XBRL Questions

Hello and welcome to Wikipedia. I'd like to quote a portion of your comments on my talk page to better address your questions here on your talk page:

Against that background, I would like you, as an XBRL project manager, to consider posting some relevant information on your project in wikipedia. The main goal is to create a catalog or repository of projects by country / region / supply chain, but also industry, academic or other projects and developments are welcomed.

By doing so you will be using a free format, will have full control over material, with easy and timely access for updating. This will result in this very useful information being easily accessible, in a flexible and easily followed format, by the growing number of people interested in XBRL.

There is already some XBRL project-related material available in wikipedia and I would urge you to share the details of your projects in this forum.

This is also a very good exercise when you consider fulfilling the project template located in the official http://www.xbrl.org/ProjectDetails website

The Spanish XBRL Jurisdiction is looking for such information, to be disseminated in LatinAmerica after our translation to Spanish. Our business case is that we are preparing (now with urgency) a world-wide catalogue of XBRL projects, fulfilling a commitment to make a e-learning pilot course for selected stock exchange supervision staff in Latin America (governmental collaboration agreements).

First, I did not delete your articles. I suggested them for deletion to the administrators who found that they violated a number of the rules of this website. The first of which is copyright violation. You can not just copy all of the text from another website and print it on Wikipedia as it appeared that you did for moving the XBRL project info to an article here from XBRL.org.

The second reason is that this information is not what Wikipedia should be used for; in particular, WP is not a repository of project type information unless it is encyclopedic. A good example is the fact that the XBRL article describes what XBRL is, but it is not appropriate to list every project using XBRL (nor could a list like that ever be fully complete).

Finally, I agree with your notion that an open source-style will benefit the goal you are trying to reach. Wikipedia makes its website software available from MediaWiki, the makers of the Wikipedia software. You would need to create your own site and direct XBRL users to that site to make a XBRLwiki basically. But this website is not just a free host for every idea someone has that wants to make use of Wikipedia's software for their own purposes.

Thanks very much for the quick answer. This clarifies my doubts. After some weeks of trial, yesterday I announced the availability of the wikipedia XBRL repository to about 1.000 XBRL practitioners. Bad luck. Probably tomorrow Sunday we will have ready a wiki place to achieve the same goal out of the wikipedia hosting, following your advice. Regards Iboixo 02:03, 26 November 2006 (UTC)

Ok, I'm sorry to hear that but I was only going by the guidelines here when I recommended your pages for deletion review. Once your XBRL wiki site is setup, be sure to come to the XBRL article and add it to the External links. This will help any XBRL users find your new site if they do come to Wikipedia and search for XBRL information.
