How does X work? edit

How do I add a citation in numerical order? I added two citations for July 2015 blooms to the page on Titan Arum blooms, "List of publicised titan arum blooms in cultivation". I don't know how to incorporate the citations into the order that exists on the page. Please help! Thanks! Hilda S Mitrani (talk) 22:51, 2 August 2015 (UTC)Reply

Hi, Hilda S Mitrani, glad to help. The order of the reference citations is determined by a citation's position on the page, generally the lower numbers are toward the TOP and the higher numbers toward the BOTTOM of an article or list. The exception is when a citation is used more than once, so its sequential number is determined by its first usage on a page, then it keeps the same number no matter where else it is used. This may not always seem the best way, but it usually conforms to reference work standards. Also, the small "up-arrow" links next to the citation numbers in the Notes or References section make it easier to be taken to where any particular citation is in the text. Hope this helps! – Paine  23:49, 2 August 2015 (UTC)Reply
Hi again – I see now that the standard description I gave you above was inadequate. I went ahead and fixed the refs on the list page. All you needed in order to follow the list page's (non-standard) format was the URL, the part that begins with "http". To keep your refs in sequence, just enclose the entire URL in single brackets, such as [http://en.wikipedia.org/], which will appear as a numbered link: [1]. Hope this is more of a help to you. – Paine  13:43, 6 August 2015 (UTC)Reply

Thank you, Paine. I appreciate the help and guidance a lot! Cheers! Hilda S Mitrani (talk) 06:29, 10 August 2015 (UTC)Reply

Your recent edits edit

  Hello and welcome to Wikipedia. When you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion (but never when editing articles), please be sure to sign your posts. There are two ways to do this. Either:

  1. Add four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment; or
  2. With the cursor positioned at the end of your comment, click on the signature button (  or  ) located above the edit window.

This will automatically insert a signature with your username or IP address and the time you posted the comment. This information is necessary to allow other editors to easily see who wrote what and when.

I am not a paid contributor and therefore have nothing to disclose. If I wanted to hide my relationships, why would I use my own name? You are falsely accusing and bullying me! The three people for whom I have created pages are highly-regarded leaders in their field. Two have been approved and one is a work-in-progress. Stop accusing me without facts.Hilda in South Florida (talk) 15:55, 23 September 2017 (UTC)Reply
So you have never worked for or with any of the people you write about in any capacity on anything? They have never been clients of yours? Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 18:37, 23 September 2017 (UTC)Reply
That is correct. Carol Marbin Miller was my neighbor for many years. Never my client. And given the investigative nature of her work, it should be clear that I have never been paid to do work on her behalf. As for the healthcare clients, I have worked with all of the major healthcare providers in the South Florida market. I am not paid to work on Wikipedia for any of them.

Speedy deletion nomination of Steven D. Wexner edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Steven D. Wexner, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, group, product, service, person, or point of view and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. Managing a conflict of interest edit

  Hello, Hilda S Mitrani. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places, or things you have written about in the article Carol Marbin Miller, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a COI may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic, and it is important when editing Wikipedia articles that such connections be completely transparent. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. In particular, we ask that you please:

  • avoid editing or creating articles related to you and your family, friends, school, company, club, or organization, as well as any competing companies' projects or products;
  • instead, you are encouraged to propose changes on the Talk pages of affected article(s) (see the {{request edit}} template);
  • when discussing affected articles, disclose your COI (see WP:DISCLOSE);
  • avoid linking to the Wikipedia article or to the website of your organization in other articles (see WP:SPAM);
  • exercise great caution so that you do not violate Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).

Please take a few moments to read and review Wikipedia's policies regarding conflicts of interest, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, sourcing and autobiographies.

Also please note that editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. Widefox; talk 13:42, 28 September 2017 (UTC)Reply

[Widefox] Thank you for posting the complete policies. Since it appears that I misunderstood the policies, which I thought had more to do with professional, compensated items, I apologize. FYI - I had previously disclosed that Carol Marbin Miller was my neighbor. She is doing important work to safeguard children. Her page is factual and I have just edited to remove promotional copy. (I'll edit again later.) As previously stated, I have no business relationship with Carol, and have nothing to gain by writing or editing a page on her career. She didn't ask me to create the page nor has she contributed any content to it. All material was found via search engines.Hilda in South Florida (talk) 14:59, 28 September 2017 (UTC)Reply
