Thanks for making an account- assuming you are the previous IP98 from ITN. Bzweebl (talkcontribs) 00:28, 23 May 2012 (UTC)Reply

Hi Bzweebl, thanks for the welcome. Yes, thats me. I finally registered a user which won't get me banned for upsetting people :) --IP98 (talk) 12:16, 23 May 2012 (UTC)Reply

Miami Zombie edit

I see you nominated this article for ITN. Given the opposition I have nominated it for DYK, and listed those editors who contributed what I could see was at least 1000 bytes in the nomination. If you think you have contributed enough to be listed as an author let me know here or on the article talk page and I will add you. μηδείς (talk) 02:42, 3 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

Hi Medeis, that's very kind, but all I did was nominate it, and update a wikilink in the article. Good luck on the DYK nom. --IP98 (talk) 02:47, 3 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

Thank you edit

For your good faith edit on ITN. I have no problem with opposition to the nomination or the proposed change. Very classy of you. μηδείς (talk) 22:30, 14 October 2012 (UTC)Reply

Notice edit

Hi there. I just wanted to offer you some advice - it is prohibited to edit whilst logged out in a way which is intended to deceive the community. In this case, a concern has been raised that you are editing whilst logged out in order to hide the anti-China sentiment described on your user page. If you continue this, you will be blocked from editing. Regards Basalisk inspect damageberate 15:21, 22 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

Hi, thanks for you reply. I was not attempting to deceive anyone, or commit sock puppetry. You'll notice that I did not comment to the same thread while logged in. I made a mistake and I stayed with it. --IP98 (talk) 13:11, 25 December 2012 (UTC)Reply
I mean, I'm pretty open about my anti-china sentiment, and definitely wasn't trying to hide it. There is a fascist empire bent on world domination, I don't see why anyone should pretend they're not Hitler 2.0. --IP98 (talk) 13:16, 25 December 2012 (UTC)Reply
And lastly was some mention made at WP:ANI about this? Because I didn't see a talk page notification for my IP or for my registered user. --IP98 (talk) 13:18, 25 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

dissimulation and revelation of bias edit

I have apologised in a more public place for throwing out COI, which was indeed unjustified.

Nevertheless, I do believe that given your evident default position of opposing anything that is in any way positive about China, it is incumbent on you to declare your prejudices in making your !vote. While I am happy to believe that it is not malevolent or intended to deceive, it still has that effect. Even if it does not meet the first definition of wikt:dissimulation, your conduct does meet the second. Kevin McE (talk) 11:14, 27 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

Hi Kevin. Thanks for your feedback. I don't think I meed the second definition either. I would have opposed that rail line anywhere: in China, India, the United States, because it's not finished. Same with the stabbing. I'm openly hostile to the Chinese empire, but my feelings have no place in the decision making process at ITN. I keep the two separate. You'll notice my comments were "Oppose - line is not finished", and not "Oppose - built with slave labour". I'm certain that the line was build with slave labour, but ultimately that is irrelevant. In 2015 I'll gladly support. Thanks again, I hope that we can continue to work together at ITN. --IP98 (talk) 13:30, 27 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

Collapsing a hostile and unnecessary discussion with The Rambling Man
The following discussion has been closed. Please do not modify it.

It's not about what I find interesting, perhaps you didn't understand what I'd written (if you read it again, you might see that)? If you'd like me to explain further, feel free to let me know. It possibly explains a lot of the misunderstandings lately if you didn't understand what I'd written. I'm happy to explain to you what I meant, sorry if I confused you. The Rambling Man (talk) 22:01, 16 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

I understood perfectly thanks. Either you're watching my userpage or my contribs, either way I don't care. Since you're here you might find my ABP filters useful. --IP98 (talk) 22:10, 16 February 2013 (UTC)Reply
No, I just know that all you do is edit at ITN and have just added a link on your user page which mentions me directly, for some reason. I am concerned you would think it appropriate to name another user in a disingenuous and inaccurately titled link on your userpage. I suggest you remove it. I have no idea what your "ABP filters" are, and have no interest in them. Thanks though. The Rambling Man (talk) 22:22, 16 February 2013 (UTC)Reply
Kindly refer me to the WP policy which forbids such links on a userpage. Thanks. --IP98 (talk) 22:24, 16 February 2013 (UTC)Reply
I didn't mention a policy, you just mentioned "collaboration", so why you have a deceitfully and illogically titled link on your userpage is beyond me. Still, sums it up, doesn't it? Naturally, if WP:ATTACK would cover it if I felt your deceit was more than just an childish outburst. We'll see. Thanks. The Rambling Man (talk) 22:27, 16 February 2013 (UTC)Reply
I've clarified the link. It is not an attack, it is for my reference. I have no intention of removing it. I'm quite tired of this discussion. If you feel I'm in violation of policy, please feel free to file a notice at WP:AN/I. --IP98 (talk) 22:30, 16 February 2013 (UTC)Reply
Yes, thank you for clarifying that "personal opinion" is irrelevant at ITN. Amazing revelation and well worth this utter waste of your and my time. Brilliant. I'll go back to trying to help excellent content for Wikipedia, you carry on doing whatever it is you do at ITN. The Rambling Man (talk) 22:31, 16 February 2013 (UTC)Reply
I don't understand your overt hostility. Your insults have become tiresome. Questioning my intelligence, calling me obtuse, your sarcastic statement "brilliant observation", and now your frustration at a waste of time that you yourself initiated. I would appreciate it if you would not contact me via my user page again. --IP98 (talk) 22:38, 16 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

Userspace edit

Hello. I noticed this page in your userspace and I wondered what it was for? --Dweller (talk) 15:26, 18 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

Hello. I'm cataloging incidents for a possible WP:AN/I. I don't belive we've met before, can I ask how you came across this subpage? Thanks. --IP98 (talk) 16:30, 18 February 2013 (UTC)Reply
Sure. It's not a long way on popups from seeing someone's contribs on one page to curiously looking at what other recent edits they've done.
Back on the main point, I'm sure you're aware that policy allows you very little elbow room for holding on to a page like that - you'll need to post to ANI pretty quickly. --Dweller (talk) 19:23, 18 February 2013 (UTC)Reply
Honestly I'm not aware that policy allows very little elbow room. I was planning to take several more days to collect the information, then reach out to another admin I trust for guidance before proceeding. I'm not sure that general hostility warrants an AN/I and don't want to create a raucous. I also know that AN/I's will quickly fail without adequate supporting evidence. I've made a copy of the data and will work on it in an offline document. When I'm done, I will be re-posting it and requesting guidance. You're free to tag the page for speedy deletion, but not per WP:ATTACK, as it's not a malicious attack page. I believe I'm one of a number of victims of unwarranted harassment, and am in the evidence gathering stage. Now, to my sub point, I would request an explanation of how you became aware of my subpage. It's not linked to my main page; you and I have not interracted in the past, so you've no reason to be watching my contributions list; and I didn't see any notice pasted to your talk page asking you to invesigate. --IP98 (talk) 20:02, 18 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

The policy is at WP:POLEMIC. I'll speedy your page as a user request, as you're requesting me to delete it. Working on things offline seems a sensible idea and thinking carefully about posting at ANI is a really great idea. You can point any admin of your choice at the deleted address and they can read the material you had, if you decide the current content is enough for a 'flavour'.

I'm not sure what to add to what I've already said regarding what you call the "sub point". We haven't interacted in the past and you're correct, no-one has dropped me a note like that. Pages in your userspace show up in your contrib history the same as any other pages. You've been having a public row with an editor I've done a lot of work with in the past - it's only natural I should be curious about your other recent edits.

Top advice:

  1. WP:TEA
  1. (when you need more tea)
  1. (other advice)
  1. Any of 1,2 or 3 is better than starting stuff at ANI aimed at goodfaith editors you're in disagreement with

Full selfglorying disclosure: I wrote 2 and 3. And, I suppose, 4. --Dweller (talk) 20:17, 18 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

I don't doubt TRM's faith, but I found his condescending sarcasm tiresome and upsetting, as was his insistence on having the last word. I'm not the only person who has encountered this. I'm asking how you came to be here because, as you can see from above, TRM showed up here complaining about a link I had put on my userpage. I asked him not to post here again. It seems that he may be wikistalking me by proxy, contacting you through some other medium and asking for assistance. Or maybe I'm wrong. Anyway. --IP98 (talk) 20:59, 18 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

Check my contrib history. I'm no-one's poxy proxy. Now, I get on well with TRM. If you'd like my help sorting out your dispute (sorry, but I'm not equipped to help unnumbered others, one at a time) I can try. You seem to be reasonable. I know for sure he is. You two must have rubbed each other up wrong. It doesn't seem irreconcilable to me. And hey, I like helping resolve disputes. --Dweller (talk) 21:25, 18 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

I did check your contrib history, and didn't see any direct evidence, and I see that you two work together on MP errors, but I had to ask. Honestly I'm willing to consider the matter closed. If he can refrain from the snide, sarcastic quips, I'll do the same, and we should get along just fine. Thanks Dweller, for stopping by, and for giving me the benefit of the doubt. --IP98 (talk) 21:50, 18 February 2013 (UTC)Reply
I did most of this lot in collaboration with TRM over 4 or 5 years. Two observations: 1) he's a good guy 2) he's a good guy. I know that may seem like the same point made twice, but it seemed such an excellent point it was worth repeating. --Dweller (talk) 22:11, 18 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

re: NCAA basketball edit

"No one" wants to see NCAA basketball posted more than me (I care much less about the posting or not posting of American Football). My "comparison" of it to The Boat Race was only on the basis of the strong feelings it has generated when nominated, not on the skill level of the sport. Arguably, and I think you may agree, NCAA basketball is more important here in the states than NBA basketball, yet only colleagues over seas can not wrap their heads around why a "college sport" should be considered even remotely important. I think the best hope of making them understand is concentrating on the cultural impact of March Madness, which is why I choose to associate it other items that have high cultural significance in one area, but not are reaching press coverage. (Of course, the claim that NCAA basketball lacks such coverage is a lie as I have proven at length several years, but people don't care - they insist the coverage is not significant because insert some technicality here. Likewise, the claim it is not a high-level competition is also an error, but also is incomprehensible to people in countries with vastly different sport systems.) --ThaddeusB (talk) 00:24, 12 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

Hi Thaddeus, sincerely, my apologies. I really though you were comparing NCAA basketball to The Boat Race in terms of it's impact on organized sport. I should learn to ignore the football noms. It's hard to have people basically say "Foot ball is the most popular/important sport in the world and if you disagree you just don't understand", then turn around and call the NCAA not important. The press covers Obamas march madness pics for petes sake! Honestly, I don't even like basketball, but I like "football elitism" even less. I was thinking though, in the US we get NBA, NFL, MLB and NHL championships posted, while they really only have their football. As usual, I overreacted. Sorry about that. --IP98 (talk) 21:02, 12 May 2013 (UTC)Reply
No offense was taken. I just wanted to clear up my POV without clogging up the thread. --ThaddeusB (talk) 23:23, 12 May 2013 (UTC)Reply
Sorry for butting in - agreed there is a lot of "football elitism" and that's part of the reason I do not support any premier team, just my common-as-muck "home team" which is tier FOUR. The UK Prime minister watched NCAA with Mr Obama on his last visit...not sure which one, but it was talked about. The leader of the opposition is a fan of American sport, the superbowl is broadcast here on BBC and Sky and is popular despite being on so late (and not having the commercials :c) and so on and so forth...it's not as if people are completely ignorant to American sports. It's a hard sell to present something so unique such as the NCAA to non-Americans. Sport is sport, much more important stuff going on in the world.--82.8.226.105 (talk) 15:25, 13 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

Butchers edit

Compliance notice from The Rambling Man - Oh the irony
The following discussion has been closed. Please do not modify it.

This edit is too much. It's a generalisation we don't need, and we have many Chinese editors who would find that offensive. I'd ask you to remove /modify that comment, and I'd also let you know if you continue to make comments like this, you will be blocked. I know you've asked me not to post to your page, but I know no other way of letting you know this is the last warning for you. The Rambling Man (talk) 20:51, 16 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

I've revised it. It's not my intention to upset the Chinese people. I've not received a first warning, let alone a last warning. I had one unfounded WP:SOCK warning, initiated by Kevin McE, who decided not to notify me [1]. So I'll take this "last warning" with a grain of salt. --IP98 (talk) 21:03, 16 May 2013 (UTC)Reply
Whatever. Accusing an entire race of editors of "butcher(y)" will get you blocked regardless of what any particular editor has said. Now delete this thread and don't do it again. The Rambling Man (talk) 21:07, 16 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

You can find more evidence at User:IP98/TRM, though apparently exposing his horrible predatory behaviour is an "attack", and the actual behaviour is fine. I'm tired of being called an "editor" (quotes by TRM), a jeering spectator, of being told "do whatever it is you do" then adding that he will make wikipedia better, suggesting that I harm it. I'm totally done with that sack of crap. I'm going to spend my time with my wife and new baby. The Rambling Man is an abusive, caustic, hostile, wikistalking, insult hurling bully. Plain and simple he is a bully. If you don't agree with him, you can be sure of a sarcastic, half baked reply meant to inflame the emotions and derail real discussion. Check out his attack on me at the WT:ITNR discussion on removing the Heineken Cup. Or don't. Honestly I don't care anymore, because after a year and a half, I'm walking away. But don't, don't you dare call it an attack. An attack is intended to harm another individual, this is evidence of the significant harm that TRM has done to others. I won't be back. --76.110.201.132 (talk) 20:08, 20 June 2013 (UTC)Reply
No, all your vitriol is stored on your user page, not the page you link to. Thanks for the clarification though.
