Welcome, JJ.Johnson! I noticed that you placed a vote on Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/Bushytails. Participation in the community is encouraged, of course, but your status as a brand new user means that your vote might not be counted. Please understand that this is a common practice on Wikipedia, and that it is necessary to prevent deliberate misuse of our voting systems. Straw polls on Wikipedia are meant to measure community consensus, and should not necessarily be taken as literal one-member one-vote voting. However, please do make further contributions to Wikipedia, and express your opinion on policy matters.

Your user page edit

Some comments on your user page are questionable. In particular, these comments there from you:

  • This user is armed with Colt's M-16A2 Assault Rifle and is ready to kill idiot administrators who fuck with him.
  • Users In My Crosshairs ... All have to do with my favorite article. Trespassers will be shot.

These comments go directly against Wikipedia:Ownership of articles and Wikipedia:No personal attacks. Please remove them. Thanks, --Durin 19:03, 26 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

How IP Addresses work edit

Hi there! I saw your vote / comments on User:Bushytails, and it seems that you might be a little confused about how IP addressing works. I wanted to help clarify the matter for you. I see that the IP address in question, User:71.132.159.145, belongs to PacBell DSL, Non-Static. This means that when you connect, every so often, your IP address changes. Usually, every week, month, or, for some, year (altho, if i remember, pacbell refreshed mine almost daily when I had them). This means that that comment about sockpuppets could have, and most likely was, intended for someone else. I do wonder,

  • Did you attempt to contact bushytails, regarding thier comment?
  • Do you really think that threatening people over a wiki article, is appropriate?
  • How would you feel if you ended up on someone elses 'Hit List' (Not implying that you would, but, rather, suggesting that you step back a moment, and think about things).

Anyhow, Drop me a line on my Talk page if you like, or have any questions about the working of TCP/IP, DHCP, IP Addresses, or how any of the above work. I've been a Systems Administrator for a well-known ISP for some time now, and should be able to answer just about anything regarding those topics.

As always, Have a nice day. --VileRage (Talk|Cont) 20:32, 26 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

The "threats" were just jokes. Do you really think anyone on Wikipedia actually has the resources to kill another Wikipedian? Ridiculous. JJ.Johnson 00:03, 27 October 2005 (UTC)Reply
So, waitasec, you're accused of being a sockpuppet of Big.P at some point, and he comes along, and blanks your user page? Strange indeed. I'll revert it for you. --VileRage (Talk|Cont) 06:13, 29 October 2005 (UTC)Reply
OK, rollback isn't working tonight, forget it. ;] --VileRage (Talk|Cont) 06:15, 29 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

Hey there edit

Hi. Would you mind telling me why you said I gave you a Barnstar? Was it a mistake? If not, then you should know that it's highly frowned upon to lie about other user's giving you awards. Thanks!--Sean Black | Talk 21:08, 26 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

Sorry, my mistake. I'll change that. JJ.Johnson 00:03, 27 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

Barn Stars edit

Please remove all of your fraudulent barnstars. The sockpuppets that have awarded them to you are not existing user accounts. This is in violation of WP:SOCK. Karmafist 21:11, 26 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

I'm trying to remove the stuff that these concerned Wikipedians have suggested, but your premature blocking of my account has disabled me from doing so. If you unblock me, I'll make those changes ASAP. JJ.Johnson 00:03, 27 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

Yes, these should be removed, along with the "hit list" on your user page, which violates WP:CIV, among other policies. android79 21:21, 26 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

Yes the barnstars aren't real. Is it OK if I specifically state "The Following Barnstars Are Not Real:"? JJ.Johnson 00:03, 27 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

Things to remove edit

Yes, all the barnstars should be removed. Also, the "Users in My Crosshairs" section titled should at least be reworded if not removed, and the "Trespassers will be shot." comment should be removed as well. I am hoping that JJ.Johnson removes these himself, rather than having them forcibly removed by somebody else which will no doubt breed discontent with JJ.Johnson. Please, give him the opportunity to revise his page per these recommendations. --Durin 22:08, 26 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

I'm trying to remove them, but my address is still blocked. Honestly, this is more annoying that people forcibly removing them.JJ.Johnson 02:15, 27 October 2005 (UTC)Reply
  • It does not appear that you have been blocked by anyone. I would recommend you do not place the barnstars on your user page, even if you not they are not real. There's no policy on this; I'm just recommending you do not. --Durin 03:02, 27 October 2005 (UTC)Reply
Fine I can remove them, no problem. By the way, Karmafist blocked my IP address permanently without much warning. I've tried emailing him to no avail. Can you unblock my IP address so I can edit my page? I don't appreciate Karmafist blocking me so prematurely, especially a permanent block. JJ.Johnson 03:32, 27 October 2005 (UTC)Reply
  • I am not inclined to summarily undo another admin's block. However, if you can indicate what IP it is we are discussing, I can review the decision. --Durin 04:20, 27 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

Userboxes edit

The XP image and IE screenshot are both fair-use images, and can't be used on user pages. I've replaced them with text. If you wish to use a picture, you must use GFDL or other copyleft licenses. Ral315 (talk) 04:09, 27 October 2005 (UTC)Reply
