Help with first article

Hello, I recently created my first article, about a manure spill in Illinois related to David Inskeep, and it was marked for speedy deletion. I have multiple sources, both news and government sources, and I would like to know how to improve and keep it on the site, thanks. Primeintellect (talk) 22:54, 16 June 2011 (UTC)

Tagging for deletion

Hello there! You could check out the speedy deletion tags for articles that you think do not match with notability of an article. These are usually best for new articles that do no require debate. If a page becomes argued to be kept, you can nominate the article for deletion, which brings the article open for debate for all users. Hopefully these pages help! --Esanchez(Talk 2 me or Sign here) 22:36, 10 June 2011 (UTC)

That implies that Constantius ever intended Gallus to inherit, which is even less supported. The conventional interpretation of Constantius' actions was that he required assistants.

In any case, heir-apparent is certainly wrong; no nephew will ever be more than heir-presumptive, especially to a married Emperor. Septentrionalis PMAnderson 01:30, 15 June 2011 (UTC)

Paulo Francis

I accept readily that the article needs serious help. Only I would like to add that by "making sense" of it, one must be aware of the fact that it is about an intellectual life that was entirely propelled by controversies, some of then very bitter in a Brazilian context. I ask leave to disagree about your choosing that Francis decided early in life for a "stage" carreer, instead of a "staging" one. A "stage" carreer would be a carreer conncted in some way with the stage - as an actor, director, or anything conncted with theatricals; a "staging" carreer, according to definition [1], would be about "the act, process, or manner of presenting a play on the stage" - which was the meaning intended. Thanks a lotCerme (talk) 15:04, 15 June 2011 (UTC)

P.S. I apologize for myself as well as for the other editors who had a hand in this, but I do not remember having boasted previously about the excellency of the English garb of the article in question. I'm fully aware that there are various grammar and language issues to be solved, but that was one of the reasons behind my asking for editorial assistence, after all.

P.S.2- As to the proeminence of Paschoal Carlos Magno, see [2], pages 75 & 199 Cerme (talk) 21:07, 15 June 2011 (UTC)

Marked as Patrolled

Hi there, Reichsfürst. Just a little request. It seems that Twinkle, quite annoyingly, doesn't mark pages as patrolled even when you tag them for WP:CSD, WP:PROD or WP:AFD. I've just come across an article, that you'd tagged for WP:CSD on the unpatrolled list. I'm sure you already know, but if you scroll down to the bottom of the article, there will be a little link in square brackets that says [mark this page as patrolled]. Clicking that means it'll get taken off the unpatrolled list and so no-one else will come across it on that list. It's not your fault, I know; it's Twinkle's. But until they fix it, it'd be great if you could click that link just before you tag an article. I've marked that one as patrolled. If you didn't find the article via the new pages list then just ignore me; you won't have had the option to mark it as patrolled. Sorry to be a pain. Keep up the good work. Speedy deletion nomination of The Kinky Kwartet

You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles. See the Article Wizard.

Thank you.

A tag has been placed on The Kinky Kwartet, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article seems to be unambiguous advertising that only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become an encyclopedia article. Please read the general criteria for speedy deletion, particularly item G11, as well as the guidelines on spam.

If you can indicate why the subject of this article is not blatant advertising,  . Clicking that button will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the the article's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. You may freely add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would help make it encyclopedic, as well as adding any citations from independent reliable sources to ensure that the article will be verifiable. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Pokemaster9000 (talk) 22:52, 16 June 2011 (UTC) I would like to know what I could change on the page for the Kinky Kwartet to make it more of an encyclopedia entry and less of a promotion so that the page can stay and will not be deleted.

The Kinky Kwartet

Why was the Kinky Kwartet page deleted? I tried to make the page have a more neutral point of view, but it was still deleted. I would like to know how I could change it so that it would be accepted as neutral and not advertisement. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Pokemaster9000 (talkcontribs) 23:22, 16 June 2011 (UTC)

It reads like an advert and you need some reputable sources to establish notability which don't seem to exist. If you recreate the page again it is likely that creation for the page will be blocked so wait until you're sure you have the material. Reichsfürst (talk) 23:25, 16 June 2011 (UTC)
And be careful not to use a newly created account to remove deletion tags. Reichsfürst (talk) 23:25, 16 June 2011 (UTC)

Can you give me a link to the page that only I can view so that I can edit it once I find the reputable sources? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Pokemaster9000 (talkcontribs) 23:26, 16 June 2011 (UTC)

I'm sorry I'm not sure what you mean. And on talk pages sign you comments with four of this symbol ~. Reichsfürst (talk) 23:28, 16 June 2011 (UTC)

Before when my page was deleted, I was able to edit it still on a page that only I could view. How can I now edit my page that recently was deleted because I'm confident that I can find reputable sources, and sorry for not signing my previous posts. Pokemaster9000 (talk) 23:35, 16 June 2011 (UTC)

I'm afraid I'm not sure - try your sandbox somewhere or other? Reichsfürst (talk) 23:36, 16 June 2011 (UTC)

Hallo there

Hallo there Reichsfürst (talk),

thanks for contributing to wikipedia!
I am writing you regarding your recent edit to the Karl Popper article that you motivated with:

A typical apple

"Undid revision 434199413 by Maurice Carbonaro (talk)

I don't think symbolic apples are relevant as this is about the 'very real' world apple rather than symbolic nature."

Would you please bother to speculate more on your rationale?
Thanks for your attention in advance anyway.
Cheers.

Maurice Carbonaro (talk) 09:44, 18 June 2011 (UTC)

Apples and Karl Popper

Popper is using the word 'apples' in no way which depends upon the actual fact that it is an 'apple', it could be a pear or banana. The fact that apples are often used for these kind of examples is neither here nor there, and is certainly not relevant to the page apple (symbolism) which is all about the religious symbolism of the apple, which is not relevant to Popper's example which is talking about falsification. Thus the pipelink is unnecessary as it directs the user to a page which has no bearing upon the original and will not serve to heighten factual understanding of the issue. I hope you agree with my logic, Reichsfürst (talk) 10:09, 18 June 2011 (UTC)

Speculating on apples and epistemology in general

Reputed descendants of Newton's apple tree, at the Cambridge University Botanic Garden and the Instituto Balseiro library garden

Hallo there Reichsfürst (talk),

thanks for accepting my invitation on speculating about your rationale.
I guess it would be important to highlight that falsifiability has been used by Popper as a demarcation problem about how and where to draw the lines around science.
The boundaries are commonly drawn between:
  1. science and non-science,
  2. science and pseudoscience,
  3. science and philosophy and
  4. science and religion.
The concept of falsifiability was made popular by Karl Popper in his philosophical analysis of the scientific method. Popper argued that a hypothesis, proposition, or theory is "scientific" only if it is, among other things, falsifiable.
That is, falsifiability is a necessary (but not sufficient) criterion for scientific ideas. Popper asserted that unfalsifiable statements are non-scientific, although not without relevance.
For example, meta-physical or religious propositions have cultural or spiritual meaning, and the ancient metaphysical and unfalsifiable idea of the existence of atoms has led to corresponding falsifiable modern theories.
A falsifiable theory that has withstood severe scientific testing is said to be corroborated by past experience, though in Popper's view this is not equivalent with confirmation and does not guarantee that the theory is true or even partially true.

Because otherwise that would be dogmatism.
I could temporarly agree with your logic but according to the Godel first incompleteness theorem there are true statements expressible in consistent formal system language that are unprovable.

So I guess we are now left with the following question at the end:

"Who knows what truth exactly is?"

Cheers.

P.S.: Have you noticed how peculiar the cover of this essay is?

Bobby Kimmel

I created an article for Bobby Kimmel, which you tagged for Speedy Deletion while I was in the process of adding references and inline citations. I was also fixing many references in other Wikipedia articles that incorrectly used the name "Bob Kimmel" rather than "Bobby Kimmel"

There are hundreds of other online sources that could be added, and I will add more over time, but I hope you would consider removing the Speedy Deletion tag - or suggest how much more I need to do.

Early Discovery of Rockall

Sir, You write: "This is a hoax - copied and pasted from other pages on Atlantic islands - Rockall was not recorded 4100bc in Spain...". My answer is: It is not meant as a hoax, and it is no hoax. It is not copied and pasted from other pages on Atlantic islands. As you can read the date of discovery was c.4100 BC, and no other Atlantic island was discovered at this particular date. It is my interpretation of a map carved on (the back side of) the stone Tablet of Paredes, Galicia, Spain, that Rockall is indicated there. Madeira is indicated at the front side. This island was discovered slightly earlier, in c.4200 BC. - The islet of Rockall is mentioned in all references, which were included in the article, which you have deleted. Sir, You write: "This is your last warning; the next time you vandalize Wikipedia, as you did at Early Discovery of Rockall, you may be blocked from editing without further notice." I stress here that I did not vandalize Wikipedia, at all. Sir, You add: "The pages you have been created are hoaxes of a particularly malicious kind." I do not agree with this statement, and it is obvious, that it was not a hoax of a particular malicious kind. I am honest in my intentions, and I have the impression that you have not read all the references, which I included in the article. --Dr. R.M. de Jonge (talk) 16:51, 22 June 2011 (UTC)

Speedy tagging

Hello. I'm grateful for your efforts tagging articles, but I'm worried about this tag. The article includes many claims to notability. --Dweller (talk) 15:06, 23 June 2011 (UTC)

I disagree that the article was not suitable for a speedy delete - the first reference is to the band's own page; and every other single reference does not support the statement made but simply is to the website or university referred to (homepage). The article by no means manages to determine its notability and indeed reads as a CV with useless references - clearly a personal attempt to boost his profile.
