Spencer Photo

Hello HlJ, A half hour ago, I tried to load a Spencer carbine picture of a period 1865 Model, it was impossible to place it. Now I find your picture with a new one. Question: is it a original one or an italian copy? If it's a copy, may I change it? Most pictures I placed (Henry, Winchies, Colts especially on the German DE Wiki) are originals.Yourshmaag (talk) 15:29, 17 March 2009 (UTC)

Hi. I was reacting to a red link for the missing photo, so I found one in Wikimedia Commons. I know nothing about the origin of that photo. If you have a better version, go ahead and change it, but please test that it works before saving the article. Hal Jespersen (talk) 21:29, 17 March 2009 (UTC)

Hans, it is listed in that source (Adler) and two of the Wilson books, personally the short bbls are my favorite models to collect and I almost always say "Sheriff's Model", but have seen the "Banker's" and "Storekeeper's" in the literature. I'll work on getting the Buntline back in, you know with as much controversy on that one, it might merit its own article! Have a great New Year! Colt Frontier Six-Shooter

Regards the Talk:Colt Frontier Six-Shooter and the related article, I verified the moved material in the Colt Single Action Army revolver article. I then deleted the "Colt Frontier Six-Shooter" text and created a redirect to the "Colt Single Action Army" article. Thanks for taking a look at my suggestion and moving the text. Remarks: US Army Trials for the SAA ended with the „Ordnance Notes No. V“ , June 27th 1873, by Captain John R. Edie, National Armory Springfield. (Source: Documents published page 395 in "A History of the Colt Revolver" 1940 by Charles T. Haven & Frank A. Belden ) So Trials 1872 / 1873 will be correct.

Prototypes of the SAA were (source: Colt Single Action Army Study, New Discoveries 2003 by Kenneth Moore ISBN 1-931464-07-3):

44 / NM 1872 < marking on frame (finished early 1872)

S / 1 (Shipped June 1872);

S / 2 (first test revolver cal .44 Russian, shipped November 1872 to Springfield Armory).

Production: 1 to end, (first one shipped March 1. 1873)

The Vetterli rifle

Hi, I noticed that you were the one who introduced the description of the Vetterli rifle on the bolt action page, where you describe it as the first military repeating bolt action rifle. Due to this description, I was wondering if you knew who was the first to produce a repeating bolt action rifle, as the Vetterli rifle is the earliest bolt action repeating rifle I know for certain existed. However, I have heard of a muzzle-loading bolt action repeating rifle called a smith that was apparently produced sometime around the American civil war, though I haven't been able to find anything concrete on this weapon.
