Spam in InsWeb edit

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on InsWeb, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because InsWeb is blatant advertising for a company, product, group, service or person that would require a substantial rewrite in order to become an encyclopedia article.

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting InsWeb, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. Orphaned non-free media (Image:InsWeb Logo.JPG) edit

Thanks for uploading Image:InsWeb Logo.JPG. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:18, 8 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Deleted Article, InsWeb edit

Hello Alexf. On Saturday, Sept. 6th, you deleted my entry about the publicly traded company InsWeb (NASDAQ: INSW) because you thought it was blatant advertising. Could you please provide an explanation as to why a brief history of a company, a picture of a corporate building, and a brief explanation of what the company does, is considered advertising? The entry for esurance is very similar; it has a simple description of what the company does, where it is located, its history, etc. and the only references are about its mascot. Thank you in advance for your explanation. Inszo95 (talk) 15:45, 8 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

OK. I checked the other page you mentioned and see the similarities. Even though other companies pages should not count or have bearing, I see your point and reconsidered. The article has been restored and I placed a {{hangon}} tag for you, This will delay the deletion. It is up to you to fix the article. It does read like advertisement. For starters, you should get rid of all the unsourced company praise that is there (at the time of this writing). Good luck. -- Alexf42 16:03, 8 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Notability edit

From your message I realize you didn't bother reading Wikipedia:Notability. The links you provide are not really meaninful. I suggest you try things such as this[1], and work over the notability in the text itself, not just linking. Mariano(t/c) 20:32, 8 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

To state the notability doesn't mean to prove it exists by some links to news sites. I couls write the article on Isaac Newton saying he was an English physicist born at this year, and that's it. I'm not saying why it is notable.
The article on InsWeb only says what it doesn, and when it was founded, but doesn't give any reason of notability. the closest to that is a series of web-awards which themselves, and sorry if I'm wrong, don't look notable at all.
Stating the notability on Newton's article means saying all he did to science, that's what makes him encyclopedic material, and not the part that "Isaac disliked his stepfather", or whether the story with the Apple is real or not.
I know is not that easy for a company, but Wikipedia needs not to hold an article on every single thing in the Universe, that including every 80-employee company on the web, and it's not a companies phone directory; remeber it's an encyclopedia. Mariano(t/c) 07:17, 9 September 2008 (UTC)Reply
