Fair use rationale for File:Washington County ny seal.png

edit

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Washington County ny seal.png. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the file description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. §hepTalk 00:53, 18 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Unreferenced BLPs

edit

Hello JB82! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 4 of the articles that you created are tagged as Unreferenced Biographies of Living Persons. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to ensure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. if you were to bring these articles up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 306 article backlog. Once the articles are adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the list:

  1. Harry Sinden - Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs· FENS · JSTOR · TWL
  2. Margo Harshman - Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs· FENS · JSTOR · TWL
  3. Tim Stauffer - Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs· FENS · JSTOR · TWL

Albany Rewrite

edit

Hi JB82, just so you know, Albany, New York is currently undergoing a rewrite in an effort to bring it to featured article status. I saw you made a few edits. While adding the state/province flags is interesting, I think it is too detailed. It also leads to inconsistency since there is no Bahamian provincial flag to include. But if you think there is a good reason, I'll hear you out. Let me know on the rewrite's talk page. Thanks! upstateNYer 01:56, 16 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of File:Border monument 2008.JPG

edit

A tag has been placed on File:Border monument 2008.JPG requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section I2 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an image page for a missing or corrupt image or an empty image description page for a Commons-hosted image.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag - if no such tag exists then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hangon tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. — Train2104 (talk • contribs • count) 21:14, 11 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

Adding unreferenced entries of former employees to lists containing BLP material

edit

Hello JB82, Please do not add unreferenced names as entries to lists of former employees in articles. Not including this type of material in articles abides by current consensus and is strongly discouraged in our policies and guidelines. The rationales are as follows:

  1. WP:NOT tells us, Wikipedia is "not an indiscriminate collection of information." As that section describes, just because something is true, doesn't necessarily mean the info belongs in Wikipedia.
  2. As per WP:V, we cannot include information in Wikipedia that is not verifiable and sourced.
  3. WP:NLIST tells us that lists included within articles (including people's names) are subject to the same need for references as any other information in the article.
  4. Per WP:BLP, we have to be especially careful about including un-sourced info about living persons.

If you look at articles about companies in general, you will not find mention of previous employees, except in those cases where the employee was particularly notable. Even then, the information is not presented just as a list of names, but is incorporated into the text itself (for example, when a company's article talks about the policies a previous CEO had, or when they mention the discovery/invention of a former engineer/researcher). thanks Deconstructhis (talk) 21:47, 19 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

Proposed deletion of 2004 World Cup of Hockey match stats

edit

The article 2004 World Cup of Hockey match stats has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

per WP:NOTSTATS. This is a list of secondary stats, while the primary article already contains the key statistics from these games.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Resolute 01:25, 8 November 2010 (UTC)Reply
