Call for Wikipedians in Residence in Africa edit

Hello,

I hope you are well and thriving!! WikiAfrica has just put out a call for two Wikipedians in Residence. One in Cape Town at WikiAfrica, at the Africa Centre; and the other for WikiAfrica Cameroon in Douala, at doual’art. If you are interested, please contact either Marilyn [marilyn.doualabell doualart.org] for the WikiAfrica Cameroon call or Isla [islahf africacentre.net] for the WikiAfrica position in Cape Town.

If you are not interested in applying, I would be very grateful if you could spread this call far and wide among your networks to ensure that both projects get excellent candidates. Here is the link for the information page: http://www.wikiafrica.net/two-wikipedians-in-residence-for-africa/

Best regards, Islahaddow

African birds edit

Thank you very much for correcting the species and adding useful description to my incorrectly identified and named bird photographs on commons. It is very well appreciated! Baie dankie.   -- ~y (talk) 09:25, 10 April 2013 (UTC)Reply

Glad to hear my meddling was of use. The Spike-heeled Lark photo is a nice one. JMK (talk) 11:00, 10 April 2013 (UTC)Reply

Hi JMK,

Thank you for taking an interest in File:Dendropicos namaquus.jpg. I took this photo in Tshelanyemba, Zimbabwe, which is located in southwestern Zimbabwe near the Botswana border. Please let me know if you have any further questions.

Move of Cooksonia edit

It's done now, but if you had proposed the move of Cooksonia to Cooksonia (plant) on the talk page before doing it, I would have been able to express my opposition. The disambiguation links are overwhelmingly to the plant genus and now need to be restored to where they went before your move. The links make it clear that the primary use in Wikipedia is the plant genus. Peter coxhead (talk) 19:14, 30 April 2013 (UTC)Reply

Apologies. I agree with you now. I somehow thought that the Cooksonia plant was a relatively obscure subject, almost like the butterfly. If there is a way to reverse it I would not object. JMK (talk) 19:26, 30 April 2013 (UTC)Reply
If it can't be reversed I'll start moving the links to save you any trouble. JMK (talk) 19:37, 30 April 2013 (UTC)Reply
It is best to delete the disamb page and then move Cooksonia back. You have my support. JMK (talk) 19:43, 30 April 2013 (UTC)Reply

I see that the move back has now been made. I'm sure that your original change was made in good faith. It's a good idea to check via "What links here" to see how difficult it will be to fix broken links before making such moves. Peter coxhead (talk) 17:59, 2 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

Asplenium platyneuron edit

Hello! I just saw some of your recent edits on African ferns, and I was wondering if there was anything you could add from that perspective about Asplenium platyneuron. It has a rather unusual distribution (North America and South Africa) and as most of my sources are North American, anything to be added from a South African perspective would be appreciated. Sim's "Ferns of South Africa" (1915) is the best I can find online so far, but I thought you might know of something more recent to add. Thanks, Choess (talk) 17:13, 4 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

That is indeed a very interesting species. Wasn't aware of it, and will keep my eye open for it, or any literature. JMK (talk) 19:10, 4 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

New ant task force edit

Hello JMK! I see you have edited a lot of ant-related articles, including the Centromyrmex article. You may be interested in the recently created ant task force. Check out the task force's subpage and see if you're able to help out with any of the open tasks (or add new tasks). I've added a link to an open access article about Centromyrmex to this list. I hope you find it or any of the other links useful, cheers, jonkerztalk 21:53, 4 October 2013 (UTC)Reply
