Appalachian English boxes

Hi, I reverted your deletion of the Babel boxes for Appalachian English. The boxes are meant to represent a specific dialect spoken in the Appalachians, but not the speech of everyone who lives in the Appalachian region of the United States. The text is spelled in the manner used by some professional linguists, who take the dialect seriously. You can find samples here at the website of the LOWLANDS-L mailing list (devoted to several dialects of English and other Germanic languages).

The spelling used in the Appalachian boxes is not intended to be insulting. The user who made those boxes (if you're referring to the Appalachian ones) has not been banned. I know because I'm that user. My motive was and is to promote interest in the dialect and challenge stereotypes of dialect speakers as ignorant, inbred hillbillies.

The userboxes try to represent Appalachian English instead of standard American English because that is how the "Babel boxes" normally work. Where the words are "spelled wrong," the change is meant to suggest how the sound of the spoken language differs from that of standard English. It would be more accurate of course to use the International Phonetic Alphabet, but most Wikipedia users can’t read those symbols. I have trouble with them too. So I modeled the spelling on the text at the Lowlands-L website I linked to above. That site was created by linguists who take the dialect seriously and regard Appalachian culture as, in their words, "a treasure trove." That is my opinion as well.

Using "tawk" in connection with Appalachian English does not imply that only Appalachian English speakers pronounce the word that way. And while dialect has often been represented in print in a demeaning way, or with a demeaning intent, that does not mean that all attempts to represent dialect in print are demeaning.

I'm sure the boxes can be improved, and other editors have stepped in to make improvements from time to time. You mention the spelling of "Inglish," and I wouldn't have a problem with changing it to standard "English" if it seems like an unnecesary misspelling. I used "Inglish" because that's how the Lowlands-L contributor spelled the word. I think the intent was to show that the word is pronounced with the short i of "sing," not the short e of "men" — i.e., not the way most English pronounce the word "English." I think every American dialect of English pronounces the word "English" this way (with "ing"), so maybe the initial I is unnecessary.

I guess it's really a question of whether British English or American English is considered the "standard." If it's British, "Inglish" makes sense; if American, not so much. — ℜob C. alias ÀLAROB 18:38, 9 March 2013 (UTC)

Hi BigPimpinBrah. You recently moved the page Asante Africa Foundation from AFC after reviewing - however, it only took me a few moments to locate numerous copyright violations within the article, and I had to remove most of the text as a result. Please do be wary of admitting new articles to mainspace without checking for copyright issues first - running the page through Earwig's Copyvio Detector before taking it "live" is a very good idea - at the very least, you should Google a few chunks to see what comes up. Spurious rejection notice not appreciated

I recently did a request for creation on a article on Liddel Strength; this article was accepted on 26 March 2013 by reviewer The Anonymouse. You have subsequently (10 April 2013) posted on my talk page a message notifying me that the article has been rejected by you. On investigation, your grounds for rejection are that the article is already there and accepted; subsequent to your rejection of my RfC the earlier acceptance of it by another reviewer remains in force, and your 'rejection' has no practical effect

• one review is quite enough thank you
• if you do find yourself duplicating the review work of somebody else, then there must be a better way of resolving this than by sending a rejection message postdating an acceptance message for the same article, especially when it is the acceptance notice that remains effective.

I suggest you ask around as to what the correct sign-off procedure is in these circumstances, but surely it would be preferable to back out quietly, rather than sending misleading messages to the article author; if rejection carries a risk of hacking off authors, the same applies with greater force to spurious rejection. cypenamine correction

Hello I keep trying to correct a statement on this page which says "the trans isomer is more active than the racemate" this should be deleted as it makes no sense at all (I KNOW WHAT I`AM TALKING ABOUT)!!. But it keeps getting changed back, WHY??? I am not a registered user and do not know the ins and outs of Wikipedia etiquette. I am just trying to be helpful here!! If this statement is actually in the literature reference I would be very surprised and it would still not make it correct. I have thus started a new talk section about it.

Ponaganset High School Page

Why do you keep deleting the reputable revisions that I make to the Ponaganset High School page. Everything that I publish is real, since I used to attend the school, and I know many people that attend it now. I took what I added directly from the pages which were sourced. I do not understand the need to delete the Alternative Energy section, or the Capital Improvement plan section. It is not sensible to remove them, since they pertain to the school, and the information is not promotional in the least. And I merely moved the information regarding the music program from one website to Wikipedia, and I do not see how it should be regarded as "blatantly promotional". And on another note: the sections, such as administration, the music program, and distinguished teachers were fine for numerous months. You are the only person on Wikipedia that did not like and took offense to them. You must either be a depressed, old man, or you have something against Ponaganset High School. Saurashtra region

It is not at all possible to trace the communities that have migrated or originated from Saurashtra. I know this because I am from Saurashtra. I have seen a lot more communities than described here, some of them I don't even know the names. Also, the communities described here are not actually the communities, these are surnames that are added as communities. If we were to write the surnames then these article would never end. And it would inappropriate to describe this in article where a person comes to find about Saurashtra and not the merely surnames of people. Hope you would understand. Hello this is in reference to "Articles for creation/Jono Grant (Composer)" You rejected the article saying "This submission is not adequately supported by reliable sources. Reliable sources are required so that information can be verified"

Everything in this article is 100% legit, I'm happy to go through and cite anything in the article but you don't say where the problems are. How do I correct it if I don't know what the exact issues are?

Is there a way to be more specific about your concerns? It's true I'm a beginner at this but I did work hard on it, please consider that.

• Hi and thanks for the question. The only real problem with the current submission is it does not cite any reliable sources (IMDB is not usually reckoned a reliable source). Since on Wikipedia we limit ourselves to subjects of note, we require reliable sources to prove whether or not a subject is notable enough for inclusion in the encyclopedia. For example if the person in question was the subject of a newspaper or magazine article, you could use those sources to prove the subject's notability. You can also read WP:IRS to find out more about what sources would be good to use. --BigPimpinBrah (talk) 19:57, 3 December 2013 (UTC)

@Andrevan: Chill, the username obviously uses several layers of slang so before you unilaterally decide what the definition is, the guy gets to have a shot at explaining himself. If you are so concerned, open a RFC on his username. Swinging the big hammer of 'cratship around isn't very becoming of the level headedness we expect of 'crats. The community is capable of solving this one, you should back off and wait for it to do so and then you can use your rename tool, as your elevated rights are purposed for, when the time comes.
