Thank you for welcoming me. I have already contested the deletion of https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anna_maree_manciet and was wondering how long it would take to receive a response for it. I created the page with the permission of the person herself and it was requested of her by her employer Dell Inc. It was not complete and I only saved the page and published it so that she could see the progress and allow her to edit and complete the article with the information that she knows best.

Miley Cyrus is the 264th most popular article on Wikipedia, and calling her a "sex symbol" in the first sentence is unlikely to go down well. If you're feeling especially dogged, by all means take it to the talk page to have other people disagree with you there, but the article has quite recently been promoted to GA status quite recently and everything there is there for a reason. Klein model history

I just did a search for Klein Bikes to get an idea of what color scheme to use. All of the logos seem to be monochrome, but I did find this. If you have any additional input on colors, it would be of some aid. If not, I think I'm going to go with WP's color scheme of greys and blues. Did you know?

The character formatting menu, or "Style text" menu lets you set bold, italic, and other text styles. "Clear formatting" removes all text styles and removes links to other pages.

The user guide has information about how to use VisualEditor.

The VisualEditor team is mostly working to fix bugs, improve performance, reduce technical debt, and other infrastructure needs. You can find on Mediawiki.org weekly updates detailing recent work.

• They have moved the "Keyboard shortcuts" link out of the "Page options" menu, into the "Help" menu. Within dialog boxes, buttons are now more accessible (via the Tab key) from the keyboard.
• You can now see the target of the link when you click on it, without having to open the inspector.
• The team also expanded TemplateData: You can now add a parameter type  "date" for dates and times in the ISO 8601 format, and  "boolean" for values which are true or false. Also, templates that redirect to other templates (like {{citeweb}} → {{cite web}}) now get the TemplateData of their target (bug 50964). You can test TemplateData by editing mw:Template:Sandbox/doc.
• Category: and File: pages now display their contents correctly after saving an edit (bug 65349, bug 64239)
• They have also improved reference editing: You should no longer be able to add empty citations with VisualEditor (bug 64715), as with references. When you edit a reference, you can now empty it and click the "use an existing reference" button to replace it with another reference instead. 
• It is now possible to edit inline images with VisualEditor. Remember that inline images cannot display captions, so existing captions get removed. Many other bugs related to images were also fixed.
• You can now add and edit {{DISPLAYTITLE}} and __DISAMBIG__ in the "Page options" menu, rounding out the full set of page options currently planned.
• The tool to insert special characters is now wider and simpler.

Looking ahead

The VisualEditor team has posted a draft of their goals for the next fiscal year. You can read them and suggest changes on MediaWiki.org.

The team posts details about planned work on VisualEditor's roadmap. You will soon be able to drag-and-drop text as well as images. If you drag an image to a new place, it won't let you place it in the middle of a paragraph. All dialog boxes and windows will be simplified based on user testing and feedback. The VisualEditor team plans to add autofill features for citations. Your ideas about making referencing quick and easy are still wanted. Support for upright image sizes is being developed. The designers are also working on support for viewing and editing hidden HTML comments and adding rows and columns to tables.

WikiCup 2014 June newsletter

After an extremely close race, Round 3 is over. 244 points secured a place in Round 4, which is comparable to previous years- 321 was required in 2013, while 243 points were needed in 2012. Pool C's Godot13 (submissions) was the round's highest scorer, mostly due to a 32 featured pictures, including both scans and photographs. Also from Pool C, Casliber (submissions) finished second overall, claiming three featured articles, including the high-importance Grus (constellation). Third place was Pool B's , whose contributions included featured articles Russian battleship Poltava (1894) and Russian battleship Peresvet. Pool C saw the highest number of participants advance, with six out of eight making it to the next round.

The round saw this year's first featured portal, with Sven Manguard (submissions) taking Portal:Literature to featured status. The round also saw the first good topic points, thanks to 12george1 (submissions) and the 2013 Atlantic hurricane season. This means that all content types have been claimed this year. Other contributions of note this round include a featured topic on Maya Angelou's autobiographies from Figureskatingfan (submissions), a good article on the noted Czech footballer Tomáš Rosický from Cloudz679 (submissions) and a now-featured video game screenshot, freely released due to the efforts of Sven Manguard (submissions).

The judges would like to remind participants to update submission pages promptly. This means that content can be checked, and allows those following the competition (including those participating) to keep track of scores effectively. This round has seen discussion about various aspects of the WikiCup's rules and procedures. Those interested in the competition can be assured that formal discussions about how next year's competition will work will be opened shortly, and all are welcome to voice their views then. 2010 Haiti earthquake

Hi. Just to let you know that I feel it was unwise to remove the proposed "merge" tag from the above article, and set up the redirect that you did on Romel Joseph Day. Although I think we're on the same side here, I'd prefer to wait a little longer before taking action. I don't expect that the merge will add more than a sentence or two to the main article, but it will allow us to remove the article on Romel Joseph Day, which strikes me as non-notable. However, the "merge" proposal has only been around since May of this year, and neither of these two articles is particularly well-trafficked, so I feel we should wait for about three months before taking action. If there's no substantial input to the discussion on the Talk Page after that time, I feel we could probably then move forward to a merge, combined with an Afd on Romel Joseph Day. Thanks for your message. Sorry my edit summary was a bit snarky, I do that sometimes. The article is as bad as it gets for red links. It's almost as if someone went around just randomly putting brackets around groups of words. I'm not sure how to fix. Replace reds with italics, bolds or just remove the brackets and leave as plain text. Usually I try to fix the reds by finding the article with the right name, but here it's just so blatant. I don't know what "disagreement" there would be - until this is resolved it has to have a maintenance tag flagging the issue. SlightSmile 23:30, 17 July 2014 (UTC)

James, I have seen a few of your GA reviews, and I'm a bit concerned: they are very short, very quickly done, and for instance lack the usual checklist for the GA criteria. I'll mention, in fairness, that what got this started was the GA review for De Akkermolen, which is short, on a very short article that hardly uses all the sources it probably should use. Thank you. I tend to review articles by reading through them and making some changes myself and suggesting others on the talk page. Sometimes this generates a short list of points, and sometimes a much longer one, such as at Talk:Debian/GA2. They are not done especially quickly or taken lightly, and although I don't use the checklist many reviewers do, I don't feel it is necessary if you can point to the specific issues. There aren't any English sources for De Akkermolen so far as I can tell, and despite its shortness I think it does just meet the criteria. James^x12345 22:19, 26 July 2014 (UTC)

I came to say I had to fail Talk:Loch Morar/GA1, and Drmies' comments give me extra cause for concern. I think the basic problem is just having an article free of spelling and grammar problems, that has inline citations, isn't all that a GA requires. It needs to be "broad in its coverage" and "focused", which means the choice of material is important, whether or not you have sources to hand. For this reason, The Beatles (album) has only passed GA recently, and Bootleg recording has still got a long way to go - in both cases I believed there was information that should be in the article, but I couldn't immediately find a source for. New huggle 3.1 is going to be released soon

Hi Jamesx12345, we are to release a new major version of huggle, but we did receive almost no feedback from our beta testing team, which you are a part of (see https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Huggle/Members). It would be of a great help if you could download it (if you have windows, all you need to do is getting http://tools.wmflabs.org/huggle/files/huggle3.1.0beta.exe and putting it to a folder where you have installed huggle) and test it. You can always get a help with making it @ #huggle ^connect!

Major changes:

• Multisite support - you can now log in to unlimited number of wikis in 1 huggle session and get a huge queue of all edits made to these wikis. This is good for smaller projects which gets overlooked often.
• Ranged diffs - you can select multiple revisions and get a huge diff that display all changes done to them.
• Fixes of most of bug reports we had so far

VisualEditor newsletter—July and August 2014

The VisualEditor team is currently working mostly to fix bugs, improve performance, reduce technical debt, and other infrastructure needs. You can find on Mediawiki.org weekly updates detailing recent work.

Dialog boxes in VisualEditor have been re-designed to use action words instead of icons. This has increased the number of items that need to be translated. The user guide is also being updated.

The biggest visible change since the last newsletter was to the dialog boxes. The design for each dialog box and window was simplified. The most commonly needed buttons are now at the top. Based on user feedback, the buttons are now labeled with simple words (like "Cancel" or "Done") instead of potentially confusing icons (like "<" or "X"). Many of the buttons to edit links, images, and other items now also show the linked page, image name, or other useful information when you click on them.

• Hidden HTML comments (notes visible to editors, but not to readers) can now be read, edited, inserted, and removed. A small icon (a white exclamation mark on a dot) marks the location of each comments. You can click on the icon to see the comment.
• You can now drag and drop text and templates as well as images. A new placement line makes it much easier to see where you are dropping the item. Images can no longer be dropped into the middle of paragraphs.
• All references and footnotes (<ref> tags) are now made through the "⧼visualeditor-toolbar-cite-label⧽" menu, including the "⧼visualeditor-dialogbutton-reference-tooltip⧽" (manual formatting) footnotes and the ability to re-use an existing citation, both of which were previously accessible only through the "Insert" menu. The "⧼visualeditor-dialogbutton-referencelist-tooltip⧽" is still added via the "Insert" menu.
• When you add an image or other media file, you are now prompted to add an image caption immediately. You can also replace an image whilst keeping the original caption and other settings.
• All tablet users visiting the mobile web version of Wikipedias will be able to opt-in to a version of VisualEditor from 14 August. You can test the new tool by choosing the beta version of the mobile view in the Settings menu.
• The link tool has a new "Open" button that will open a linked page in another tab so you can make sure a link is the right one.
• The "Cancel" button in the toolbar has been removed based on user testing. To cancel any edit, you can leave the page by clicking the Read tab, the back button in your browser, or closing the browser window without saving your changes.

Looking ahead

The team posts details about planned work on the VisualEditor roadmap. The VisualEditor team plans to add auto-fill features for citations soon. Your ideas about making referencing quick and easy are still wanted. Support for upright image sizes is being developed. The designers are also working on support for adding rows and columns to tables. Work to support Internet Explorer is ongoing.

I opened a WP:GAR at Talk:Victoria Beckham/GA1, but nobody responded to it - although there have admittedly been some significant improvements since then. The article is still quite some way from GA status, having never been properly reviewed in the first place, but if you can continue to improve it then it a fresh GA review will be in order. Delisting good articles

Hello. When delisting good articles, please remove them from the GA lists. For example, Victoria Beckham should be removed from WP:GA/MU (the very last group). Also don't forget to update the count. Many editors forget to do this when closing the reassessment, and it's pretty treadmill task to search them on my own. WikiCup 2014 August newsletter

The final of the 2014 WikiCup begins in a few short minutes! Our eight finalists are listed below, along with their placement in Round 4:

1. Godot13 (submissions), a WikiCup newcomer, finished top of Pool A and was the round's highest scorer. Godot is a featured picture specialist, claiming large numbers of points due to high-quality scans of historical documents, especially banknotes.
2. Casliber (submissions) is a WikiCup veteran, having been a finalist every year since 2010. In the semi-final, he was Pool B's highest scorer. Cas's points primarily come from articles on the natural sciences.
3. Czar (submissions) was Pool A's runner-up. Czar's points come mostly from content related to independent video games, including both articles and topics.
4. Adam Cuerden (submissions) was Pool B's runner-up. Another featured picture specialist, many of Adam's points come from the restoration of historical media. He has been a WikiCup finalist twice before.
5. Cwmhiraeth (submissions) won the WikiCup in 2012 and 2013, and enters this final as the first wildcard. She focuses on biology-related articles, and has worked on several high-importance articles.
6. 12george1 (submissions) is the second wildcard. George's points come primarily from meteorology-related articles. This year and last year, George was the first person in the competition to score.
7. Sturmvogel 66 (submissions), the third wildcard, was the 2010 champion and a finalist last year. His writes mostly on military history, especially naval history.
8. Bloom6132 (submissions), the fourth and final wildcard, has participated in previous WikiCups, but not reached any finals. Bloom's points are mostly thanks to did you knows, featured lists and good articles related to sport and national symbols.

We say goodbye to this year's semi-finalists. Matty.007 (submissions), ThaddeusB (submissions), WikiRedactor (submissions), Figureskatingfan (submissions), Yellow Evan (submissions), Prism (submissions) and Cloudz679 (submissions) have all performed well to reach this stage of the competition, and we hope they will all be joining us again next year.

There are two upcoming competitions unrelated to the WikiCup which may be of interest to those who receive this newsletter. The Stub Contest will run through September, and revolves around expanding stub articles, especially high-importance or old stubs. In addition, a proposal has been made for a new competition, the GA Cup, which the organisers plan to run next year. This competition is based on the WikiCup and aims to reduce the good article review backlog.

There is now a thread for brainstorming on how next year's WikiCup competition should work. Please come along and share your thoughts- What works? What doesn't work? What needs changing? Signups for next year's competition will be open soon; we will be in touch. If, at this stage of the competition, you are keen to help the with the WikiCup, please do what you can to participate in review processes. Our finalists will find things much easier if the backlogs at good article candidates, featured article candidates, featured picture candidates and the rest are kept at a minimum.
