Greetings

Just wanted to say 'nice to see you'. It's been a while since we've been in the same discussion. Always a pleasure. Cheers for now, Daicaregos (talk) 08:21, 8 August 2012 (UTC)

Speedy deletion declined: Eggs and Marrowbone

Hello HighKing. I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of Eggs and Marrowbone, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: Not an article about a recording. Thank you. — Malik Shabazz Talk/Stalk 19:27, 12 August 2012 (UTC)

RoI map

Regarding this... really? The article's called Republic of Ireland, for heaven's sake. Absolutely no need for those reverts. I didn't even pick up on what you meant when you said it was wrong, had forgotten about this weird thing you have about (gasp) "Republic of Ireland". Poor editing, IMO. And aren't you topic-banned from adding or removing "British Isles" from articles? Jon C. 13:50, 12 August 2012 (UTC)

"Weird" thing? That's insulting. And No, I'm not topic banned from anything. I've opened a discussion on the Talk page. I've 3 main points - the first and most important is that we don't need more links. The article has more than enough already - in fact we could probably cut them even further - the "Key Development Forecasts", "UCB Libraries" and the "Open Directory" could all go. --HighKing (talk) 19:06, 12 August 2012 (UTC)
Maybe "weird" was the wrong choice of words, but there was absolutely nothing wrong with that external link, your own personal preferences/prejudices aside. Republic of Ireland is clearly used in this instance to distinguish the state from Northern Ireland, and, as has been pointed out, the article itself refers simply to "Ireland". The link itself is good, but whether we need any more is another discussion. Jon C. 13:47, 13 August 2012 (UTC)
I suppose this is where different points of view comes into it. For me, there's no need to use "Republic of Ireland" in a map where it shows the republic as one colour, and could easily use the UK as another. As I've said already, it makes it look as if Northern Ireland isn't part of the UK. But the main point in relation to the map, that I keep coming back to again and again, is that "Republic of Ireland" is the "legal" and "proper" term under UK law (so no probs with the map in the UK and with a British POV), but we shouldn't propagate this terminology in WP. Especially when it simply isn't needed, and only adds confusion and adds to the number of people who are taught to believe that "Republic of Ireland" is the name of the state. I suggest, rather than calling this "weird" or trying to associate this viewpoint with being somehow abnormal, you instead take on board why propagating this viewpoint is incorrect. --HighKing (talk) 16:13, 13 August 2012 (UTC)
