Welcome!

Hello, Ibsensgirl, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Where to ask a question, ask me on my talk page, or place {{helpme}} on your talk page and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions.

The above is of course boilerplate, but I especially want to thank you for your well-sourced additions to Bride kidnapping. I think you have a lot to give to Wikipedia and offer my help to make your induction here as smooth as possible. Again, welcome!  BrainyBabe (talk) 04:31, 26 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Bride kidnapping edit

I'm impressed by the amount you are finding and adding to bride kidnapping! Is this for a college termpaper? How do you have access to so much stuff? BrainyBabe (talk) 07:31, 29 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hi BrainyBabe -- It is just a personal interest of mine. I have access to some of the material because I am a graduate student (thus JSTOR is free for me), but a lot of it comes from publicly accessible sources, such as GoogleBooks, human rights reports, US State Department reports, and news services. (GoogleBooks is one of the reason many of the sources are old anthropology texts -- they have no active copyright, so Google can display them in full text.) I am a historian by training, so I try to be thorough in my citations.

I was not happy with the way the page looked initially. Some of the language seemed biased to me, and without reference to sources. The best way to combat that is to find well-sourced information.

I have a lot more information to still incorporate. Turkey, particular eastern Turkey, has a similar tradition. (No surprise, given proximity to the Caucasus.) There is also a very interesting series of summary articles looking at trends behind bride kidnapping. If you would like me to send you any of these sources, I'm happy to.

Thanks for your excellent editing and support. Best -- Ibsensgirl (talk) 14:26, 29 September 2008 (UTC) IbsensgirlReply

Well, welcome, and I will do my best to help you find your way around Wikipedia. Two little things: when you reply to a thread, use the colon to force a line indent, and when you sign your name, jsut use four tildes -- you don't need to type your name, or it will appear twice (as above). Feel free to ask if there is anything I can do to help. BrainyBabe (talk) 15:27, 29 September 2008 (UTC)Reply
Thank you! I actually do have a question: what do you think needs to be done to this page to improve it above a "start-level" article? Thank you again. Ibsensgirl (talk) 19:47, 29 September 2008 (UTC)Reply
I have to tell you that my broadband access is coming and going, so I might not be able to get back to you for days at a time. However, you can see from my edit history that I've been interested in this article for a long time, so I won't be going away permanently. I can only jope that your patience, access to material, and spare time will last till I am more able to be present! I will answer your substantive question on the article talkpage. Hi Kaldari, Thank you for your invitation. Thank you also, very much, for rating the bride kidnapping page. I was wondering if you'd be able to give us guidance on how you'd like to see the page improve to become better than a B-Class article. Thank you!
