License tagging for Image:Itayi.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Itayi.jpg. Wikipedia gets hundreds of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 19:08, 2 May 2006 (UTC)

Welcome to wikipedia

edit

Hi there, and WELCOME to Wikipedia. We're really glad to have you, and it looks like you have really good knowledge of an area that's crying out for good editors. I hope you'll enjoy editing Wikipedia and continue to do so. Some helpful links:

and

I've read your article Zimbabwe News, but I notice it has been nominated for deletion. This is because it has been written in the form of an essay or like a newspaper editorial. In order to make Wikipedia an encyclopedia, it is intended to be a synthesis of published information, with no original research. This can be pretty frustrating at times!

There is also a guideline that Wikipedia is not a soapbox. This means articles are very different from newspaper editorials. An editorial tells the reader precisely what the editor thinks, and may include recommendations for the future. A WP article should be about what has already happened without any personal comments. Since you've chosen to edit on a controversial topic – politics – you have to be extra careful. So instead of writing, "Mr Jones is fat and stupid", you have to find a published source (website, paper, etc), and write, "The Daily Twaddle stated "Mr Jones is fat and stupid" (February 30, 2020)." There's a good guide to this at Wikipedia:Verifiability.

I really hope you feel able to live with this style, because you obviously have so much to give Wikipedia and it would be awful if your expertise were lost for a minor wrinkle!

Which brings me to the next point! It hasn't happened yet, but any minute now someone will label your page Itayi Garande as "non-notable bio". Because of the problem of vanity pages, WP has guidelines at Wikipedia:Notability (people). So at the very least you'd have to provide references for your achievements (again, newspaper article, etc). (Apologies, you'd already done that.) And it's kinda considered bad form to write your own WP entry. If you're that notable, someone else should value you enough to write about you! (I should add that, by WP guidelines, I and two or three members of my family are notable – but I haven't written articles about us).

On the other hand, everyone is entitled to their very own User Page. Indeed, you're encouraged to have one. Just click on the tab "user page" at the top of this page, type something and hit Save. Sorry to be so verbose, and I hope to see you around! All best wishes, JackyR 01:29, 9 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

Page on yourself

edit

Hi, I've taken the liberty of moving the page you wrote about yourself to your user page, User:Itayig. At Wikipedia, is generally frowned upon to write articles about oneself, but writing about yourself on your user page is acceptable and encouraged! Another problem is your photo, Image:Itayi.jpg. We need to know the copyright status of the image. In general, the copyright of a photograph belongs to the photographer, but if the photographer has released the rights to you, then of course there's no problem. I'll put a tag on it now saying I presume it can licensed under the GNU Free Documentation License, but when you get a chance you should replace that with a more accurate image copyright tag. Thank you for uploading Image:Itayi.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the image. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you created this image yourself, please look at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#For image creators, select one of those tags, and add it to the image. To do that, simply go to Image:Itayi.jpg, click "edit this page", and add the appropriate tag. Be sure to remove the current tag indicating a lack of licensing!

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask me at User talk:Angr or at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. —Angr 19:06, 13 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Welcome to Wikipedia. But…

edit

…I've added the "{{prod}}" template to your user page (User:Itayig), suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. I've explained why in the deletion notice (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy).

Please note that the purpose of a user page is not as personal homepage or used as a general webhosting service, but as way for active editors of Wikipedia to introduce themselves to other editors. If you disagree with the notice, discuss the issues here or on my user talk page. You may remove the deletion notice, and the page will not be deleted for the moment, but note that it may still be sent to Miscellany for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached, or if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria.

If you wish to contribute directly to Wikipedia and your page has already been deleted, you can ask any admin to undelete and restore it: if necessary, leave me a message and I'll pass on your request. To begin editing, here are some pages that you might find helpful:
