Mouse deer edit

Do you want an identification of the animal in your photo, or do you want to upload it to Wikipedia? Please respond on my talkpage. --Μετάknowledgediscuss/deeds 20:50, 5 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

I'd be happy to give it a try. When you click the 'Toolbox' link in the lower lefthand side of the page, you will see the option 'Upload file'. This way, you can put a link to it here. Alternatively, you can click 'E-mail this user' when you are on my talkpage, and then you can email the photo to me. I would prefer the first option, but either one is acceptable. --Μετάknowledgediscuss/deeds 19:58, 12 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

Wow. It's none of the regular species, as far as I can tell. It doesn't look like a mouse deer at all. It doesn't even look much like a muntjac, and it's too small to be a sambar or something (I'm not even sure if sambar live around there). Honestly, if I didn't know it was from Sumatra, I would have said that the coat looks like that of a gazelle, but gazelles don't range east of India.
Sumatra has had terrible deforestation, and so many species have gone extinct, but many new ones have also been discovered (a new muntjac species, for example, was discovered in Sumatra in 2008). My guess is that it's something unusual that modern guidebooks like mine won't have. I'm sorry I couldn't identify it for you. I wish you the best of luck, and if I think of an idea, I'll tell you. --Μετάknowledgediscuss/deeds 18:46, 15 June 2012 (UTC)Reply
Orang pendek territory! How exciting! I've never even seen a clouded leopard or a rhino outside of a zoo. I just thumbed through the books again; my reference guide to the mammals of Africa suggests Eudorcas or Antidorcas, but of course that's impossible, because they don't live in Indonesia. The black sidestripe is very diagnostic; that and the black line running from its eyes down its snout suggests that it is diurnal (to deflect the sun's glare). One idea for how to learn more is to contact some mammologists, who can direct you to better sources. Here are the emails of three mammalogists at UC Berkeley: ondatra@berkeley.edu, ealacey@berkeley.edu, and patton@berkeley.edu. Best of luck, and please let me know if you get it identified! --Μετάknowledgediscuss/deeds 21:38, 15 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

Air carriers edit

I'm sorry, but you can't do an entire article based on your personal knowledge. I'm sure that what you wrote is 100% true, but if we allowed "look, I swear this actually happened, I know it, trust me" as a source, that would lead to lots and lots and lots of abused. I've made your article into a draft; good luck at improving it. DS (talk) 21:07, 21 August 2019 (UTC)Reply
