Help me! edit

Hrhenderson (talk) 01:04, 7 November 2019 (UTC)Reply

The "Publish" button is really the "Save" button. The powers-that-be were fielding complaints from people who did not realize that once they have saved their edits on Wikipedia's servers, the work is public and viewable by anyone who knows where to look. So they imposed a name change on the button.
When using the article wizard, you'll be asked to "submit" your draft for review. Only after it has been reviewed and accepted does it become an "article" on the main encyclopedia.
So feel free to use the "Publish" button! — jmcgnh(talk) (contribs) 01:20, 7 November 2019 (UTC)Reply

Help me! edit

Hi friends, I am writing an article for an organization that I work for (paid contributor). I have disclosed this on my talk page, but I am uncertain if this is sufficient disclosure. Do I put it on the draft article page as well somewhere before I submit it for review? Thanks! Hrhenderson (talk) 19:41, 12 November 2019 (UTC)Reply

That template is supposed to go on the (draft) article's talk page; I'm going to put it there (with a link to your edit here). There is also Template:Paid which you can put on your user page (User:Hrhenderson). Thanks for making sure you comply with the disclosure requirements, and happy editing. Draft:Innovative Genomics Institute edit

I took a very quick look at your draft and have some comments:

  1. There should be no external links (to websites other than Wikipedia) in the body of the article. Having a single external link to the Institute's website in a dedicated "External links" section at the end of the draft (after even the "References" section) is appropriate; all others should be removed outright. See WP:External links for the relevant policies.
  2. Wikipedia content should be a summary of what reliable third-party sources have reported about the subject. If the source for a statement such as "IGI also periodically gives information and comments on proposed regulation of genome editing technology to governing bodies including the FDA" is one such comment by IGI, then firstly I rather doubt it confirms the statement (does that one comment really say anything about the frequency with which IGI comments?), and secondly it gives the impression that no one else cares about that aspect of IGI's activities - then Wikipedia shouldn't cover it either. Things would be quite different if there were, for example, a newspaper article describing how IGI's comment influenced the FDA regulation.
  3. Sources that do not mention IGI at all or are trivial passing mentions that provide no information about it (for example because they were written years before IGI was founded, or because the only mentions of IGI are in the authors' affiliations) are useless for an article about IGI.

I hope this helps. Huon (talk) 20:46, 12 November 2019 (UTC)Reply
