Re: Sheffield United Plate

You make good points. I originally heard about Sheffield United getting a plate for finnishing runners-up on the television show Soccer AM, where they were interviewing someone from Sheffield United (I forget who, though it was probably Neil Warnock). As the interview went on, it was mentioned that the club would be receiving a plate for finishing second. They then said that this was the first time that this had happened.

Reasons for the plate

I suppose that it is nice for their achievement to be recognised. Even the club which wins the playoffs (Watford F.C.) receives a trophy, and previously, the runners-up would receive nothing, even though they finished in a higher place than the team which wins the play-offs. The whole thing is an initiative of Coca-Cola football. When the company started their sponsorship of the football league, names of competitions were changed (division one changed to the championship, for example). This was done, as they aimed to improve the appearance of football at that level. Awarding a plate to the runners-up is the continution of this process. I did think that the runners-up of leagues One and Two would also receive something similar, but this has not come to my attention.

Conclusion

Anyway, I had certainly not seen it happen before, myself. When I added it to the article, there was a separate section for "Blades' firsts", so it seemed fitting that I should add this point to it. I think that it is the first time where a plate has been awarded, with the intention of awarding it to future runners-up, as well. I may have been a bit 'long-winded', but it is complicated to explian. Sorry for not being able to provide any 'solid' evidence, but I couldn't find any. 13756 19:27, 24 May 2006 (UTC)

Isobel Lang

Pascal Zuberbuhler

Its been in several swiss newspapers, as well as being announced by xamax http://www.xamax.ch/ as you can see it is the top story on their official site. Deliberate misspelling

Because naming a bunch of songs by an artist is not as notable as the band's name being a misspelling. I could add the Alabama 3 song "U dont danse 2 tekno anymore" but it's just one song on one album. And it seems like one of those references to things only a few people are aware of but you really like (eg one time when I was new to wikipedia I added a pic to the Walk of Fame page with the Sublime (at the time just about the only thing I listened to) star on the walk. ) I can't explain why people (myself at one time included) do this, but It's one of those identity things... -Indolences 03:34, 23 March 2007 (UTC)

A.F.C.

If you look on the website of the FA (who are the ultimate decider on such matters), they do list AFC clubs at the top alphabetically (see [1] for AFC Bournemouth and [2] for AFC Wimbledon). Similarly, FC United would be under F rather than U. With regards to Danish teams, I guess it depends how they do it over there. I hope this goes some way to settling the matter! Logo

The Alphawiki logo was not a copyright violation. It was similar to that of the football league, but I created it myself, changing the colours and the text. So it was different, and I created it. There was no reason in having it deleted. Eaomatrix 12:41, 5 May 2007 (UTC)

Hi, sorry, your message got hidden by a subsequent one. Have a look at Template_talk:Infobox_Football_biography#Height_template. There is no consensus for using this template in infoboxes. My view is that it should be used as an aid to conversion of units, but as that conversion will not change, the template should not stay inline and should be subst'd. At the moment, subst'ing {{height}} makes things look clunky so I'm compromising by not removing it unless another edit has to be made, but there needs to be consensus to add the use of the template, not remove it. robwingfield ^«T•C» 09:21, 15 June 2007 (UTC)

Image Fair Use

To be honest, the rules keep changing and I'm as confused as anyone is. I uploaded the image but another use made half of the fair use rationale, although I've done some of the points. From now I'll be basing my fair use rationale on this image [[Image:0410258258 jim hunter.jpg]], which has been reviewed and passed. Also check out Wikipedia:Non-free_content if you've not already done so, which is quite confusing and keeps changing. Englishrose 17:02, 18 June 2007 (UTC)

STFC

It was simply because tthe page was long out of date and inaccurate...for example, two players at #6, one called Lee Canoville, another called Lee Tanobille. Lee Canoville left in May. début / debut

Hi. I would have thought that, technically, début should only appear in fr.wikipedia (the French language version), because there is an English language alternative available, as you point out yourself. If there is no alternative, then the accented version obviously must be used. The editor in question is probably trying to ensure correct local usage in articles, therefore converted your spelling into the one more suitable for en.wikipedia language. The same tends to apply for English-based articles preferring (e.g.) "naturalise" to "naturalize", whilst the opposite is true of US-based material. Thanks. Ref ^(chew)(do) 20:43, 29 June 2007 (UTC)

Hi Jameboy, thanks for the expanation. Yes, I see what your'e saying, but I feel that the sociological implications of what at face value, seems to be just a simple chant are enormous and it is far too important to just be plonked into the Millwall article. It says: "You don't like us, well good, we don't want you to, we will abuse you because we have taken enough of your abuse. We will abuse you because you are black, brown, white, have ginger hair, a police woman with big ears and we just feel like doing it because it's fun, and it upsets your lower middle class sensibilities and because you are not a Millwall fan." And much more.

Notability of Midget (band)

Daughter articles such as history, records etc have no effect at all on the main articles rating. York City's hisotry article is in quite a state itself, but the main article is FA. So thats nothing to worry about. Mattythewhite 15:32, 7 August 2007 (UTC)

I tend to remove those 0 because i felt the stats were still aligned without them and it made for an easier read. If they are really necessary, it is the LAST TIME i will remove any. Thanks for the tip, and for the constructive manner in which it was presented. DID YOU KNOW I WAS THREATENED WITH PERMANENT BLOCKING FOR ADDING DEFAMATORY INFO TO AN ARTICLE WHEN ALL I DID WAS CORRECT THE ARTICLE'S POOR ENGLISH AND THE DEFAMATION WAS ALREADY THERE? AND ARTICLES HAVE THEIR OWN EDIT HISTORY!!!

Wow, praise from the Wolves, whatever next! Seriously thankyou for the kind comments, it's nice to be recognised for doing a good job. Once I can get the Albion page up to 'Good article' standard, I would like to do some minor work on the Wolves page (and other Midlands club articles), but to get a great article you probably need someone who is an expert on the club, which I am not. Re:your succession box notes, very well spotted and forgive me for thinking they were are transcluded, quite wrong. So, I've fixed them to at least be consistent with each other. They do still link to sections but I don't think that's a big problem. All Manager->manager and all clubs are formally noted, e.g. with the F.C. etc where relevant. Cheers for the spot!
