FTV, subscription and PPV might be okay. I'd leave major changes until all the AfDs have been closed to see what's left and we're sure that they won't be extended. A request to userfy pages can be made after deletion so there's no need to make copies, I've already made a request for the Sky set. - Jasmeet_181 (talk) 14:09, 26 October 2012 (UTC)
Sorry Andrew, I haven't been around much recently and this slipped my mind, a copy of List of channels on Sky is available on Speedy deletion Wiki (http://speedydeletion.wikia.com/wiki/List_of_channels_on_Sky). I was thinking about opening a discussion on the removal of most channel numbers from List of television stations in the United Kingdom, similar to Talk:List of digital terrestrial television channels (UK)#After AfD - the way forward. Based on some of the comments in Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of Net channels, I don't believe that there's a consensus to remove them, only to delete articles on a single service's line-up. Would you agree that tha's the case? - Jasmeet_181 (talk) 06:08, 2 December 2012 (UTC)

yes i agree but i do fear the ones who got them all deleted wont accept it and just cite another wikipedia policie to justifyoing itAndrewcrawford (talk - contrib) 09:31, 3 December 2012 (UTC)

I have started a discussion on this at Talk:List of television stations in the United Kingdom#The way forward, worst case scenario is nothing will change. - Jasmeet_181 (talk) 12:11, 19 December 2012 (UTC)

Cinemoi

How did you discover that the channel had stopped broadcasting in the UK - was a real puzzle to me!YellowFratello (talk) 12:52, 31 December 2012 (UTC)

It was in a few TV forums such as Digital Spy, the only mention I could find from Cinemoi themselves was on their Facebook page.[5] - Jasmeet_181 (talk) 11:00, 1 January 2013 (UTC)

For now I'd prefer to pursue the version of List of television stations in the United Kingdom that's being discussed. Good luck with your Wiki. - Jasmeet_181 (talk) 11:00, 1 January 2013 (UTC)

Now that "List of Channels on ... " has been removed

Hi Jasmeet

I've noticed for the last few years you have been regularly updating various Wiki TV pages which has been so informative and helpful

But now that most of this pages have been removed with the exception of http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_free-to-air_channels_at_28%C2%B0E http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_HD_channels_in_Ireland http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_HD_channels_in_the_United_Kingdom and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_former_TV_channels_in_the_United_Kingdom

This site have / in the process of keeping TV enthusiasts up to date

http://channelwiki.x10.mx/wiki/Main_Page

It would be great if you could have a look and keep an eye of it

Regards

Hi CMD Ireland, thanks for the offer, I'm aware of that wiki but as you can probably tell I'm not editing regularly at the moment. That wiki seems to have attracted more users than the Wikipedia versions did anyway, which is promising. I have a roughly up to date copy of List of television stations in the United Kingdom in the old table format, which may be useful for List of digital television channels (UK), if you want it. Bbb2007 is the only other regular editor I can think of from the old lists. - Jasmeet_181 (talk) 13:31, 25 June 2013 (UTC)
