Welcome to Wikipedia!!!

Hello A mcmurray! Welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. Finally, Please do your best to always fill in the edit summary field. This is considered an important guideline in Wikipedia. Even a short summary is better than no summary. Edit Summary Request

I have noted that you edit without an edit summary. Please do your best to always fill in the summary field. This is considered an important guideline in Wikipedia. Even a short summary is better than no summary. An edit summary is even more important if you delete any text; otherwise, people may think you're being sneaky or even vandalizing. Also, mentioning one change but not another one can be misleading to someone who finds the other one more important; add "and misc." to cover the other change(s). Thanks! -- Kukini 20:33, 3 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Image tagging for Image:Image-RaymondGramSwing.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Image-RaymondGramSwing.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the source and creator of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the source and creator of the image on the image's description page, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided source information for them as well.

Fair use rationale for Image:Warren Rock springs.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Warren Rock springs.jpg. The image description page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Checking in

Looks like you are making good progress in learning the ropes here. Keep up the good work! Kukini 01:50, 13 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

You might want to look at the edits done on this article[2]. You will see how we are creating footnotes. Early on, I often hit "edit this page" to look at how it was done and then didn't save, then copied things others did to the page I wanted to edit. Kukini 05:08, 13 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
Same thing, you just write the reference up beween the < > and the </>. It will be posted in the notes section if you set it up right. Kukini 05:22, 13 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Stub tags

It's not needed to post the normal stub tag, if other stub tags are listed. RobJ1981 06:45, 13 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Table of Contents

You know...I don't know the code for making those appear, disappear, nor changing them. This is a good question to ask of a broader group of wikipedia editors. If I find out myself, I will let you know. Kukini 00:21, 15 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

License tagging for Image:Charles Collingwood murrow's boys.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Charles Collingwood murrow's boys.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

California Gold Rush article

Thanks for your earlier peer review comments about that California Gold Rush article, which were very helpful! If you do have a moment, and could take another look at the article that would be appreciated. There have been a number of useful comments, which have been taken into account, and your further thoughts would be appreciated. Also, if there's a chance that you think that this article might be nominated for Good Article status, and might be able to make that nomination, that would be very much appreciated as well! Linn City, Oregon

You're welcome. I'm a boring writer. That's why I'm good at encyclopedias. :) I hope you liked my edits. I'm kind of obsessive about Oregon community articles so I can't help but mess with every new one I find. Keep up the good work and happy editing! Katr67 21:19, 8 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Bravo on Bridal Veil, Oregon as well. And full disclosure, I stole the flag thing from someone else... Katr67 04:06, 9 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

re: Nein userboxen

Well, I typed out a nice thoughtful critique of your userboxen and just accidentally deleted it. I think it's time to go to bed. I'll try again tomorrow. Happy trails! Katr67 05:38, 13 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

BTW, my userboxen are safely "nestled" in my sandbox. I'm trying to figure out how to get them to line up the way I want. So, your critique: I love the B&W photo in the ghost towns userbox. Very crisp and clear even on my crappy monitor, and conveys very well what "ghost town" is all about. The gray color is a nice touch too. With the other one, with the color photo, it is harder to make out what the photo is unless you click on it. I definitely prefer the B&W one. The Steve Irwin one is hilarious, but be careful flaunting it around Oregon, apparently his wife is from Eugene. ;) I'm not overfond of large, text-filled infoboxes but for sure fix all the redlinks in the green field--the blue and green look nice together, but the red and green definitely clash! There ya go, my two bits. I'll join your ghost towns project as soon as it goes live, especially for the snazzy B&W user box. Happy trails! Katr67 13:12, 19 October 2006 (UTC)Reply
Alas for the B&W photo. The new pic looks good too though. Katr67 18:21, 20 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Welcome to WikiProject Lepidoptera

Hi mcmurray,

Welcome. Do read up the project page. As a wikiproject, we're small and young but I hope that our site resources are of use to you. As an aspiring Wikipedian author on lepidoptera, do feel free to ask us about things that you want help with. We're always looking for contribs on American moths and butterflies. So have fun expanding that or any other area of Wikipedia, AshLin 18:16, 16 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Whitney, Oregon--ghost town

I started a stub article (I want to have an article on every community in List of Registered Historic Places in Oregon before I even think about adding more buildings) if you have any input. A quick google appears to turn up lots of stuff, but I have to go to work. Happy editing! Katr67 12:53, 19 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Danke for the NRHP stub, but...

well, see my note on the project's talk page. Now, if you are one of TPTB, I humbly beg forgiveness and prostate myself... prosti... you know what I mean  ;) --Ebyabe 01:10, 20 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Did a disamb for Magnolia Manor

Hey A! Great work on the articles, first off. Please continue your fine efforts.  :)
I happened to check Magnolia Manor, 'cause I had a feeling. There are, indeed, similarly named places in two other states. I moved your page to Magnolia Manor (Cairo, Illinois), made a disambig page out of the original, and direct linked the Illinois articles that mentioned the manor. Just make sure to check the 'What links here' before creating articles, por favor.
Believe me, I did more than my share of this. I'm realizing how many of the Registered Historic Places in Florida I'm going to have to go back and disambiguate. But that's part of how this project started in the first place.
Keep on keeping on. I've been going the quantity route, madly making stubs. You, however, are aiming for quality. And that's a good thing. :) -Ebyabe 13:07, 20 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Image:Brickhouse2.JPG

Thanks for uploading Image:Brickhouse2.JPG. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Edward 21:13, 25 October 2006
