re: Insiders' Guides

edit

It was deleted as a blatant copyright violation. The article was a direct copy of [1]. For future reference, if you want to see the deletion reason for a page, the template displayed on non-existent pages has a link to the deletion log. If you click that, you will see the deletion comment for the page. Let me know if you have any more questions. Thanks. -- JLaTondre 11:45, 31 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Thanks JLaTondre, but Martin (The guy who created the page) had my personal permission to use all the text from Insiders' Guides for the wiki page to start with. He put a lot of effort in to this on my behalf so would it be possible to restore the page? I'm not really sure if this was the correct place to respond. Ifibabe 12:58, 31 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Permission needs to come from an email or letter that is associated with that site. Unfortunately, it is too easy for someone simply to claim that they are affiliated with the site and state they give permission when in fact they are making it up (I'm not accusing you of that, it is simply a problem that has occurred before). Also, permission needs to not just say it's okay for Wikipedia to use it, it needs to say it's releasable under the GFDL. Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission has more details.
By the way, as it was, the article was also deletable under CSD Articles #7. It had not details on why the site is notable enough to be included. You should also take a look at WP:WEB and, if you re-create it, make sure to cite any verifiable sources.
Let me know if you have more questions. Thank. -- JLaTondre 14:43, 31 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Right, where do I need to send an email to then? This account's email address is that for the site (although i'm not sure if you can see this). I've looked at the info and we have sources which can prove we're sponsoring the award so obviously would like a wiki page for all bands etc to be able to view their reviews. We are complete beginners and just want to get a page up and running! Thanks Ifibabe 10:36, 3 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Follow the directions at Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission#When permission is confirmed. While that's written as if someone requested permission, it also works for those sending it in themselves. -- JLaTondre 19:23, 3 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Insiders' Guides

edit

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Insiders' Guides, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. If you agree with the deletion of the article, and you are the only person who has made substantial edits to the page, please add {{db-author}} to the top of Insiders' Guides.
