Thanks for the pix edit

Thanks for the great pictures of Tionesta Creek and Kinzua Creek. I will look in my Pennsylvania Gazetteer of Streams to see if the others are there (have to have at least a 25 square mile watershed to be listed there). If so, I will stub them out. I will put them all on my list to add Geobox River to too. I had looked at the report on the bridge collapse, but read it tonight. A shame really, that the tornado hit when they working on strengthening it... Ruhrfisch ><>°° 02:55, 24 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Top Candidates edit

I was hoping to get some feedback on prospective top candidates before we get to 10500 articles and then take our next top candidates vote when we get to around 11000. Your feedback would be appreciated. TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/tcfkaWCDbwincowtchatlotpsoplrttaDCLaM) 13:10, 24 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

More help needed edit

If you have been following along at WP:FLC#List_of_Chicago_Landmarks you know we need help creating stubs for the List to make it a more useful list and help it achieve WP:FLC status. Since I reminded people of this 7 stubs have been created. We need about 40 more to be safe although we may have a successful candidacy with the article as it stands.

Some of you may also be following the success of WP:CHICOTW at Wikipedia:WikiProject Chicago/COTW/Good Articles. For the last 4 weeks no one has been very active. Thus, I am fearful that Historic Michigan Boulevard District, Harold Washington Cultural Center, Crown Fountain, & Art Institute of Chicago Building will all fail at WP:GAC when their turns come up. Also, Magnificent Mile did not experience the collaborative spirit. Our reputation as a successful collaboration is at stake. In addition to making stubs for the FLC we need your contribution to our collaborations. I am sorry to pull you away from whatever other wikipleasures you may be experiencing, but we need your help. WPChi falling on its face? edit

I hope you have been following along at Wikipedia:Featured_list_candidates#List_of_Chicago_Landmarks. If you have, then you may have noticed that the only drawback that seems to have emerged is the number of redlinks in the list. If you check in at WP:WIAFL this should not be a surprise. There is nothing much else really to complain about, IMO. I have said from the initial CHICOTW nomination. Unfortunately, once we worked on the page we found preponderant redlinks. I have always known this would be a problem and asked for help creating stubs. You may recall I encouraged us to spend an [Wikipedia:WikiProject_Chicago/COTW/History/CLstubification entire extra week creating stubs]. This still fell short of getting the majority of articles linked. I continued to suggest that we attempt to create stubs. This whole effort six weeks ago seems to have brought down WP:CHICOTW. Since this attempt to get people to create redlinks for a budding WP:FL people have stopped participating in the CHICOTW. This week marks the fifth week in a row that there has been no significant editorial contribution during the CHICOTW. I would say I am afraid to lose CHIICOTW support by mentioning this, but since NO ONE has come by to help this week, it could not get any worse. If anyone cares about getting an FL at CHICOTW for our past efforts it might be a good idea to express such concern by creating 5 or so stubs from among the redlinks at List_of_Chicago_Landmarks. Since I have already created about 3 dozen I have mentioned on the discussion that I am standing pat with my contribution to this concern. However, if any of you cares, feel free to make some stubs. The 20 minute stub instructions are still available. If you create any such stubs list them at Wikipedia:WikiProject_Chicago#Newly_Created_Chicago_Related_Pages so that everyone can help you to clean it up. TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/tcfkaWCDbwincowtchatlotpsoplrttaDCLaM) 15:09, 25 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

The higher an article is on the quality scale the better. A few good articles from the list would help, but oddly in this case not as much as several stubs. A few good articles would be welcome. --TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/tcfkaWCDbwincowtchatlotpsoplrttaDCLaM) 20:03, 25 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
We were originally given an indication that we needed a majority, which we have. One WP:FLC voter now seems to feel that we should have at least 70%, which would take another 40-50 articles. --TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/tcfkaWCDbwincowtchatlotpsoplrttaDCLaM) 20:31, 25 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
Hey Ivo, I am having trouble finding a lot of these places in Chicago on the national list. You are better at that. Is there any way you could add to that list maybe the dates to the right of the article so i know if they are on the Nation lists or not? Would make my life much easier in this, otherwise if I can't find them I am only going to stub as a Chicago article. I will work on this tonight when I have more time. Off to work now.--Kranar drogin 11:03, 26 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

You might be able to help me with this. Chicago has American System-Built Houses, while on List of Frank Lloyd Wright works it has American System-Built Home. Are both correct? Would this be easier if you were to stub this out? I think it would be. Here is the Chicago external link [1]. Let me know!--Kranar drogin 02:29, 27 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Featured list for Florida NRHPs, whaddya think? edit

Seeing List of Chicago Landmarks get FA status made me think about something I've been contemplating a while. When you have a chance, could you look at the List of Registered Historic Places in Florida, and toss ideas at me as to how it could become a featured list? Or maybe just a GA list, if that's possible. It is the only state list that's completely blue-linked (well, 98.92736 percent, approximately *hehe*). Plus it's up-to-date as of this June. Yeah, I check the online updates every couple of weeks, to keep the list current.

I admit that the majority of the "articles" are stubs. But the stubs are accurate. If having all the stubs be made into articles would be what it takes, than that's pretty much out. Only b/c it took me something like four months to stub the whole thing, and I was mostly unemployed at the time, so had lotsa free time. The thought of expanding over 1500 stubs... It could be done before the next century, maybe. Anyway, whatever thoughts you have would be appreciated, doncha know. No hurry. :) -Ebyabe 20:09, 30 June 2007 (UTC) Reply

Pier Walk edit

I've seen reference to a "Pier Walk" held in (or built into) DeKalb. What is it, and does it deserve a mention/page? Speciate 23:04, 30 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

It is the only piece of sculpture the Smithsonian Institution feels is worth listing for DeKalb: Pier Walk/Inland Passage. Speciate 21:45, 1 July 2007 (UTC)Reply
Sure, I mean, it's your backyard. One scuplture is listed; it must be notable. The SIRIS database lists 435(!) outdoor sculptures in Chicago, so figuring out which ones are notable is a project of its own. Speciate 22:08, 1 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Ogle County, Illinois edit

I have taken some pictures of western part of the county. I will upload to commons soon, and put to their appropriate pages. I was wondering if you would be able to help with some images of the southeastern part of the county. I don't know if you will have time tomorrow or not. I might try and take a few more, go down and hit Monroe Center, DJ, and SV for township stuff.--Kranar drogin 01:51, 1 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

You will never believe what I found on a random stop along Rt. 2. A plaque about your Banditti! I have uploaded it to the commons, so pick one if you want to include it in your article you created awhile back. I took three just to make sure I got a good one.--Kranar drogin 14:35, 1 July 2007 (UTC)Reply
I found another plaque about the Banditti on a country road! It is on the road, 200 yards south of where the father and son were hung! I will get that up on your page a little later tonight. Me and my buddy plan on making a return trip and asking for permission to walk out to the Boulder (it is in heavy woods with heavy weeds). I am keeping a running list of places here User:Kranar drogin/Ogle County of what needs pics. I got one of Weld Park, but we are going to return to get the mill ruins that are there. There was a party going on there. I really want to get Ogle up to GA, and then MAYBE to FA. This is about the only place I am going to push for FA. I just figure that we need to stub out everything and get pictures first. Maybe you would be able to work on a few things? I will finish putting geoboxes up on all the villages so you have an idea where they are. Also, make sure you check on Google Earth. I am finding GPS coords that are off, and have been correcting them (townships they are putting it appears in the center of the township rather than the building).
On a side note. I will be down in your neck of the woods next weekend. Have a wedding to go to at South Point Center. Have you looked into those Feature Pictures at all on the Commons? I don't know if any of mine are worth doing, but I was just wondering if you have done any. Gotta run, be on later. --Kranar drogin 21:58, 1 July 2007 (UTC)Reply
I think that your article on the Banditti of the Prairie is ready for GA. I am going to upload the new picture in a bit here. I don't think there is one of the group, but I can try and get ahold of the Ogle County Historical Society and see what I can get from them. I think though, that these pictures will suffice.--Kranar drogin 01:36, 2 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

I also think that John Deere House and Shop is getting close to GA. As of right now, we have what Chana School and Ogle County Courthouse as the current Ogle GAs? I would like to have 10 roughly to feature on the actual county page when we go for bigger. Some others that I would like to do are Battle of Stillman's Run, maybe Oregon, a few others. Thoughts?

A Feature Topic would be great to go for. Heck, I see some of them have lists, so all we got to get also is a couple Feature Lists too. Maybe a list of historical sites. Work on tweaking up the current lists we have now, adding pics to the lists. I am going to think about this some more. For now, lets use User:Kranar drogin/Ogle County as our sort of "Project Page", even though I don't want it to be an official project like Illinois or Chicago (there would only be two members! lol).--Kranar drogin 04:14, 2 July 2007 (UTC)Reply
Prolly not, considering some of the cemetaries are old family ones and then we will have to remove them, or make a small blurb up in the list about family cemeteries and just write out what they are, where, and whatnot on the List page. That is why I have held off on their creation for now. Parks, those are going to be talked about in the city articles, such as Rochelle's. That city has a lot of parks. Anyways, I have to head to bed for now. Added some of Ogle's articles to the project page. Talk with you later.--Kranar drogin 04:27, 2 July 2007 (UTC)Reply
Oh, and one very important article should be Byron Nuclear Generating Station, which is only a stub right now.--Kranar drogin 04:29, 2 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Sounds like a plan to me. I really don't know the history of Byron, so I can't comment on how large or small that city article would be.--Kranar drogin 10:49, 2 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

I am getting in touch with the Ogle historical Society, and see if they would be willing to assist with articles and information. I just need to finish stubbing up three county townships (out of 1450ish), and i should be able to focus on Ogle. Once I get the townships done, I will just have precincts, but those can wait. Hope you don't mind!--Kranar drogin 02:39, 3 July 2007 (UTC)Reply
Make me a list on the Ogle project page. I will see what I can get. I have contaced the Trains Project about Rochelle Railroad Park and the Military Project about Battle of Stillman's Run, see if they can assist us a bit if they are going to put their tags on the articles.--Kranar drogin 02:49, 3 July 2007 (UTC)Reply
Yeah, take your time on them. While I am at it, do you have AIM by chance? If you don't, any possibility you could get it? If you do, e-mail me your name. My wife wants me to go hang out with someone tomorrow that is currently heading up the rentavation of the Ogle County Courthouse (I think they are turning it into a museum or something, not sure, maybe an admin area).--Kranar drogin 03:00, 3 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

OH, forgot to tell you. I found an old school called the Stone Hill School, and was built in 1889. It currently sits on private property and is used as a weigh house. My picture didn't turn out all that well, but I will still post it up. Looks like there is rain on the camera for some reason. Oh well.--Kranar drogin 03:04, 3 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

I don't know how many internet citations I am going to find for Joseph Ogle. I have found three pretty good ones so far. Can you find me a good infobox for him? What sections would you say I would need also. I have started splicing up the original article, here is to getting it better!--Kranar drogin 11:26, 3 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Banditti of the Prairie edit

I've been doing pretty good, just got two GAs of my own done, Bruce Willis and Deep Impact (space mission). I'm currently looking over another article to start working on. With a quick glance over the Banditti of the Prairie article, I'd say it shouldn't have any major problems getting passed. There are a few single sentences that are standing alone which should be incorporated into another paragraph or expanded on. Also, in the infobox and in the article you have a wikilink for George Davenport, but not in the intro, so that one could also use one. There's also an extra space between the end of the article and notes that should be removed and if you can, add at least one or two external links. Other than these small issues, I don't think the article should have a problem. Good luck, I hope it passes! --Nehrams2020 18:01, 7 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hey, I hope the wiki and the ghost towns are treating you well. I just noticed a series of changes, some kind of odd, to the Linn City article you started. I reverted all the changes but it looks like some of the info would be good to add if sources can be found. I also updated the link to the source you used, apparently the link was removed because it was dead, but without edit summaries I didn't figure that out until later. Anyway, if you could give my reversion a sanity check, that would be swell. Lately sometimes my edits really upset people so I'm trying to get second opinions on anything controversial. July 2007 GAC backlog elimination drive edit

A new elimination drive of the backlog at Wikipedia:Good article candidates will take place from the month of July through August 12, 2007. There are currently about 130 articles that need to be reviewed right now. If you are interested in helping with the drive, then please visit Wikipedia:Good article candidates backlog elimination drive and record the articles that you have reviewed. Awards will be given based on the number of reviews completed. Since the potential amount of reviewers may significantly increase, please make sure to add :{{GAReview}} underneath the article you are reviewing to ensure that only one person is reviewing each article. Additionally, the GA criteria may have been modified since your last review, so look over the criteria again to help you to determine if a candidate is GA-worthy. If you have any questions about this drive or the review process, leave a message on the drive's talk page. Please help to eradicate the backlog to cut down on the waiting time for articles to be reviewed.

You have received this message either due to your membership with WikiProject: Good Articles and/or your inclusion on the Wikipedia:Good article candidates/List of reviewers. --Nehrams2020 23:20, 10 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

I have noticed some sort of edit expansion and a bit of some delete and reverting going on with Harrisburg, Illinois. I have made comments on the Talk:Harrisburg, Illinois, but figured I would pass it along to you, and I will make a comment to a few other editors from Illinois.--Kranar drogin 01:14, 11 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Regarding SIM, Kepler and TPF edit

Hello there! Sorry it has taken me such a long time to get back to you as I have not noticed the comments you left. I would certainly be interested in collaborating to make these articles better and more informative. --Marsbound2024 07:58, 13 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Wow, amazingly fast reply my friend! Let me know if you'd like to work on any other projects regarding space exploration. I am all for it!  ;) --Marsbound2024 08:31, 13 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

I am certainly active, but I do not edit every day or even every week because I am more preoccupied with reading. However, I quite often correct obvious mistakes and inconsistencies and sometimes add new information that I am presently and acutely aware of. Sorry for my delay by the way... I have been emailing an architectural firm in interests of a job. --Marsbound2024 09:34, 13 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Notes and references edit

It's a question of logic. Without the section labelled as it is (it might be both, but it represents primarily the references), it looks as if there are no references at all. I have no qualm with the section being renamed if a separate references sections crops up at a later date (Although I would dispute the separation was really necessary in e.g. Stephen Wright House). It was an interesting article you wrote, and I remembered from my updating of the Iowa class battleships that we have a National Register of Historical Places project, so I figured I place a banner on it. John S. edit

My apologies for not notifying you of the OTRS issue, I'm just getting used to the system and having to learn some more detail things on Wikipedia. I appreciate that in writing a biographical summary of a part of someone's life there is a limit on what words you can use. However, it was my opinion that the == Early life == section was too close to the cited source. It appeared to be a rearrangement of the same sentences.

You'll note that I didn't delete the article text when I tagged, this was due to the fact that it was only one section that was being complained about. Whilst I can't divulge any details on the OTRS ticket, I can say that some revision may be all that is needed to resolve the issue.

Somewhere over on Wikinews we have a quote you've probably heard, "Copying from one source is plagiarism. Copying from two or more is research." If you have any more issues with the IP editor who blanked the section as a (c)-vio, please engage in discussion and don't just revert.

Sorry if I upset/offended you, I'm - as I said - getting the hang of OTRS and trying to help out. --Brianmc 10:01, 16 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

DYK archive edit

I know you have been pumping out DYKs. You may want to set up an archive like I have at WP:CHICOTW or on my user page for your DYKs. Then you can drop a note at Portal talk:Illinois telling them where to look for them for the Illinois portal.--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/tcfkaWCDbwincowtchatlotpsoplrttaDCLaM) 00:45, 18 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Re: assessments edit

I usually match the class assessment (FA/A/GA/B/start/stub) across all wikiprojects, so that's cool. The importance assessment may vary though, since a city might have a very high importance locally, but for the global WP:CITIES project, it may have a very low importance. Cheers! Well, I've taken the first step to your suggestions. It's in my User:Ebyabe/gloppy7 sandbox. Loads to do, obviously, but at least it's a starting point, doncha know. Don't want too many columns, but am always amenable to suggestions. :) -Ebyabe 20:36, 18 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Oh, and I am thinking of having a different highlight colour for special stuff (NHLs, at least, maybe state parks and historic districts too). -Ebyabe 20:37, 18 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hey! edit

Hi, it's me again. I was wondering, could you make some suggestions on how I could improve on the article Ferrari P4/5, I'd like to get it up to GA status and I doubt there's anyone on Wikipedia better at it than you. Your nomination is valid, but that pic isn't of me. It's of some random person on Flickr. I needed it for the article, and it said public, so I used it. I'll try to get another, though. Ben 00:29, 21 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

DYK edit

I don't know whether the comment on one of your suggestions has been the catalyst for your withdrawal from DYK, but I'd like to say you contributions are valued: yours are some of the few I never bother checking before moving to Next Update, as I know they will always be of high quality. I'd encourage you to come back, and if that comment was the cause, to take it in the spirit I'm sure it was meant, as an opportunity to make the hook more "hooky" rather than a disparagement of your contributions.
