Thanks for uploading Image:WIT Crest.gif. I notice the 'image' page currently specifies that the image is unlicensed for use on Wikipedia and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful.
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Fritz S. (Talk) 14:41, 30 September 2006 (UTC)
WIT
editOne thing I would recommend removal of is "state-funded" as they are as state funded as any British or Irish college/university. Djegan 18:34, 2 December 2006 (UTC)
I can understand the point, but Wiki has a global audience, and the fact the institute is state funded is important to international stakeholders. DBS and Griffith college in Dublin are private and for profit institutions and that is an important part of their identity. I would prefer if it remained

I actually also agree with the first post here. Maybe 'public' is a more suitable word? My perception would be that such an institution is public and thus state funded anyway - unless when it is mentioned explicitly that it is private like Caltech or MIT--Hoschimobi 23:03, 5 November 2007 (UTC)

actually I would prefer a discussion on the WIT pages for stuff dealing with it - but anyway I use your user talk page to reply to your comment "I changed the WIT description back to 'University level'. This is how WIT describes themselves and as WIKI is for a global audience I feel this is the best and fairest description of the Institute. Further on in the WIKI article discusses the upgrading issue in an unbiased manner and it is clear that the institute is not a university. If you feel this is unfair please leave a message for me."
- I do not think your first argument is a very good one. Only because it is called this way at their own webpage is no good reason to copy it into wikipedia! Propaganda? Think of companies, parties etc. Would you copy wordings from Cola Cola or Fianna Fáil just because they are stated on their webpage??? (By the way the WIT webpages are not very representative anyway - um maybe they are :) in a way)
- Why should a global audience misunderstand 'third-level'? Try 'third level education' in search and you will be forwarded to 'Higher education'. Actually ' third-level' could be added in the WIT text for unsure users...

I should make it clear that I work for WIT, its in my profile anyway. Coke and FF are sales organisations, that use marketing/propaganda to further a message. WIT has a social and economic role within a community that is best described to a global audience as university-like. Although the college 'sells' its course, and one of the reason I would like to see it described as a university level institution is that WIKI is used my most of our international students to find out about us. I feel it is both an accurate and better description of the Institute- it awards degrees and PhDs and in some disciplines its research activity is as good as or better than most universities in Ireland (see TSSG for example). The detail about the university application process is in the article and no one is left with any illusion that the Institute is not a university. So although I have strong feelings about this I'll leave it as it stands after the autonomous edit and see if others agree/disagree. ;) Invara 11:03, 9 November 2007 (UTC)
