"NY" for New York

Why bother changing all the wikilinks from New York to NY? That latter is a redirect to the former, so you're just making it less obvious/direct where the link goes for our readers. DMacks (talk) 05:51, 6 August 2008 (UTC)

I would like to second that. The discussion at Talk:New York regarding the move has resulted in no consensus, and therefore no move will be occurring. You'd be benefitting the readers more by turning your efforts in more directly productive directions.--Aervanath lives in the Orphanage 06:31, 6 August 2008 (UTC)

What I see on Talk:New York looks like a hopeless lack of consensus for any page-move. Regardless, I don't see how your change fits into this situation ("NY" doesn't seem to be one of the move/rename options, and seems likely to always point to "New York" whatever that meaning becomes, so it's still not a useful change to make). At a minimum, please remember to use edit-summaries for all edits (not just these) to explain what/why you're making changes. DMacks (talk) 07:13, 6 August 2008 (UTC)

I have reverted the majority of these changes. I just want to tell you that I used the rollback tool solely for speed, but in doing so I am in no way implying that these edits were vandalism, which some take from its use.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 12:14, 6 August 2008 (UTC)

The overwhelming consensus at Wikipedia (WP) and usage outside of WP have "New York" to mean both "New York State" and "NY". Please avoid disambiguating pages to the other ways, or admiistrative actions will have to be taken. Bearian (talk) 19:52, 6 August 2008 (UTC)
