Welcome to Wikipedia. I hope you like the place and hope to stay. Concerning your questions, edits go live immediately once you click the "Save changes" button. As you are a new editor who removed maintenance tags, your edit was marked as possible vandalism, and I reverted it. Please remember not to remove maintenance tags, until you fully understand how Wikipedia works, and become more skilled in this environment. Of that, I mean wait until you have been here 3-4 months and have a few hundred uncontested edits. Remember not to just write your stuff on the bottom of a talk page, click the "New Section" button on the top middle to make a new section, and sign your posts with 4 of these ~ right next to each other.
