Welcome to Wikipedia! I notice that so far you are only adding links to the Classic Rock Connection. Please don't do this - Wikipedia is not a vehicle for advertising or a mere collection of external links. You are, however, encouraged to add content instead of links to the encyclopedia. See the welcome page to learn more. Thanks. CLW 16:54, 7 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Please stop!

Again, please stop link-spamming articles! Please contribute instead by adding content, not links to the Classic Rock Connection. CLW 17:02, 7 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

I'm not sure how to send a message to User:CLW, so I thought I'd just place it here. I am not "link-spamming", and would never do that. I'm not sure if you have checked out my site (The Classic Rock Connection), but if you have not, I would encourage you to do so. I believe that the information on my site adds significant detail regarding the history of bands of the 1960s, 1970s, and beyond. I also believe that this information is of value to users of Wikipedia. If, after checking out the detail of the information on my site, you do not believe this to be the case, please let me know and I can remove all of my links.

If you browse my site, you will notice that it is pretty clean without a lot of extraneous ads, etc. I hate spamming, and would never do this to someone else or another site. Please let me know if you believe my links do not add value to Wikipedia. Gary S. Hartman, The Classic Rock Connection, icarus17@nxs.net

I believe your links do not add value to Wikipedia. Just adding a link to an external site is linkspamming. Please stop doing that. Now, if your site gave citations for its material, it might be useful to reference, but it would be better if you enhanced content here using the information you have, instead of trying to drive traffic to your site. I have reverted your addition to The Beatles for now. ++Lar: t/c 15:38, 11 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

This is your last warning. The next time you insert a spam link, you will be blocked from editing Wikipedia. --kingboyk 15:45, 11 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Since you feel that way, I will remove all of my links and you can rest assured you won't have to worry about me any more. Please delete my User Account.

It is your call whether to participate here or not. But please remember this: We are building an encyclopedia. All of us are volunteers, freely giving of our time to do something really cool. That means we're all just users, but the people telling you to not put linkspam in are not doing that to be mean, or because it's their personal feeling, they are telling you because that's Wikipedia Policy. We've given you some links to review. You should review them before you decide never to contribute again. We'd love it if you did contribute. Your site shows that you know stuff about bands that's valuable to have in the encyclopedia. But we want it IN the encyclopedia, not linked from it, because WP is not a link farm, it's supposed to be a reference that stands on its own. Consider visiting some of the articles you linkspammed and instead of just removing your link, using info you know about that band or album or whatever to enhance the article. Then use referencing to cite the source (your site).
Now, you've offered to remove all your links, which is a helpful and thoughtful offer, most true vandals just leave their messes for others to clean up, so you're clearly not a vandal. This URL will help you find all of the links you added: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Contributions/Icarus071 (it's a list of all the contributions your userid has made.)
You also say you want your user account deleted. It is policy that accounts are never deleted. The GFDL (the license used here) requires attribution to specific contributors, so we never delete accounts so the attribution stays connected.
Hope that all helps. Others say I am too lenient and explain too much when blocking is what should be done, but I hope that you will reconsider your decision never to contribute again, and instead shape your contributions to be more than linkspam, but instead make contributions that add value to "the greatest encyclopedia mankind has ever known". Best wishes. ++Lar: t/c 18:17, 11 April 2006 (UTC)Reply
