Indian Electricity sector is going through a phase of transition. The consequences for utilities are far-reaching and radical, extending well beyond the immediate interfaces with the current buy/sell and other contractual arrangements. Importantly, the regulations would affect the fundamentals in the sector, which have not been experienced before.

-- The changes will emphasize difference between the skills and capabilities of industry players - not drive everyone towards common standards. -- The changes will open up a plethora of opportunities and also risks - those slow to respond may simply be left behind.

Keeping this in mind, the entities / utilities need to develop robust operational strategies, which would enable them to take advantage of the emerging opportunities and managing the emerging risks. However, it requires a solid understanding of the emerging market structure, access to appropriate information and comprehensive analysis of the events (policies, regulations and market moves).
