German translations

A while back I started to translate VfB Stuttgart, which is an FA on de:, but decided my German wasn't up to it. The German FA process doesn't require the sheer number of inline references that our FA process does, but I think a translation of Stuttgart would get GA fairly easily. Another interesting one would be de:Fußball im Ruhrgebiet, FA there but doesn't have an article here. I keep saying I'll take up German lessons again, but I've been saying that for 3 or 4 years without actually doing so :) Oldelpaso (talk) 19:29, 14 December 2007 (UTC)

The Stuttgart article on the German wiki seems too long to me. They don't seem to have a good way of splitting out content like on the English wiki. Anyway, I'll have a bash at some translating some of it when I get chance, but it might not be until the New Year... Chris Charsley

Hi, I noticed your edit summary of "minor WP:FOOTY fixes, Replaced: image =" on Chris Charsley. Surely there's no project requirement to include the replacement image thingy? thought that sort of thing was down to individual taste. Also, do your books tell you exactly when Mr Charsley played for/was registered with your lot? I've done my best with the chronology of it but am not entirely convinced. Fair point. I've been using the WP:AutoWikiBrowser to make some minor style edits related to the Player infoboxes, principally that (loan) should not be italicized, and that the endash should be used to separate years. These are as per the Wikipedia Football Project Player Manual of Style. I'd added the image replacement thing as an afterthought, but can see that this could be misleading in the cases where that was the only change made. From now on I will either improve the edit summary or carry out the edits separately. Charsley seems well covered in the WBA Who's Who, so I'll see what I can add. --Jameboy (talk) 16:00, 5 January 2008 (UTC)

Ron(nie) Fenton

Hi, came across this Ron Fenton stub earlier, added an infobox and some cats, but not added any real detail. I always thought of him as a Ronnie rather than a Ron, though. Wallwork

No worries. I saw your message somewhere else, and thought I'd just check to see what I could add re:his Bradford career. Looking through it, it looks mostly pretty good. The first necessary changes I noticed would be to amend / cite the following section (particularly the first par).

The following season was not as successful for West Bromwich Albion, but Wallwork still maintained his high standards. In the beginning of the season, Wallwork's form dipped a bit, but then returned to his high standards set in the previous year. He still kept his starting place in the team, as more midfielders came in, such as Nigel Quashie, Junichi Inamoto, Ján Kozák and Diomansy Kamara. However Albion were relegated to The Championship. Although the club were relegated, Wallwork remained part of the West Brom team aiming to bounce back to the Premier League.

With Bryan Robson's dismissal and the subsequent appointment of Tony Mowbray as his successor, Wallwork's days as an Albion player seemed numbered. He joined Barnsley on loan on November 22, 2006 until January 1, 2007 though West Bromwich Albion had a recall option after 28 days.[15] He officially returned on January 1, but was unable to play for some time due to injuries sustained during a stabbing incident.

Stats

It looks fine to me. It's just one of those things you can't help if he's had so many loan spells. The one suggestion I would make is if you can align the bold totals with the rest of the data.

As for Antwerp, I'm not sure where to find the data. I've had a look on google and am struggling but I will continue to look. They must exist somewhere, even if it's in the Belgian equivalent of Rothmans!! Peanut4 (talk) 19:12, 27 January 2008 (UTC)

Just re-read your message. I guess the 6-0 game was the friendly. According to that same site, Standard Wetteren were in Third Level (Derde Klasse) and Antwerp in Second Level (Tweede Klasse) so that would probably make sense. Peanut4 (talk) 21:55, 27 January 2008 (UTC)

Hazel

I've double-checked my source about Alfred Hazel and that's exactly what it says - the article is written by a Principal of Jesus College about one of his predecessors, so I would have thought it was reliable. However, I know nothing else about his football career: he doesn't have an entry in the Oxford Dictionary of National Biography, nor an obituary in The Times to go by (nor does a Times database search for "Albion AND Hazel" throw up anything); a search in the Guardian archive gives an obituary, but no mention of a footballing career therein. So I'll bow to your superior sources! I wonder whether it's either a college story that has improved with the telling over the years (given that he was from West Brom), or whether WBA has been substituted for some lesser club... Banner shells

It is completely and utterly down to personal preference. Given that page is on my watchlist, I use the banner shell because I find it more accessible to the naked eye. You can revert it if you want, as it is down to personal preference. I think the guideline is: Do not change to a different version from an established version, without discussion. Certain user

No worries at all. He edits a couple of players on my watchlist so I first spotted them there. When I realised there were scores of them lying around, I've tried to revert his edits to bring into line with policy. I think part of the problem is some articles have it in italics. I've done a few but it's a huge job to bring all into line. I'll probably gradually do it over time!!

Though I agree I reckon he may be trying to make a point, especially when he changed Wikipedia:WikiProject Football/Players yesterday to back that very point up. Peanut4 (talk) 13:28, 20 January 2008 (UTC)

Morning! Thanks for your support. I hope you don't mind but I'll hide away the comments which have been resolved so neaten the FAC up a bit. One thing, getting a review from outside WP:FOOTBALL would be a great idea but these FACs don't seem to attract a lot of attention. They're listed with all the others so it's not like we're hiding them from anyone. Sometimes you get a "neutral" passer-by which is always very handy but people do seem to stick to what they (think they) know at FAC! Cheers again. BD-SORT

Hi, I hadn't come across it either before its use on Garry Pendrey came up on my watchlist, but I was uncomfortable about it for two reasons. One, replacing the magic word DEFAULTSORT, which works for catsorting any article, by a template specially for biog articles just to avoid writing out a couple of cats, (in my opinion) just adds a unnecessary level of confusion. Two, the talk page had recent comments with concerns as to whether it worked properly, and although I don't know one way or the other whether the concerns are well-founded, I went with the if it wasn't broke, don't fix it approach, hence the unnecessary change edit summary.
