Welcome!!

Hello, Iqraboy, and welcome to Wikipedia! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. If you need help, please leave me a message. Srose (talk) 17:16, 25 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

  • Haha, I could bake some for you, but I imagine they'd spoil in the mail... or you can look at some other mouthwatering pictures of desserts on the Wikimedia Commons. :) Chips Ahoy is a pretty good brand of chocolate chip cookie, too. :) Srose (talk) 17:21, 25 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
    • Hmm, you live across the ocean, so I don't know if the cookies will last. :P I'm from the United States. Anyway, in response to your message on my talk page, well, I know very little about Islam. I'm a non-denominational Christian (I don't like all of this bickering about who was a virgin and who wasn't and predestination and the Crusades), so I don't know whether the articles on Islamic topics are very good. To get an idea of what Wikipedians consider to be a "good article", look at the featured articles (there's a new one on the front page every day and if you look at WP:FA, there's a list). Looking at some Islam-based articles, I can see how they do get off-topic in parts. The best way to deal with this is to propose a move or split (see Wikipedia:Templates - under Article Templates - for the codes for these) in certain sections. It's also of note that Wikipedia has a cultural bias. Most editors are white, male, between 19-44, upper or middle class with a comfortable job, and from America or England. (I don't fit this norm at all - except the first and last criteria.) Another good thing you can do to effect change would be to post messages on each article's talk page asking for others' opinions. Check out Wikipedia:WikiProject and the associated category of WikiProjects to find out if there's a WikiProject that suits you and your goals here, and join it. Then you can discuss the topics you've mentioned to me with other people who are knowledgable in each area. I did have a Muslim foreign exchange student in my school last year and we were good friends. Through that experience I've come to see that all Muslims are not the enemies of the United States and not all Muslims hate America. Through that experience and a few others, I also learned that Muslims are very kind and wonderful people. Unfortunately, there is a lot of vandalism to articles like "Islam" and "Muhamad". However, reasonable editors like myself and many, many others revert this vandalism immediately. If you see something that seems biased in opposition to Islam or Muslims, you are absolutely encouraged to delete it, and I hope that you will not be offended by it. This vandalism is the work of preteen (and other immature) editors, not established users. I assure you that it is not tolerated. Anyway, if you have any more questions, please contact me! :) Srose (talk) 18:11, 25 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Info on Islamophobic group

edit

Hello,

What follows are the sentiments, expressed in their own words, and in the 'protest signs', of the obscure, very small, but very vocal 'activist group' known as "Protest Warrior".

"What's becoming clear is how the religion of Islam is addicted to war and mayhem. Not a radical minority, not a rogue sect, but its very essence is about submission and sacrifice and proving your worth by worshipping death in this life to gain a paradise of orgies and drunkenness. Their entire history is of warfare, and any accomplishments of their so-called Golden Age has been proven to be merely parasitic off the cultures they've conquered and reduced to dhimmi servitude. That every country under sharia is corrupt, belligerent, desolate and barbaric obviously gives them no pause, except to constantly drive them into further psychotic rage as they refuse to ever accept any responsibility for their conditions. They are akin to the powers in Orwell's 1984; there must always be an enemy. It's no surprise that women are treated like property in these countries as that's the only way Muslim men can feed their egos, to dominate others rather than ever actually produce something."

Their 'protest signs'...

Signs

I thought you might be interested in this group's sentiments. They are currently very actively editing their own article on Wiki and there is a lot of 'group think'. Perhaps you might want to become involved in the editing and discussion process on that page. If you do, please don't vandalize, and try to remain civil. Should you not want to involve youself, please forgive my intrusion.

    • Hello, I'm still working things out, and am not sure how to proceed all of the time. You seem to get into a lot of trouble (from reading your talk page). Is it worth all of your time to edit and er-edit something which is blatantly biased against Islam? Perhaps there are more productive uses of an intelligent person's time. Banging your head against a brick wall jsut gives you a headache. No need to appologize. No intrusion was felt. Iqraboy 12:13, 28 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Use of Allah and God

edit

You make some good arguments for the use of Allah, however, I think it's still the majority that wants to use God. Salam. BhaiSaab talk 18:42, 2 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
