Speedy deletion nomination of Draft:World Airlines Ski Championships

edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Draft:World Airlines Ski Championships, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, group, product, service, person, or point of view and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. Your account has been blocked indefinitely from editing because of the following problems: the account has been used for advertising or promotion, which is contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia, and your username indicates that the account represents a business, organisation, group, or web site, which is against the username policy.

You may request a change of name and unblock if you intend to make useful contributions other than promoting your business or organization. To do this, first search Special:CentralAuth for available usernames that comply with the username policy. Once you have found an acceptable username, post the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with your new username and replace the text "Your reason here" with your reasons to be unblocked. In your reasons, you must:

  • Disclose any compensation you may receive for your contributions in accordance with the Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure requirement.
  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked.
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
Appeals: If, after reviewing the guide to appealing blocks you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal it by adding the text {{unblock|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your reason here" with the reasons you believe the block was an error, and publish the page. Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 11:48, 22 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

Hi Justlettersandnumbers, hi Sulfurboy!

Explanation regarding my username as well as my Draft (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:World_Airlines_Ski_Championships)

I don't receive any compensation for my contributions on Wikipedia. The International Airlines Ski Federation is a non-profit organization in which I act as Director Social Media & IT Solutions on a voluntary basis. The sole purpose of the created article is to inform interested people that there is a thing such as the World Airlines Ski Championship and describe the event's structure and idea. There was no intention of spam or any other advertisement, I took the "FIS World Ski Championships" as a template and followed the style accordingly. I do apologize if it gave the impression of promotion/spam/advertisement.

I'd be very thankful if you reconcidered my statement and unblock my account. I kindly ask for renaming it to "IASFRob" and hope you will prevent the draft (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:World_Airlines_Ski_Championships) from being deleted.

Also, please let me know in detail which changes need to be made in the article to prevent a speedy deletion.

Thanks for your help & best regards,

Rob

Hi Rob. I don't know whether you've looked at WP:COI, but please confirm that you have read it carefully. I accept that your organisation is a non-profit, and you acting as a volunteer, but you still have a conflict of interest with regards to it, which imposes certain restrictions on the way in which you are expected to edit. You should also read WP:COPYVIO, WP:NOTPROMO, and WP:NORG. Please do so, and then post here to let me know if you would still like to be unblocked, and how you will go about editing if you are unblocked. Thanks GirthSummit (blether) 13:44, 22 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

Hi GirthSummit,

Thanks a lot for your advice & help. I do confirm I have read the German version of WP:COI (Wikipedia:Interessenkonflikt) earlier, but also reviewed the corresponding English version about the Conflict of Interest. As you suggested, I have also studied WP:COPYVIO, WP:NOTPROMO, WP:NORG as well as WP:Notability(sports) and the General Notability Guidelines. I fully understand the COI subject and will ensure to meet the policies by writing and editing on a neutral basis by all means. I will also call in neutral persons to proof-read and to verify that no promotional or advertising intentions are shown before submitting a new draft. According to the Notability Guidelines, I will also provide reliable secondary sources and will not misuse any potential primary sources. To come to a conclusion: I might have been a little bit too quick in my first step and apolozige for this. Having myself familiarized a lot more now with Wikipedia's policies, I kindly request to unblock (and rename) my account to give me the chance to carefully and thoroughly revise my article meeting the mentioned criteria, based on verifiable sources and ensure its right to exist.

Thanks & best regards,

Rob

Requested username:

Request reason:

Name not independent enough, should not contain any connection to the IASF

Decline reason:

Since it seems that you are only interested in editing about your organization, there are no grounds to lift the block. If you want to be a general, individual contributor and edit about topics unrelated to your conflict of interest, please tell what those might be. As noted, different language versions of Wikipedia have different rules; if the German or other versions permit you to edit, you are free to do so there, but here you won't be unblocked for the purpose of telling the world about your organization. I am declining your request. 331dot (talk) 08:56, 27 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

Hello once more, after further reviewing the Wikipedia policies, I have deemed it more appropriate and reasonable to choose a username which does not connect to the subject which could be questionable to other Wikipedia users.

Thanks & regards, Rob International Airlines Ski Federation (talk) 13:22, 23 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

Justlettersandnumbers - would you be comfortable with an unblock based on the undertakings given above?
Rob, do note that different WMF projects (such as German Wikipedia and English Wikipedia) have different policies and guidelines. This is because they are determined locally by each community, rather than imposed by the WMF. It is only the English pages that you should refer to when editing here.
You currently have multiple unblock requests open on this page, and they've got different requested usernames in - please remove the requests that have the names you don't want to use in, leaving only one request with your desired username. Either suggested name would be fine - there's nothing wrong with have the name of your organisation in the username, provided it also contains something to represent you as an individual (WP:ISU). GirthSummit (blether) 14:50, 23 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

Hi GirthSummit, Thanks again for your help. I've deleted the first requests, thus only the name change request for "RobSRoadster" remains. Regards, Rob International Airlines Ski Federation (talk) 16:15, 23 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

International Airlines Ski Federation, Girth Summit, this account is blocked for two reasons, the username and the promotional editing. The first is easily resolved by renaming to the new name the user has chosen. Perhaps I've missed something, but I don't see any recognition of, or determination to avoid, the second problem. Specifically, Rob, I don't see that you have said anything to
  • convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked, or to
  • describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
Also, please note that – as Girth Summit has already said – the guidelines for COI editors on German Wikipedia may be very different from ours. Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 18:57, 23 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

Hi Justlettersandnumbers, hi Girth Summit,

as stated previously, I do understand the reasons for the block and kindly request to be given the chance to edit and amend the article in a neutral and unbiased style, also ensuring to meet the COI guidelines by e.g. consulting other independent individuals to proof-read it before submitting it to be reviewed. As said, I apologize for submitting the article too early - perhaps overhasty - lacking reliable and independent secondary sources (which I will provide from now on) and I also quote again what I've stated earlier:

"As you suggested, I have also studied WP:COPYVIO, WP:NOTPROMO, WP:NORG as well as WP:Notability(sports) and the General Notability Guidelines. Having myself familiarized a lot more now with Wikipedia's policies, I kindly request to unblock (and rename) my account to give me the chance to carefully and thoroughly revise my article meeting the mentioned criteria, based on verifiable sources and ensure its right to exist."

I would be very thankful if you accept my explanation. Thanks and best regards, Rob International Airlines Ski Federation (talk) 19:11, 23 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

I'm sorry, I'm not prepared to unblock this account so that you can use it to promote the interests of your organisation here, as that is not the purpose of this project. I've no objection to your rename request, and no objection if any other admin chooses to unblock (without any further reference to me). Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 11:41, 25 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
Hello again,
I don't know what else to say since I have already stated multiple times that I do not intend to write on a promotional basis and that I do understand the idea of Wikipedia. There is no demand for any sort promotion, the article's sole purpose was to deliver facts about a specific subject. I have stated earlier that I intend to write and edit in a neutral way only without any advertising objectives. International Airlines Ski Federation (talk) 18:52, 25 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

Request reason:

Please see following statement

Decline reason:

Procedural decline only as stale; you may make another request and attempt to be more persuasive; it may help you to identify a specific subject you would edit about. There is no deadline to do that, so take your time. 331dot (talk) 09:47, 2 March 2021 (UTC)Reply

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

Hello 331dot, Thanks for your message and clarification. I find it a bit sad that I'm being imputed with solely pursuing promotional objectives. I am not demanding to unblock the article itself for editing anymore rather than only my user account. I completely refrain from attempting to create the mentioned article (just for the record, it's not the organization rather than a sports event that would have been focussed on - without any commercial interests, solely sharing information which can be verified by reliable secondary sources). However, I would like to concentrate on simpler things including getting familiarized more with Wikipedia for a start. Didn't everyone start small once and deserves a chance? Once again I apologize since I was not aware that trying to create a simple article would cause this kind of consequences. I kindly ask only for my username to be changed so that I can begin concentrating on edits on a much smaller basis, always respecting the policies of course.International Airlines Ski Federation (talk) 16:33, 29 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

What sort of edits would you make, if unblocked? SQLQuery me! 00:00, 9 February 2021 (UTC)Reply
Hi SQL,
As stated previously, I would focus on smaller edits first rather than overrushing it in creating full new articles. I would like to get some practice before concentrating on complete articles as my freetime to do so is pretty limited and my profession is a bit occupying at times. I cannot pinpoint you a particular subject at the time being as I got other things which are keeping be busy at the moment. I would still be thankful if my account can be unblocked sometime in the future whenever convenient. Thanks & regards, RobSRoadster (talk) 20:29, 18 February 2021 (UTC)Reply
