Protection of Wikipedia:No original research

Husond,

I'm a fellow admin, but I don't want to step on your toes regarding the recent protection of Wikipedia:No original research. The talk page of this policy shows quite clearly that there is no present consensus on a couple of disputed sentences in the policy. According to Help:Modifying and creating policy, policy articles have must document existing practices, and have the present consensus of the broader Wikipedia community. This is not like a typical edit war: here, the fact that there is an edit war means that the disputed language should be removed (for now, at least), since it does not reflect Wikipedia consensus. There have been other recent instances where people thought they had a consensus, but when the policy was exposed to the broader Wikipedia community, the consensus evaporated. See Wikipedia:Attribution. Are you opposed to my removing the disputed language in the policy? COGDEN 17:24, 21 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

sorry

I didn't mean to spam stuff. I happen to be blind, so if formatting is an issue, I cannot see if that's happening. I don't like being blamed for stuff I did not INTEND to do as if I have done it on purpose. Why do you think I joined Wikipedia in the first place. Plus, what's a template? I'm not a computer programmer.

I think something changed on my computer that is putting my signature wrong. By the way, I can now navigate to the bottom and put messages the correct way. Now I can touch my braille screen and see where things are located. At least that's cleared up.

Thanks for noticing the idiotic vandalism to Sweden and Norway (anon editing sounds great except for the small detail that all 95% of them ever do is to commit acts of vandalism). Valentinian T / C 13:52, 25 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Thank you also for your edit in Arkyan2's RFA. You can see that I have been attacked for merely asking a question. Those who attacked me forgot to see that I have fully disclosed that I edited before, did disclose my old username, but lost my password. Those who take the time to investigate will see that I asked the exact same question in 3 RFA and got one nice answer (resulting in support) and one mean answer (resulting in a neutral). This shows that I did not have a preconceived plan but that my support is a direct result of how candidates answer a question.

Why are people so mean? They chase people away from wikipedia. Many of these same people don't edit very much, they just do administrative things. Writing of the encyclopedia is our most important task, not attacking others or having a social network.Haveaquestion 17:47, 26 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

The article has gone through two semi-edit wars in the last 6 weeks, but people seem to be talking more and passions are lower. Question for you

I noticed you just nominated Navou. He has been an univolved party in an Arb-com case I am a "principal" in. I am wondering if i at some point - i want to comment there - is it okay? Do you have to be an admin or anything else in order to comment on an RFA? I've got this marked so you can respond here or refractor and move this to my talk page - whichever is easier for you. Overall i think he has done an excellent job and I don't want you to think I'm trying to "cause trouble". Juan Miguel Fangio| ►Chat  02:00, 30 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hi. Any user may comment on an RFA after it is launched (transcluded) on WP:RFA. Please await until Navou has done that. After he does, feel free to provide feedback. Regards, Húsönd 02:17, 30 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

In the ArbCom case involving me and another user - Navou suggested a year long ban for both parties on the "disputed content." I believe he has done an excellent job (certainly relative to others) in maintaining an impartial position on all fronts. My question essentially is related to "why". I don't know exactly how to phrase it but essentially the year long ban seems like an arbitrary number (why not 2-years or 6-months or 6-days) - maybe a "what was the basis for your recommendation?" There are some extensions of this - and again - i think he is one of the few admins involved who has maintained a strong level of impartiality. Also - should i point him to this here or just wait until i figure out how to "put the question in place". Juan Miguel Fangio| ►Chat  03:45, 30 August 2007 (UTC)Reply
Good deal. Juan Miguel Fangio| ►Chat  02:17, 30 August 2007 (UTC)Reply
Navou isn't an admin. I don't know if I'm sure what exactly is it you're requesting feedback about, I can't relate the participation in that request for arbitration with this request for adminship. Regards, Húsönd 03:51, 30 August 2007 (UTC)Reply
If you pose your question on the workshop talk page, I'll try to answer that the best I can. Not an admin yet though. Cheers! Navou banter 03:54, 30 August 2007 (UTC)Reply
I refractored the conversation from my talk page here so that this is kept in one place. In any event, I believe i have only one serious "issue" with his edits. I want to participate in the RFA so that I can express my overall pleasure with Navou's behavior and that i think he will be one of the better admins (yes - i am saying this even though he has suggested that i'm reprimanded for an ongoing situation). I'm concerned about this appearing as wikilobbying - but because of the balance, i'm hoping that it is appropriate. To perhaps restate: I would like to address his decision to recommend an extended block (or is it ban???) - and if he felt the length was appropriately determined in retrospect. How do i do this properly on the RFA. Juan Miguel Fangio| ►Chat  04:07, 30 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

I've moved Image:VRSA.JPG, an image you uploaded, to the Wikimedia Commons under the name Image:Vila Real de Santo Antonio.JPG. The original image may now be deleted at any time. Oh, that wasn't a template. I know better than that. :-) In fact, I think I better create a template for that; typing the message every time I move an image is getting annoying. Uploading images to the Commons instead of here is important, as, if they are at Commons, they can be used by other Wikimedia projects. Happy editing! --Boricuæddie 19:53, 4 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Personally I had mixed feelings about the place. We stayed at the Barceló Hotel, which was quite good but I found the place far too unnatural, kind of a copy-and-paste resort. I liked Ayamonte better in that sense, but at the end of the day I just wanted to spend a few days doing absolutely nothing at the beach :) Weather is finally getting a little better in England, the summer has been dreadful. Looking forward to your pictures but remember to take it easy, you are on holiday not on a wiki mission! --Asteriontalk 19:33, 4 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

ETA concerns

I have some converns about the state of the ETA article. Within the past 2 or 3 days there have been almost 50 edits and there seems to be an issue about the use of the word "terrorist". The only reason I am asking you to take a look at all of this is because I feel that I might not be understanding the issue of calling the organization a terrorist organization as defined by the EU and the US instead of calling it a revolutionary organization which is the phrase being used by one of the editors, in my mind a revolutionary organization would need some sort of revolution which in the case of ETA does not seem to fit. Let me know what you think.--Joebengo 03:34, 4 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Fair use disputed for Image:Silence 4.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Silence 4.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our Criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 02:27, 6 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

You have very very good English. Are you from one of the Portuguese-speaking places of Africa or Asia? That's awesome that you can speak both European and Brazilian. That's my dream. How are Brazil and Portugal similar, and how are they different? What's the climate like? How about the food? Did people speak English to you, or did you speak Portuguese to them? I envy you; I've never been abroad.

about me

Well, you may be surprised, but I was not actually born in the States. I came from South Korea when I was 2 years old. I was adopted, which means my parents--the ones I live with now--are not my birth parents. My adoptive parents are American, so I only know English, at least for the moment.

So you're part English and part Portuguese, yes? Wow! I can't wait to fulfill my dream and go to all these countries. I'll update my user page.

Your Kind Offer

Hi Husond - Hope you're enjoying your break! No rush on this so please continue to drink in the atmosphere of your holiday. Per Your kind offer some while back others have indicated that it might be a good idea now to run again and User:Jmlk17 has offerd a co nomination. Another editor has also asked about nominating me (via e-mail) and I advised I wanted to wait till mid September to let 12 weeks go between RFA's. I think he may be interested in a co-nom as well. I was thinking of running the week after next. If you would be so kind as to take a review of my recent edits I'd appreciate feedback as to whether your offer to nom still stands. As I say no rush, enjoy ..... ! Pedro |  Chat  11:17, 7 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

User Husond, if we're allowed to put sound files (somehow--I'm bad with computers) into talk pages, you should record samples for me of how European Portuguese and Brazilian Portuguese differ so much. By the way, if you've ever heard Jamaican English, it's very different from American English, but it's STILL a dialect of English.

Jamaican English

Well, Jamaican English is the only Caribbean dialect I've ever heard. So I wouldn't know how to compare it to other Caribbean English dialects.

By the way, in the samples of the Portuguese dialects in the Portuguese language article, what are they talking about? I heard people laughing in one sample, so was it a joke being exchanged between two friends? In another sample, it sounds like the people are arguing! (Oh no!) I don't like arguing, and it sounds like they are mad at each other. Remember, I'm only a beginner in Portuguese. Did you see my QUESTION FOR PORTUGUESE SPEAKERS section on my talk page? I'm trying to start a discussion there by users who are from the Portuguese-speaking world. Check it out. It's a separate section.

When I view the image page in Internet Explorer it shows correctly with a transparent background. The only part that is not displaying correctly is when the image displays on the Silves article. No matter what browser I view the image in it shows with a white background. Anyways, hope that I was able to help you out :).
