March 2020 edit

Hello James Cooper Edge. The nature of your edits gives the impression you have an undisclosed financial stake in promoting a topic, but you have not complied with Wikipedia's mandatory paid editing disclosure requirements. Paid advocacy is a category of conflict of interest (COI) editing that involves being compensated by a person, group, company or organization to use Wikipedia to promote their interests. Undisclosed paid advocacy is prohibited by our policies on neutral point of view and what Wikipedia is not, and is an especially egregious type of COI; the Wikimedia Foundation regards it as a "black hat" practice akin to black-hat SEO.

Paid advocates are very strongly discouraged from direct article editing, and should instead propose changes on the talk page of the article in question if an article exists, and if it does not, from attempting to write an article at all. At best, any proposed article creation should be submitted through the articles for creation process, rather than directly.

Regardless, if you are receiving or expect to receive compensation for your edits, broadly construed, you are required by the Wikimedia Terms of Use to disclose your employer, client and affiliation. You can post such a mandatory disclosure to your user page at User:James Cooper Edge. The template {{Paid}} can be used for this purpose – e.g. in the form: {{paid|user=James Cooper Edge|employer=InsertName|client=InsertName}}. If I am mistaken – you are not being directly or indirectly compensated for your edits – please state that in response to this message. Otherwise, please provide the required disclosure. In either case, do not edit further until you answer this message. creffett (talk) 15:20, 23 March 2020 (UTC)Reply

You have been blocked indefinitely from editing for advertising or promotion. From your contributions, this seems to be your only purpose.
If you think there are good reasons for being unblocked, please read the guide to appealing blocks, then add the following text below the block notice on your talk page: {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}.  MER-C 19:17, 23 March 2020 (UTC)Reply

Request reason:

Kindly accept this request to unblock my account. I fully understand the concerns of the editor who blocked me. My article was never meant to be promotional, advertising or spammy in nature. Please note that this is my very first article and I was yet to get familiar with the accepted format or style of writing. Please withdraw your decision to block this account indefinitely as I am confident that I can resubmit my article by adhering to the Wikipedian standards of content. Please approve this request. James Cooper Edge (talk) 13:20, 24 March 2020 (UTC)Reply

Decline reason:

No. The article was clearly promotional. Additionally, you have not addressed your violations of WP:COI and/or WP:PAID. You will not be unblocked to write about The Pacific Gaming Private Limited, or any related topics. Yamla (talk) 13:42, 24 March 2020 (UTC)Reply

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

@MER-C: Hi MER-C This is a kind request to unblock this account. Please note that this is the only account I own and is my very first experience with Wikipedia. I am working for my client called " The Pacific Gaming Private Limited" and I want to write an article as part of my job responsibilities. I have absolutely no qualms in revealing what I want and it is just that I was not familiar with the guidelines. I have now read and understood the guidelines regarding advertising, paid editing disclosure & COI. I hereby promise to write in a neutral fashion and not indulge in any black-hat practices. MER-C, please help. It seems only you can help to get this account unblocked. This is important for me. Please give this account a second chance and am ready to give you any further clarifications that you want.James Cooper Edge (talk) 18:27, 26 March 2020 (UTC)Reply

I repeat, you will not be unblocked to write about The Pacific Gaming Private Limited, or any related topics, and to allow you to do so is contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia. We don't want to know what your employer has to say about themselves and neither do our readers. MER-C 18:58, 26 March 2020 (UTC)Reply

@Creffett: Hi Creffett As per your instructions, I did post a paid template to disclose my employer and client details. Can I place an unblock request for the second time? I clearly do not understand why my account is still blocked even after posting the paid template on my user page as per the Wikipedia Guidelines. Can I write about the same article if my account is unblocked? I want to publish an article on behalf of my client. What should I do? Please help me.--James Cooper Edge (talk) 07:48, 31 March 2020 (UTC)Reply

We aren't interested in what your client wishes to say about themselves. You won't be unblocked to promote your clients. If you wish to write about subject areas for which you have no conflict of interest, tell us what those subject areas are. Again, though, you won't be unblocked to continue promoting The Pacific Gaming Private Limited. If this is your goal, this is the end of the line for you. --Yamla (talk) 10:28, 31 March 2020 (UTC)Reply
