Managing a conflict of interest edit

  Hello, JWS89. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about in the page FITEQ, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

  • avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, colleagues, company, organization or competitors;
  • propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (you can use the {{request edit}} template);
  • disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see Wikipedia:Conflict of interest#How to disclose a COI);
  • avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:Spam);
  • do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. signed, Rosguill talk 23:10, 10 March 2020 (UTC)Reply

Request for advice Rosguill edit

Hello Rosguill, I am fairly inexperienced with Wikipedia and was not aware of these rules you list above so thank you for sharing. I was hoping you might be able to provide me with further assistance.

FITEQ is a client and so based on the details above I am conflicted. However, given the growth of teqball (if you are a football fan you may have seen many of the world's most famous stars playing it) it seems appropriate for there to be a FITEQ page, which there isn't currently. I completely understand that the article cannot be too promotional and on reflection, perhaps there were times in the content I posted when there were unnecessary superlatives used; However, by-in-large I think the majority of the content was factual and supported by links to reputable media outlets such as insidethegames.biz and Around the Rings.

I would therefore kindly ask if we could find a solution for some content to be posted don a FITEQ page - recognising that there will be need to be significant modification from what was originally posted? If this is agreeable to you I would be happy to draft a new version without any sense of promotion and purely factual, or provide you with external news sources so you could draft something yourself. Please let me know. Thank you JWS89 (talk) 17:17, 13 March 2020 (UTC)JWS89Reply

The general process for editors with conflict of interest who want to make productive contributions is to start a draft through the Articles for creation process. Normally I would provide a copy of the previous draft of the article that you were working on to touch up and submit through AfC. In this case however, the draft included significant amounts of content copied from copyright protected sources, which is not allowed on Wikipedia, so I unfortunately can't restore the prior draft. signed, Rosguill talk 18:56, 13 March 2020 (UTC)Reply
: Thank you Rosguill for this very useful information. You may have seen that I drafted an updated article which I hope you will agree is factual. Thank you JWS89 (talk) 12:26, 17 March 2020 (UTC)JWS89Reply
